  • Join Risen 3's Demon Hunters faction, kill creepy beasts

When your world's gods have bailed, how do you combat mysterious, unchecked enemies stemming from the darkness? You side with the faction called Demon Hunters, earn a bunch of skills and gear from quests and then trample everything in sight with your newly-earned power. Risen 3: Titan Lords' adventurers will have three allegiances to choose from, though Deep Silver's recent press release and accompanying batch of screens only detail the Demon Hunters. The Demon Hunters are recovering from a bit of a slump ... okay, slump probably understates a few decades' worth of time. The point is, they're getting back together, arming themselves to restore their once-glorious citadel and reestablish fear in their enemies, which we're assuming would be the demons. Risen 3 won't reach the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC until August 12, but you can pass some time viewing its landscapes in the gallery below, complete with twisted creatures that look like some prime prey for the Demon Hunters. • Volition looking to recruit 100 homies, expand crib

Tired of reading about companies slashing office workforce and laying off employees? Well, the coin has flipped and given us a bit of good news on the other foot. (We may have combined too many expressions there.) Saints Row 4 developer Volition is looking to expand their office floor space as well as hire 100 new employees. Time to dust off that resume! The News-Gazette reports that the city officials representing Champaign, Illinois - where Volition is headquartered - are proposing financial incentives regarding the company expansion, including up to $150,000 in funding for space acquisition and renovation. City Council will consider the request at its study session on Tuesday, July 22. We're not sure if potential hires will be forced to wear their Saints Row pride on their sleeve, but it couldn't hurt, right? Or is this one of those "don't wear the band's t-shirt to the band's concert" situations? [Image: Deep Silver]

  • Dead Island 2 collector's edition contents up for public vote

Deep Silver is polling Dead Island series fans to determine the contents of the Dead Island 2 Collector's Edition prior to the sequel's multiplatform launch next year. Available options range from standard fare (art books, character figurines, digital content) to the unexpected (back scratchers, beer coolers, alarm clocks, character-themed maneki-neko) to the outright impossible ("a real zombie"). Dead Island: Riptide's controversial torso statue is not an option, unsurprisingly. Voting ends July 14, so make sure you vote for the "real zombie" option before then. Assuming their bio-technology is able to keep up with production, Deep Silver could make a real-world zombie apocalypse happen, and you can help. [Image: Deep Silver]

Dead Island is spawning a new game with mystery in mind, thanks to a partnership between Deep Silver and Swedish studio Fatshark. Escape Dead Island, which is both the game's title and obvious directive, is a third-person game that favors sneaking over wild extermination of the undead, and it tells a different kind of story to match the slower pace.

  • Deep Silver unleashes Goat Simulator in NA stores this July

Goat Simulator has been available as a Steam download since April 1, but this is a physical game about physical things getting physically wrecked by a very physical goat; doesn't it deserve a physical release? Deep Silver thinks so, which is why it's acquired North American distribution rights from developer Coffee Stain Studios. You'll be able to pick up a boxed copy of the game at participating retail stores starting in mid-July. Thankfully, while goats are known to eat just about anything, this even-toed ungulate will go easy on your cash. The boxed copy - like its Steam counterpart - will cost $9.99. Of course, the goat-in-a-game-shop news might sound familiar to those living across the pond; it's been available in UK stores since May. [Image: Coffee Stain Studios]

Dead Island: Epidemic is a twisted take on the MOBA genre, allowing players to use WASD and a clicky trigger finger to move and shoot. As the narrator puts it: "Unlike other titles in the genre, you'll have direct control over your character – no last-hitting, click-to-move nonsense here." [Image: Deep Silver]

  • Report: Crytek UK in trouble, staff leaving

More than 30 employees have left Crytek UK since work began on Homefront: The Revolution in 2011, Eurogamer reports. The high turnover is due to staff being paid late numerous times, and the list of those who've left includes key art, design and programming employees, the site says. Crytek UK Managing Director Karl Hilton is leaving his position for a different role in the company, he told Kotaku. This week, German magazine GameStar reported that Crytek was nearing bankruptcy. Crytek denied the claim: "Regardless of what some media are reporting, mostly based on a recent article published by GameStar, the information in those reports and in the GameStar article itself are rumors which Crytek deny. We continue to focus on the development and publishing of our upcoming titles Homefront: The Revolution, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, Arena of Fate, and Warface, as well as providing ongoing support for our CryEngine and its licensees." Homefront: The Revolution publisher Deep Silver has declined to comment on the situation. However, claims of trouble aren't contained to Crytek UK, Kotaku reports: Crytek's sequel to Xbox One launch game Ryse has been canceled, along with a slew of other games, including original prototypes. • Metro Redux makes a return trip underground in August

Metro Redux brings remastered, post-apocalyptic Moscow to North America on August 26, and Europe on August 29. Described as a "true director's cut" of Metro 2033 and its sequel Metro: Last Light, the 2-in-1 package will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The boxed compilation is priced $50, and both games will be available individually to download at $25 a pop. Linux and SteamOS versions are due to release later this year. Amongst all the gameplay tweaks and additions, Metro Redux is headlined by a reworking of Metro 2033 in the 4A Engine iteration used for Last Light. Dev 4A Games has given Last Light a visual touch-up too, while all the game's Season Pass content is included in Redux. • Dead Island 2 turns its frown upside down

It's not the "world's first motion-captured cat," nor the lovely, gory graphics that should attract players to Dead Island 2. Instead, it's that developer Yager is proudly crafting a game that lets players live out their gory dreams of surviving amidst the zombie apocalypse with the core goal of using hordes of the undead as so many blood-filled stress balls. Those hoping for a drastic departure from the original Dead Island gameplay formula are likely to be disappointed by Dead Island 2. The focus remains on dispatching zombies with as much brutality as possible, using makeshift weaponry, vehicles and the occasional environmental aid. The game's tone, however, is moving in an entirely new direction. Contrast the above trailer with the much-lauded Dead Island debut cinematic which saw a family being (literally) ripped apart to a particularly maudlin tune, and you'll understand what Yager is going for here. This is a game that revels in its destruction of the undead, and wants you to have as much fun as possible at the end of the world. [Image: Deep Silver]

Not too long after Crytek UK began working on a sequel to Homefront, the developer started to get worried. Studio closures at THQ, rumors of the publisher's financial strain and whispers of the entire organization's dissolution overtook any news surrounding the company and its projects, including a follow-up to the commercially viable but critically lukewarm shooter by Kaos Studios. By the end of January 2013, THQ was dead, its properties scattered throughout the industry. But Crytek's management team belayed its developer's fears. Crytek emerged from the fire sale that ensued after THQ's demise half-a-million dollars lighter in the wallet, but owners of the Homefront franchise. Now, alongside co-publishing partner Deep Silver, Crytek finally feels at ease and sees the opportunity to create the Homefront game it always wanted to make.

Homefront: The Revolution is the Crytek-developed, Deep Silver-published follow-up to THQ's 2011 game, according to a now removed listing. Official PlayStation Magazine reports Swedish site FZ listed the game as a first-person shooter due in 2015. Crytek acquired the Homefront property in 2011 following THQ going defunct. At the time, General Manager of Games Nick Button-Brown noted the company's purchase would allow Crytek UK (formerly Team Radical) to finish its work on Homefront 2. "The worst case scenario for us was that this situation meant that all that work just ended up being thrown into the bin," Button-Brown said back in 2013, "so we wanted to buy the IP to make sure the team can finish off the game they wish to make." Update: Deep Silver confirmed Homefront: The Revolution is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2015. Check out the details and announcement trailer here. Sacred 3 also introduces Weapon Spirits, a new upgrade system that allows stat boosts and abilities to stack between weapon types. Deep Silver's in-progress MOBA Dead Island: Epidemic is now available via Steam Early Access, giving players an early look at a closed beta version ahead of its public launch. Dead Island: Epidemic is an online cooperative action game in which teams of players employ crafted weapons and character skills to fend off zombie hordes. Early Access players will get exclusive weapons and upgrades not available in the final release, due later this year. While the final version of Epidemic will be free-to-play, access to the closed beta requires purchasing either the Patient Zero Pack ($16.99) or the Deadicated Pack ($39.99). Players can also opt for the Contagion Pack ($44.99), which includes all content from the Patient Zero and Dedicated packs, along with three additional copies of the game to share with friends. Killer Is Dead: Nightmare Edition won't lend PC gamers its dose of quirky Grasshopper Manufacture action until May 23, but fans can check its system requirements right now and plan accordingly. With minimum requirements calling for Windows Vista 64-bit, a 2.0GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, a GPU that can handle Shader Model 3.0 and 13 GB of space, Nightmare Edition shouldn't be too taxing for your gaming rig. Recommended specs jump up a bit, calling for an Intel Core i5-2400 Processor, 8 GB of RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450. The $20 Nightmare Edition adds a difficulty mode, includes the Smooth Operator DLC and offers a theater to re-view cutscenes. Aside from its uncomfortable Gigolo side missions, we'd recommend giving Killer Is Dead's bizarre brand of combo-driven action a shot. [Image: Deep Silver]

An Amazon listing for a DLC-bundled re-release of Volition's Saints Row 4 has surfaced in Germany, gaming marketplace analyst @lifelower reports. A North American release for the package has not been confirmed. According to Amazon's product page, the Game of the Century version of Saints Row 4 will bundle last year's game with all subsequently released DLC and Season Pass content, including the Enter The Dominatrix and How the Saints Save Christmas mission packs. Also included are a variety of ability upgrades, vehicles, and weapon packs, such as the Stone Age DLC and the GameStop contest-winning Polarizer. Other recent lifelower discoveries include a Complete Edition of Metro: Last Light and a Dead Island Double Pack, neither of which have been officially announced. [Update: A Deep Silver representative confirmed the upcoming Game of the Century release with Shacknews, but notes that it's only scheduled for release in Europe at this time. Metro Redux for next-gen consoles has been confirmed by publisher Deep Silver, following a leak this morning on an Italian forum reported by AllGamesBeta, but the publisher did make a few addendums to the admission. "What you saw leaked was taken from an old, internal planning presentation, containing some nuggets of truth but a lot of hypothetical ideas and place holder material," publisher Deep Silver said in a statement. "And we think the reality is a lot more exciting than the out-dated material that got leaked shows, and we're itching to share it with you. Just not yet." Deep Silver plans to share details about the 4A Games developed title "this side of E3." [Image: AllGamesBeta]
