'Gravity Rush 2' expands a portable adventure to PS4 scale
The original Gravity Rush was a key launch title for the PlayStation Vita — a (rare) original adventure that wasn't a portable iteration of something that already existed. But when it came to the sequel, Sony's Japan Studios wanted to bring it to home consoles and Gravity Rush 2 was announced alongside a PS4 remaster of the first game. I got to play the latest demo of the sequel here at the Tokyo Game Show, and it looks and feels like a bigger game in nearly every way -- exactly what GR2 needs if it wants to stand out on Sony's main console against stiff competition.
'Gravity Rush 2' hits PlayStation 4 this December
Gravity Rush 2 is coming to the US and Europe this year. The sequel to the physics-defying hit will launch on December 2nd in the US and UK, and November 30th in Europe. The original Gravity Rush launched on PlayStation Vita in 2012, and was recently remastered for PlayStation 4. The new title features the same core mechanic -- the ability to manipulate gravity to traverse stages and defeat enemies -- with a few twists. You'll now be able to pick between different "gravity styles," which alter the physics to make the pull of gravity weaker and stronger.
PS Vita gem 'Gravity Rush' is getting a PS4 port and sequel
Gravity Rush leapt onto the PlayStation Vita in 2012, when the console was in desperate need of some "triple-A" titles to compliment its blossoming indie library. It was a beautiful game with a few novel gameplay mechanics -- to traverse the world and land on different objects, you were forced to jump in the air and pull gravity down in new, unusual directions. The handheld title was received favourably but, like Tearaway, never reached a large audience on the Vita -- so Sony is giving it the Unfolded treatment with a port-remaster-remake-thing on the PlayStation 4. It'll be coming out on December 10th in Japan -- no word yet on an international release -- followed by an all-new sequel called Gravity Daze 2 (the original was also called Gravity Daze in Japan) next year. For fans of Kat and her occasionally headache-inducing adventures, this is an unexpected treat from Sony.
