Nintendo had a last-minute rethink on the European release of Brain Age: Concentration Training, delaying the game just days ahead of its April 12 arrival on the continent. As per a statement given to Nintendo Life, the delay of Dr Kawashima's Devilish Brain Training: Can You Stay Focused?, as it's leanly titled in Europe, is a strategic one, says Nintendo."Nintendo has made the decision to push back the launch date of Dr Kawashima's Devilish Brain Training: Can You Stay Focused? for Nintendo 3DS to optimize the best possible launch timing of this title within the European market," the company told Nintendo Life. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we hope to announce a new launch date soon."Brain Age: Concentration Training isn't the only recent Nintendo game to endure a curious last-minute delay in Europe. Scribblenauts Unlimited, originally due in the region on Wii U and 3DS on February 8, is still without a release window; we contacted Nintendo recently for an update but only received the same statement given out in February. The only update since then came courtesy of 5th Cell CEO Jeremiah Slaczka last month, who posted on NeoGAF to say, "It's been delayed due to some localization standards. It'll be out when that's fixed. There are people working in it. Those standards have nothing to do with inappropriate words or adding 'u's to words to make them British (that'd be insane if that was the reason). It's out on Steam right now in the EU, so if it was that problem, then those words would be in the Steam version."

Nintendo's Brain Age: Concentration Training starts by describing my life in detail. Information is everywhere, says the polygonal, disembodied head of Dr. Ryuta Kawashima. He really says it, by the way, as this Brain Age features copious voice over. Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yes, Dr. Kawashima is describing my life to me.When trying to focus on work, I'm compelled to check my email, he says. That's true enough. When I find myself in a social situation without access to my phone, I often get fidgety and restless. Double true. This condition, says Dr. Kawashima, is known as Information Addiction. I'm not sure what happens after that, because I stopped focusing on Concentration Training in order to write this introduction. This might not go very well.%Gallery-176604%

The only way to find out which of the two (or how much of each) is to get the demo, available on 3DS eShop today. Also on 3DS today is a surprise Virtual Console release, the Contra sequel Super C., and an eShop release of the launch game Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars.Wii U already had a couple of off-schedule additions this week. If you missed them, The Cave went up Tuesday along with its release on other platforms, and Balloon Fight is on sale now for a pittance.

The US localization of Brain Age: Concentration Training for 3DS is now due out on February 10, 2013, pushed back from the original release date of December 3, 2012.Brain Age: Concentration Training has players perform mental gymnastics designed to improve "working memory." Some tasks have players answer problems on a delay, forcing them to wait and see the next problem before writing the solution to the previous one. It's like a backflip for your amygdala.

Nintendo announced an American localization of the latest Brain Training game, known as Onitore, on Twitter this afternoon – complete with release date. "Dr. Kawashima is back to train your brain! Brain Age: Concentration Training launches for Nintendo #3DS on 12/3," the publisher said. This game purportedly helps to increase the capacity of your "working memory," by subjecting you to mental gymnastics like answering math problems on a delay – as in you have to wait until you see the next problem to write the solution to the last one.
