  • Breach and Clear: Deadline brings tactical thinking to zombie slaughter

A zombie apocalypse is no excuse for sloppy tactics. That's the thinking behind Breach and Clear: Deadline, an undead twist on the top-down strategy genre and offshoot of the iOS/Android game Breach and Clear. In Deadline, ransacked interiors and mangled streets are home to various forms of infected; parasitic worms capable of "hyper-evolution" have invaded the soft, squishy bodies of the former humans that once lived here. Okay, so they're not technically undead zombies, but the upside is that Mighty Rabbit is using the hyper-evolving worms as justification for a new campaign, a wide variety of enemies and a fresh gameplay experience.

Mighty Rabbit Studios announced a follow-up to its tactical military action game Breach and Clear today. Going by the name Breach and Clear: Deadline, the game will arrive on Steam's Early Access service for PC, Mac and Linux this fall for $19.99 (£12.99). Unlike the first game, which began on mobile devices before breaching Steam's walls via Greenlight, publisher Gun Media did not list mobile platforms among Deadline's destinations. Deadline adds to Breach and Clear's warfaring gameplay by introducing real-time strategy elements to the series. Players will boss their squad around with new Command Mode tools, giving orders on-the-fly during battle. The game is set in the "urban expanse of Harbor City," in which players must find the source of a parasitic infection that's causing the city's inhabitants to turn into monsters. They'll also level up their team along the way and complete side quests to earn "rare ammo, weapons and gear." [Image: Gun Media]

Humble Bundle PC and Android 10 offers seven games for your mobile and desktop pleasure, three for any price you choose and four for more than the average. The three games up for grabs are Symphony, Draw a Stickman: Epic and Galcon Legends (plus the Galcon Fusion DLC). For roughly $5 – that's the current average, at least – add on Skulls of the Shogun, Metal Slug 3, Fieldrunners 2 and Breach & Clear. All of these games bought separately would run you $99 – plus, the Humble Bundle comes with most of these games' soundtracks. Plus plus, your purchase supports the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Child's Play Charity. All of the games come with Steam access by spending $1 or more. This is the Mac, Linux and Android debut for Skulls of the Shogun, a game that we enjoyed immensely on Xbox 360. [Image: 17-BIT]

Having proven itself on iOS, Gun Media's tactical strategy hit Breach & Clear is now coming to the PC, Mac and Linux platforms via Steam. If that title is totally new to you, you can think of Breach & Clear as a turn-based shooter focused almost entirely on close quarters combat. Players lead a team of hardened spec ops agents who travel the world snuffing out threats and dealing with dangerous situations. The new computer versions of the game feature a revamped interface, new weapons, new missions and the addition of the German KSK as a playable faction. Breach & Clear is slated for release on March 21, at which point it will feature a $15 price tag. To celebrate the launch, however, developer Gun Media plans to reduce the game's price to $10 "for a limited time." [Image: Gun Media]

Mighty Rabbit Studios' mobile tactical military strategy game Breach and Clear is coming to Steam, the developer has announced, and is currently up for voting on Steam Greenlight. The PC port of Breach and Clear will include everything in the mobile release on top of a new mission, squads, weapons and spec ops teams, redesigned UI elements and a permadeath mode. Micro-transactions have also been stripped out for PC. There's currently no timetable for launch on Steam, though understandably the quicker Breach and Clear gets its votes on Steam Greenlight, the quicker it is likely to launch on Steam.

  • A touch of military-grade tactics in Breach & Clear

This is Portabliss, a column about downloadable games that can be played on the go. Taking cues from the realism and mission planning in the original Rainbow Six games, Breach & Clear offers iOS players a turn-based, tactical strategy game with mountains of potential. Sadly, the Gun and Mighty Rabbit Studios project never reaches that potential, because much of the game is still in development. Initially, Breach & Clear captured my heart. Missions require strict planning and can be slow and plodding, which is directly up my extraordinarily boring alley. A customizable four-man squad, drawn from real world military organizations in the USA and Canada, enters a mission and can approach from a number of different entry points. In Breach & Clear's lone mode, Terrorist Hunt, the goal is to wipe out each room. It's entertaining at first, but after multiple plays of each of the game's fifteen missions at varying difficulties, Breach & Clear gets stale.%Gallery-194781%

  • Robert Bowling producing Breach and Clear, coming to iOS

Robert Bowling is the former "creative strategist" at Infinity Ward, the developer studio that original created the enormously popular Call of Duty series over on the major consoles. A little while ago, he left that company (after some turmoil between the founders and publisher Activision) to start up his own endeavor, called Robotoki, which is working on a game set to arrive on mobile platforms like iOS called Human Element. But apparently that's not all Bowling's up to: He's also working with a publisher named Gun on an upcoming iOS game called Breach and Clear. We don't know a lot about this one yet, but it does look very impressive: It's a tactical, Special Operations shooter that's set to be free to play and feature a lot of customization and even real world gear. The game is set up a series of scenarios, where you'll be able to pick a loadout and team, and then go in and tactically take an opposing team of terrorists down. Sounds fun. Bowling is apparently producing this one, though it doesn't seem to be associated with his Robotoki studio. At any rate, we shouldn't have long to wait for this one: Breach and Clear is due out sometime later on this spring. As soon as we get to see some gameplay (or an exact release date), we'll let you know.
