And one that can do so, well, wirelessly? If that sounds like a pipe dream, well, it isn't. Energous' WattUp solution promises to do exactly that. No longer would you have to plug in your laptop or charge up your smartwatch when you're in the house. Seems like an innovation winner to us.

That's because the service from Dish is essentially a cord-cutter's dream, with a slew of channel offerings from the likes of ESPN, CNN and Cartoon Network for only $20 a month -- no cable or satellite subscription required. It was a shoo-in for this year's Best Home Theater award.

AmpStrip is a health wearable that stays out of the way: a Band-Aid style strip that's waterproof and comes with disposable adhesive strips to attach right to your skin. Despite the slim profile, the company has crammed in an accelerometer, thermometer and heart rate sensor, which, in tandem, can monitor your heart rate, movement and activity. T-shirts are, apparently, optional.

But beating all of that to win our Best of CES award is a tiny pair of earbuds from Bragi called "The Dash." The wireless headphones tuck in a surprising amount of tech -- activity tracker, heart rate monitor, media player and more -- into a really small package. It's no wonder that it raised more than $3 million in its Kickstarter campaign last year... and went home with more than one of our crystal trophies.

And it did it again in 2015. However, there was one particular highlight: a 13-inch laptop with top-end specs, but somehow weighing in at 1.7 pounds. This is Lenovo (and NEC's) slender LaVie HZ550. For reference, that's 43 percent lighter than the latest MacBook Air -- and in person you'd think it was a dummy laptop shell. Despite that, the laptop still packs fifth-generation Intel Core processors: It's got muscle too. Was it the best PC we saw at CES? We think so, yes.

Why? Give me one good reason why. Sorry, unacceptable. Fortunately, we're recapping all the greatest products found in Las Vegas this week, starting with our overall winner: Sling TV. The potential to revolutionize TV-watching habits (and a launch later this month) are just a few of the reasons why it deserved to win. Expect to see Sling TV a few more times as we circle back on all the individual winners from last week.

A week after rounding up what we thought would be worthy of winning the Best of CES awards, we finally announced the winners to the world yesterday. To go along with such an honor, we also held an awards ceremony on our gleaming CES stage where we handed out beautiful crystal trophies to the winners. Sling TV managed to snag two individual awards from the official Best Of CES 2015 plaudits, but it also came out with the coveted Best of the Best award. Why? Because it could well revolutionize TV habits. As Senior Editor Richard Lawler put it, Sling TV is the first non-traditional alternative that looks like it could really work -- and it's coming this month. We talked to Sling TV CEO Roger Lynch right after the win. Photos: Will Lipman

The people have spoken, and Razer's Forge TV is the People's Choice winner for Best of CES 2015! It was a close call, however, as it won with only 16.13 percent of the vote -- the AirDog drone came in second at 14.62 percent and the Misfit Bolt clocked in at third with 11.96 percent. Only a few thousand votes separated first, second and third place! Still, Razer's Forge TV won fair and square -- not only did the Android TV microconsole win our Best Gaming Product award, but it also scored your votes too. Congratulations, Razer!

A cocktail of trepidation and adrenaline, we love exploring the country's biggest tech convention and hunting down the best on show. But before even get to that, let's talk submissions. Whether you're a company (from tech giant to scrappy start-up) with something amazing to show us, or a reader simply curious about the rules, you'll find all the info you need at our newly-christened awards hub. We've honed and tweaked the categories (and even created some new ones) this time -- let's take a closer look at them.

We know. It's only September, but it's never too early to start dreaming of that greatest of all gadget gatherings, the International CES. As always, the Engadget editorial team will descend upon the Las Vegas Convention Center this January to bring you all the action as the Official Blog and Online News Source of the show. And, just like last year, we're also choosing the Best of CES awards! As we comb the floor of the world's largest consumer tech trade show, we'll be looking for truly stand-out products worthy of becoming 2015's Best of CES -- but that doesn't mean we're waiting until we touch down in the desert to begin our search. We're accepting nominations starting November 1st, when we'll dish out all the info you need to know to put your device in the running. [Image Credit: Samaruddin Stewart, AOL]

CES may almost be over, but there's still plenty to talk about at the Las Vegas Convention Center. We learned why Microsoft's presence at CES may be subtler these days, and that GoPro's obsession for extreme sports has found a home on Xbox Live. We also saw Fleksy bang out emails on a smartwatch and had our faces digitally rearranged by a Kinect-equipped makeover machine -- but that's nothing compared to what we've hidden past the jump. Read on for a look behind the show, technology and awards that define CES 2014, day 4.

  • Making Engadget's Best of CES trophies (video)

As we began putting together our awards proposal for the CEA, we knew we had to blow things out. It was important to make every aspect of the awards uniquely Engadget, with processes that embodied the forward-thinking technology that has come to define our coverage and the annual International CES event. The awards ceremony itself is naturally a big part of that process -- as are the trophies we'll bestow on each of the winners. But how does one make a trophy with a technological bent? Flashing lights? WiFi? Animatronics? The answer was simple: 3D printing. The space virtually exploded at last year's CES, with big reveals from a number of the technology's top players, and it would no doubt only continue to be a major presence for many CESes to come (little did we know then that 2014 would see its own devoted 3D-printing area, due to the influx of companies presenting at the show).

In case you missed the news earlier this year, Engadget is heading up the 2014 Best of CES Awards! We always look forward to kicking off the year at the country's biggest tech convention, and we're extra stoked to be taking on the role of curating the show's best innovations. In the months leading up to CES 2014, we'll be giving you additional insight into our voting process -- and giving you a chance to cast your own vote for best product -- but first and foremost let's talk submissions. Whether you're an interested company or simply a reader curious about our criteria, you'll find all the info you need below the break.

  • Engadget is proud to be the home of the 2014 Best of CES Awards

When it comes to tech events, there's nothing quite like the International CES. It's a challenge, it's a marathon and it can be a little overwhelming -- but we wouldn't miss it for the world. CES has evolved dramatically since its inception in 1967 as a small, NYC offshoot of the Chicago Music Show and at Engadget we're proud to have been the Official Blog and Online News Source for the past five years running. This year we're taking that relationship a step further. A big step further. We're thrilled to announce that Engadget is the official home of the 2014 Best of CES Awards! In January, the Engadget editorial team will be scouring the International CES show floor to find the best, most exciting products making their debut there. We do this every year, but in 2014 we'll formalize the procedure. Finalists will be selected for each of 15 categories and, through an entirely editorially controlled process, individual products will be awarded the honor of Best of CES. Those lucky standouts will receive custom, 3D printed trophies courtesy of our friends at 3D Systems. Awards will be printed live at the International CES, so you can see them emerging from nothing as the show goes on. We'll be detailing our judging process in the coming months and providing more information on how companies can submit their products for our consideration ahead of the show in January. For now, know that we're very excited to be the new home of the 2014 Best of CES Awards. Here's what Gary Shapiro, President and CEO of CEA, had to say: Engadget and CEA share a passion for technology and for showcasing innovations to a global audience. Their dedicated editorial team canvases the CES show floor to cover the best products across all key categories of CES. Their quality coverage is sought after by CES exhibitors and the independent editorial judgment they will bring to these awards will help highlight the top products at the 2014 CES. We can't wait to see you in Vegas.

CES is drawing to a close, and the gadgets released here will define the market for the year. Intel is betting the farm on its Ultrabook concept as its hardware partners continued to push out the first real wave of laptops designed to take on the MacBook Air (who thought we'd be saying that four years ago?). Whatever your feelings on these devices, given Santa Clara's billion-dollar advertising push, you won't be able to ignore them this year. So, let's take a look at five of the best products that rolled off the keynotes into the hands of our editors.

Maybe, just maybe, you've noticed that Engadget relocated this past week to the City of Sin for CES 2011. Oh yes, we set up camp in a double-wide trailer, liveblogged our hearts out, combed the show floor, and worked our rear ends off to bring you more gadget news than you ever thought possible. It's true, we've written over 720 posts (40 or so about tablets alone!), shot more than 180 videos, and brought you over 350 photo galleries in the last seven days. That's a ton of technology news and products, but naturally, only certain ones have been able to rise above the rest and stick out in our scary collective hive-mind. With that said, we've complied our annual best of list for you, so hit the break and feast your eyes on what are bound to be some of the best products of the new year.
