  • Live-action version of iconic Dead Island trailer is even sadder

Grab some tissues, because the tear-jerking, award-winning trailer from Dead Island has been remade in live-action. That's right: Instead of looking into the soulless, dead eyes of a computer-animated horde of zombies, you can look into the soulless, dead eyes of real-life zombies and the family they devour. Aren't video games fun? The trailer comes to the Internet courtesy of Machinima, and save for the very end, is a shot-by-shot recreation of the infamous trailer. We assume the reason for the ending remaining a CG animation is because there is, in fact, no Royal Palms Resort on the island of Banoi, and building an entire hotel for roughly 10 seconds of footage is a pretty tall budget order. Or maybe the creators just didn't feel like tempting fate and starting the zombie apocalypse. While this is a fan film, it nonetheless gives us an idea of what that Dead Island movie from Lionsgate might look like, should it ever be finished.

Saints Row 4 will bring its bravado to Japan on January 23, 2014. Famitsu reports the Saints Row 4 Ultra Super Ultimate Deluxe Edition will include downloadable content previously released internationally, but we're following up with the game's publisher in the region to confirm specifics. "We won't even be finished with DLC releases in January, so it wont include all SR4 DLC," a representative for publisher Deep Silver tells Joystiq. "That edition is for Japan only since it is the Japanese release of the game." So don't go expecting a Saints Row 4 Ultra Super Ultimate Deluxe Edition with all DLC included hitting in North American or Europe. Well, at least not in January.

The standalone Saints Row 3 expansion, "Enter the Dominatrix," meant to generate any type of money to save embattled publisher THQ but ultimately found itself canceled, now lives on in Saints Row 4. THQ may be a memory, but Deep Silver saw fit to put the $6.99 DLC into the wild. It comes included with the Saints Row 4 Season Pass.

Deep Silver will publish the next iteration of developer Eutechnyx's licensed racing game in early 2014, NASCAR 14. Coming to PS3 and Xbox 360, the game will feature drop-in, drop-out online multiplayer races for up to 16 players as well as online league play with challenges, rankings and "dynamic statistics" support. Players can also play through the game's career mode, acquiring sponsorship and building their cars up to win races. NASCAR 14 is the first entry in the series published by Deep Silver, as Activision handled the distribution of the series since the 2011 release of NASCAR: The Game 2011, which followed EA's cancellation of the series in September 2009. Eutechnyx announced plans to self-publish the series in June, prior to Deep Silver picking up the game's publishing rights. Deep Silver launched a Facebook app to allow fans to vote on NASCAR 14's cover driver. The winning driver will be announced in early December.

Attention passengers: We are arriving at "Chronicles Pack," the last stop on the Metro: Last Light downloadable content line. The fourth and final piece of DLC includes three solo missions filling in side stories that run parallel to the game's main tale. The pack also includes the "multi barrelled bicycle shotgun," a fan-created weapon that 4A Games was impressed by enough to toss in the game. The Chronicles Pack is priced at the reasonable round-trip ticket price of $4.99. It's also part of the Metro season pass, which now includes all four pieces of DLC immediately available for $15.

The "Enter the Dominatrix" DLC hits Saints Row 4 with a giant dildo bat on October 23 in the UK. Enter the Dominatrix is the first installment of the Saints Row 4 Season Pass, but it will also be available as a standalone purchase for GBP 6. The DLC includes an alternate Zin invasion storyline with the Saints trapped in a virtual world run by the AI program known as the Dominatrix – from there it's a battle to survive against sex workers and gimps. Enter the Dominatrix includes new weapons, enemies, allies and missions, and features behind-the-scenes commentary. Developer Volition will livestream the DLC on October 23 from 1PM - 4PM CT on Twitch. Enter the Dominatrix was originally planned as an expansion to Saints Row: The Third, and was expected to hit 45 days after Saints Row 4 launched. Turns out October 23 is 61 days after the UK launch on August 23. So close. Update: Enter the Dominatrix hits the US on Oct. 22 with a standalone price of $7. That's 63 days between full-game launch and DLC – if only Deep Silver had waited six more days.

As far as Saints Row 4 is concerned, next week's big-name gaming arrival is 'GATV'. As revealed on the PlayStation Blogcast, the city-based sandbox game receives GATV and 'Wild West' as DLC packs. Going by this GameFAQs leak, the GATV pack features Johnny Gat-styled clothes, hair, and a knifegun(!), but it's unclear what the Wild West pack comprises (beyond something western-y). The podcast only confirmed the packs for next week's PSN update, but we expect they'll come to Xbox 360 and PC versions around the same time.

There's an expedited and frugal route to the Oval Office in Saints Row 4, a game in which you foil an alien invasion as only the President of the United States could, and it's cheaper now through GameStop. Both the Xbox 360 and PS4 standard versions of Saints Row 4 are down to $50 at GameStop now (matching the PC version's price), either online or in store. If you want to snag a used copy, that'll be $45. Dubstep gun not included. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Saints Row 4 when the game launched last month. It's an experience our review lauded for its "inventive, hilariously unexpected examples of truly inspired game design."

The Steam version of Metro: Last Light has been updated for Macs today. The game supports Steamplay, so if you've purchased the Windows version already you can access the Mac version for free. The Mac port of Metro: Last Light will make its way to the App store soon, publisher Deep Silver says. All DLC and the Season Pass will be available to Mac users, while a Linux port is due sometime later this year. Metro: Last Light is set a year after the events of 4A Games' Metro 2033, based on the novel of the same name. Metro: Last Light follows humanity's struggle to survive while inhabiting the underground subway systems of Russia following an apocalyptic nuclear war. It's a game our review said "truly excels at pacing and direction, even while it dabbles with verbose characters and an ambiguous supernatural element."

Saints Row 4 gets two wildly different (and just plain wild) DLC packs this week, with the Presidential and Grass Roots packs running $3 each. Both bundles hit Steam and PSN today, and Xbox Live Marketplace tomorrow. The Presidential Pack includes masks of four influential US presidents – Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Barack Obama and George W. Bush – along with customizable outfits. This bundle was available as a pre-order bonus at Gamestop and EB games. The Grass Roots pack takes the saints to the country with farm-inspired costumes, a gun that shoots plungers and some sort of explosive that sounds like a juicy fart. Hooray.

Open-world power trip Saints Row 4 had a good launch week, selling over a million units through retail and digital distribution. Publisher Deep Silver also noted the latest installment's PC version had nearly triple the sales of Saints Row 3 during the same period after its retail release. "The development team at Volition is second-to-none as a driving creative force in the entertainment industry and we are very proud to have them as part of the Deep Silver family," said Deep Silver CEO Klemens Kundratitz. Our review called Saints Row 4 a "modern classic befitting the insane legacy" of the disorderly Saints.

Freefall Racers looks like most kart games, except that it uses Kinect's motion controls and features skydiving squirrels instead of go-karts. The nutty XBLA game is due sometime next month, according to this video from publisher Deep Silver. This isn't the first we've heard of Freefall Racers. It popped up on our radar back in May, correctly rumored as being developed by Kinect specialist studio Smoking Gun Interactive. You may recognize the Vancouver dev from its work on Kinect games like Home Run Stars, Mars Rover Landing, and Doodle Jump. The video doesn't go into too much detail, but it does reveal some of the game's power-ups including the zapper, smoke-screen, and shield. It also spills the beans on a local two-player mode, featuring some competitive split-screen plummeting. We're waiting for a release date to drop, but a price floats into view: $9.99/£7.99/€9.99. Update: Deep Silver chips in with a release date: September 6.

4A Games is developing Metro: Last Light for Mac, which will be released on September 10 on the App Store and Steam. A Linux version is scheduled for launch later this year. Steam owners who own the PC version will automatically gain access to the oppressive shooter on other platforms upon launch. Metro: Last Light's downloadable content and season pass is also scheduled for the added platforms. "Development was handled in-house by 4A games, and we are very happy with the results. We hope that Mac and Linux gamers will appreciate our efforts to create the best possible version for their machines," said Oles Shishkovstov, Chief Technical Officer at 4A Games. Deep Silver CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz told us during Gamescom that the publisher will continue to support the series, which has struggled to find a mass audience, since one of its key elements is "suffocating despair."
