When pre-ordering Far Cry 3 at GameStop, players get four bonus missions and two multiplayer humiliations that feature Hurk, a quest-giver with a penchant for strapping explosives to monkeys. This trailer introduces him to players, as narrated by Randall from the viral "Honey Badger" video (really).

Far Cry 3 keeps finding new, exotic jaws to wrap around the poor protagonist's arm. Last time it was a tiger, this time it's a crocodile. Either way, don't wander all willy-nilly near the water.

Just like the publisher's Far Cry 3 booth at PAX East 2012 offered attendees a chance to get permanently inked, PAX Prime 2012 attendees can get their perfectly coiffed doos turned into a mohawk to promote Ubisoft's upcoming shooter. The idea is that the newly mohawked community will look just like "Vaas," FC3's masochistic main antagonist. He totally has a mohawk! The first 60 participants that accept the complimentary buzz get a free copy of Far Cry 3 when it launches on December 4 in the US.%Gallery-164097%

As our own Ludwig Kietzmann once wrote, Ubisoft's Far Cry 2 is at its best when your best laid plans go catastrophically wrong – when craftily assassinating a single target goes haywire and becomes a blood-soaked, bullet-ridden assault on an entire army. While I was only able to experience a tiny slice of the Far Cry 3 single-player campaign, I can happily report, at the very least, that things can definitely still go wrong.%Gallery-162448%

After debuting during Sony's E3 2012 media briefing, Ubisoft has released a video walkthrough of the four-player co-op mode found in Far Cry 3. Taking place six months before the separate single-player campaign, co-op revolves around four characters on the hunt for a man who stole a pile of loot from the group. Let's just hope the ragtag group of merry mercenaries can get off the island before the real mayhem starts. Far Cry 3 is launching for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on December 4 in North America. %Gallery-156960%

There are plenty of reasons to visit Germany, but for gamers looking to sample some stuff still in development, Ubisoft is making a strong claim for Primary Reason. The publisher is throwing everything at Gamescom this year, an event that saw 275,000 attendees in 2011.Assassin's Creed 3 and its PS Vita spinoff, Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, will both be on hand at Ubisoft's booth. They'll be joined by Far Cry 3, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Online and Shootmania. Ubisoft is also going to truck out all of its Wii U games: Zombi U, Rayman Legends, Rabbids Land, Sports Connection and Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2013. And if you decide to skip that last game, don't sweat it – you'll get all the exercise you need running around the Koelnmesse.

Far Cry 3 is now set to launch on November 29 in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and on December 4 in North America, Ubisoft announced today. The last release date we had for Far Cry 3 was set in September; as producer Dan Hay puts it, the extra time will be spent making the game "the best," rather than what we assume was "the almost best.""We're taking more time to create the best possible gameplay experience," Hay says. "Far Cry 3 is a huge offering and we want every element of this insane, action-packed adventure to be of the highest possible quality for the players."

Ubisoft took the stage at the Sony press conference this afternoon to show off a new feature of Far Cry 3: Four-player co-op. Rather than take place in the game's singleplayer world, the co-op feature is an additional mode, offering a mission-based campaign, where players have to team up to accomplish certain objective-based tasks.Ubisoft also showed off a map editor for the game, and mentioned that Far Cry 3 would also have extra content exclusively on Sony's console. The game is due out later on this year.

Far Cry 3 certainly isn't kidding around with the imagery in this trailer; there's an age gate on this one for a reason. Between the drugs, the gore, and the nudity, it's clear that Ubisoft's upcoming shooter isn't going to play it very safe.

It's official: Europe is getting the coolest version of Far Cry 3, replete with the amazing bobblehead seen in the trailer above. Is that star of stage and screen Michael Mando with a goatee and hula skirt? Sure is!Beyond the facsimile of Mando, buyers of the so-called "Insane Edition" get "exclusive survival kit packaging" (a cloth book), an "essential island survival guide," and "access to all unlockable content" (which includes the in-game content that pre-orders get in the US). Considering the "Insane Edition" is just £15 more than the standard "Lost Expeditions Edition" at £49.85 (at least in the UK – we're waiting on EU pricing), we're thinking it's worth the dough. Perhaps you haven't looked hard enough at that bobblehead? Really explore that space.

The stories crafted during multiplayer sessions of Far Cry 3 will sound similar to the tales told from other competitive shooters:The blast from a nearby grenade hits me like a shockwave. From behind the smoke a group of four rebels emerge and open fire on an ammo depot I'm set on defending. Two of the invaders are felled in a hail of shots from my submachine gun. Two other foes scatter and leave me standing alone. The area is mine, and mine alone.I hole up, waiting for a flanking attack -- but nothing happens. Seconds later I hear a crack in the air. A blip registers on my radar. Then another crack and I fall to my feet, dead. What seems fairly standard turns into something new and interesting. Like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare before it, Far Cry 3 reveals lethal enemy positions via a kill cam. But unlike other titles, Far Cry 3's system may be the best that I've ever seen at detailing critical strategic information to downed players.%Gallery-130908%

Being veterans of the game industry's convention season, we're harder to shock when it comes to bizarre stuff seen on show floors. We've seen food trucks, and crazy shoes, and full-on jets, but we've yet to see a live tattoo application, not to mention one based on a video game.Enter: Far Cry 3.Ubisoft hired a local tattoo artist to pre-screen attendees for the tattoo you see being applied just above. Rather than a Far Cry 3 logo, tattooees (not tattooines) are getting a tribal tattoo ripped from the game. Maybe a game logo should have been the way to go -- to help you remember when you explain this art's origin by the time you're 80.%Gallery-152569%

  • Far Cry 3's multiplayer looks as fun as it is pretty

Far Cry 3's multiplayer mode will offer a few specific perks activated by the aggregation of Team Support Points, the "currency" of multiplayer, VG24/7 writes in a hands-on preview. TSP can buff allies or hinder enemies through features such as psyche gas, which makes the opposing fighters see every person as a demon silhouette, with no reference for team assignment. Battle Cry offers a buff to team members and gives the activator a chunk of TSP.Each round has an optional map tutorial at its start and an interactive cutscene to end, wherein the top player from the winning team will have the option to beat the losing team to death or to free them. Domination mode seems to be a lesson in classic capture-point format, while Firestorm offers a more creative multiplayer approach, with the offensive team attempting to light two ignition points in the enemy's camp that will be doused with gasoline when the opposing team calls in air support -- unless the enemy secures its radio first.

  • Far Cry 3 trailer goes on a nasty trip, reveals pre-order bonuses

As we reported last month, drugs will play a role Far Cry 3. The latest trailer gives us a closer look as protagonist Jason Brody takes pills and eat mushrooms, which have a very significant effect on how he perceives the environment. The rest of the trailer is ... well it's bloody and definitely not appropriate for younger viewers. The end of the trailer also reveals a GameStop pre-order bonus, namely the "Monkey Business Pack," which includes "four missions hosted by Hurk and his bomb-carrying monkeys" and "two bonus ways to humiliate your friends." If poop-throwing is involved, you can count us out.Interestingly, a UK version of the trailer features different pre-order content. Specifically, UK pre-orders will receive the "Lost Expeditions Edition" of Far Cry 3, which includes two bonus missions and an in-game flare gun. Looking over the North American retailers listed on Ubisoft's own Far Cry 3 website, it appears that only Best Buy is offering the Lost Expeditions Edition. We've contacted Ubisoft to see if the content will also be offered by other retailers.

  • Far Cry 3 gameplay video lasts five minutes (Bonus: It's in German!)

German site VideoGamesZone.de has five minutes of gameplay footage featuring Ubisoft's upcoming Far Cry 3. The chatter and sound effects are in English (yes, the sound effects, too!), but we had to do some translation work on our two German voiceover hosts for some extra details. One of them went to Montreal to play the game (on an 80 inch screen). He mentions that the game runs on an improved version of the Far Cry 2 engine (dubbed "Dunia"). The version shown in the video is for Xbox 360, though the PC version is said to have nicer visuals, as you'd expect.Improvements to the game from the previous sequel include more intelligent AI, a fast travel system and the removal of constantly respawning enemies.Later in the video we meet Dr. Earnhardt, who sends protagonist Jason Brody on a quest for special mushrooms. The mushrooms are poisonous and what follows is a tripped out, explosive fantasy island sequence where you can almost taste the purples. Head on over to VideoGamesZone.de to watch the whole thing.

Are you ready to wub wub wub with Jason Brody as he murders dozens (hundreds?) of island natives after ending up in the wrong place at the wrong time during the events of Far Cry 3? Oh, not ready yet? Well that's good, actually, as the game won't be available until September 6 in Europe (September 4 for North Americans) according to a new, dubstep-heavy trailer for the game leaked out of Germany via All Games Beta. The game had previously been pegged with an extremely vague "2012" launch window, but the trailer -- which popped up before a planned Ubisoft quarterly financial call later today -- pins September 6 to the game and, unsurprisingly, suggests we get pre-ordering.In other news, we're feeling way, way less sorry for Far Cry 3 protagonist Jason Brody after watching this latest trailer. It's never a good idea to go exploring unmapped islands, not to mention ones where you almost immediately find automatic weapons just sitting around. Use your brain, Brody!Update: Ubisoft had the leaked trailer removed from YouTube, but we snagged a pic of the release date splash screen before it got removed. Sorry, y'all! We've reached out to Ubi for more info on the trailer and the game's worldwide release dates.Update 2: The US version of the trailer is now live, once more confirming the release date of September 4 in North America and September 6 in Europe.

  • Fresh Far Cry 3 details may cause dizziness, temporary insanity

    02.15.2012

Far Cry 3 will emphasize tactical freedom, but isn't skimping on scripted moments, details from Edge magazine (as spotted by Gaming Everything) reveal. The first glimpse lists the strategic improvisation possibilities, such as tying C4 to a jeep and driving it into an enemy camp, or hang-gliding over entire areas. The mission Edge played saw the protagonist, Jason Brody, hallucinating while trying to take out enemies. He was still able to stab two guards then throw the knife at another -- something we doubt we could do while (almost) perfectly lucid. The main antagonist, Vaas, is "a sociopath, and very nearly a psychopath," Edge says, and the Ubisoft development team wants the game to be "emotional and raw" while still remaining a shooter first. There will be no weapon degredation, Gaming Everything adds. Check out the entire run-down of Jason Brody's descent into mushroom madness right here.
