Moons haven't gotten so much love as they have by video games in the past month since Buzz Aldrin landed on one in 1969. Link pulls one down to smash up dragons in Hyrule Warriors, and the good Guardians playing Destiny have spent an inordinate amount of time blowing up Wizards from around the lunar neighborhood. Everywhere you look, moons! In anticipation of even more moon action, Joystiq is bringing you an early look at Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!, a game that places tiny, chatty robots on the moon and gives them many, many guns. On Joystiq.com/Twitch at 6:00PM 6:30PM EST, 2K Games and Gearbox will be hanging out with Joystiq's own Ludwig Kietzmann (@LudwigK) to check out the ins and outs of this side story to the only shooter RPG with a bartender named Moxxi. Come by and ask questions of both the team and Luddy in the chat. We regularly broadcast on Joystiq.com/Twitch every Tuesday and Thursday at 4:00PM EST, but if you want to catch specials like today's show, make sure to follow on us on Twitch. [Images: 2K Games]

*Clink* *Clink* *Clink* Joystiq Streams is playing Hyrule Warriors live at 4:00PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch. CAN YOU DIG IT?! Yes, it's going to be a non-stop cavalcade of Link, Impa, and Midna action. We'll slice up some Moblins and than a bunch of Gorons, just to put the Wii U through its paces. Anthony John Agnello (@ajohnagnello) is playing, Earnest Cavalli (@ecavalli) will discuss his review, and Richard Mitchell (@TheRichardM) will hang in the chat wondering why Nintendo didn't include Tingle in this game. That's Joystiq.com/Twitch at 4:00PM EST, just how we do it every Tuesday and Thursday. Enjoy the streams? Follow us on Twitch to catch us whenever we go live. [Images: Nintendo]

    09.17.2014

The Rangers versus Kings Stanley Cup final this past June was one of the most watched Stanley Cup finals in a generation. NBC reported it had about 5 million viewers total. To put that in perspective, the Super Bowl snagged 111.5 million viewers in February. Who cares, though! So the NHL doesn't have the same kind of following as the NFL. Big surprise. That doesn't make the league or the sport any less fascinating. What we need is a guide to walk us through those confusing frozen halls. Lucky for us, Joystiq has a secret weapon: Xav de Matos! Starting at 4:00PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch, Xav (@Xav) is going to teach Anthony John Agnello (@ajohnagnello), a complete NHL neophyte, how to play NHL 15 on PlayStation 4. Don't know what icing is? We're going to find out. How weird is it going to get? Pretty weird. Joystiq Streams broadcasts on Joystiq.com/Twitch every Tuesday and Thursday at 4PM EST, but we regularly broadcast other days of the week so make sure to follow us on Twitch to know when we go live. All these space wizards and Dinklages and space balls telling us about our Destiny as conqueror of the darkness have exhausted us. Now we thirst for simpler pleasures. No more moon wizards! Just regular wizards, who are mightily hungry and may or may not need food in the immediate future. The Joystiq crew is going old school today, diving into an early build of the newly resurrected Gauntlet! Joystiq.com/Twitch will be broadcast a piping hot plate of Gauntlet one week before its release, starting today at 4:00PM EST. Jess Conditt (@JessConditt), Alexander Sliwinski (@Sliwinski), and Anthony John Agnello (@ajohnagnello) will dive into the game blind with absolutely no clue how to succeed! Come and talk to us as we wonder what the hell we're supposed to do with all these arrows. That's Joystiq.com/Twitch at 4:00PM EST, just like we broadcast every Tuesday and Thursday. Destiny makes bold claims right in the title. Bungie named its game after inevitability! While only time will tell if the studio's bold experiment in blending its signature shooter fundamentals with a decade of MMO evolution has produced a classic, Destiny is certainly unavoidable in the gaming world this week. After pouring hours into the game since the servers went live on Monday morning, the Joystiq team is ready to reflect on the game's first days. How does Destiny feel on last gen consoles? What's it like to review a game like this? Are there any hiccups in service? We'll cover it all. The staff will host a Google Hangout starting at 2:30PM EST. Want to chat with the crew? Follow along on Google Plus, right here in this post, or at Joystiq.com/Twitch. Following the roundtable, Joystiq's Jess Conditt will be streaming the Xbox One version of Destiny. Also, if you'd like to get your hands on an absolutely free copy of Destiny, we're giving some of those away right now! [Images: Activision/Bungie]

    09.10.2014

We've poured hours into the game. We took a long hard look at the different classes. Now we're taking the gloves off, spiking up our hair and face-painting it up in the character customization to get ready for vicious PvP action in Destiny's Crucible! Gasp as Alexander Sliwinski punches people directly in the face! Groan as Earnest Cavalli wields his shotgun like a surgeon! Gulp as Richard Mitchell survives a two-on-one showdown by the skin of his Ghost! Giggle as Xav de Matos demands to know where the heck his back up is and gets shot repeatedly in the process! Starting at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch, this brave crew of Guardians will dive into Crucible as our week of Destiny streams continues. Come hang out before the show to catch us goofing around or take us on in the game. Plus, if you want a free copy of Destiny, swing by for details on how to get one. Joystiq Streams is live at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch every Tuesday and Thursday, but we're also live at unusual hours enjoying some weird games so make sure to follow us on Twitch to know when we go live. Oh and about the free copies of Destiny, dig this. [Images: Activision/Bungie]

So you've woken up thousands of years in the future and the Earth is a wasteland, covered with wizards, purple balls and crab tanks. Some giant benevolent space ball is trying to help the last of humanity out, but it's not going great. A little floating robot wants you to help but, boy, is he pushy! Slow down, take a deep breath, and let's consider your options before you fly off into the realm of fire teams and flinging yourself around the moon. Today at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch, we're doing a methodical walkthrough of the first moments in Bungie's Destiny, taking a look at each character class in turn, the different customization options available at the outset, and an exploration of the Tower itself, showing you where to pick up quest info and where to buy or unlock new kit. That's Joystiq.com/Twitch at 4PM EST, just like we do round here every Tuesday and Thursday. Also, did you know we're giving away free copies of Destiny? Want a free copy of Destiny for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, or Xbox 360? Joystiq's just giving 'em away right here. [Images: Activision/Bungie]

Team Joystiq tackles Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor today at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch, giving you an early look at Monolith's dark fantasy adventure game ahead of its launch later this month. Blending open-world action with stealth mechanics, Shadow of Mordor explores the darker side of The Lord of the Rings universe with an original story starring the Wraith-ranger Talion. Publisher Warner Bros. bumped up Shadow of Mordor's release date earlier this year, giving it a leg up on the holiday season competition. Joystiq Streams hosts regular broadcasts every Tuesday and Thursday at 4PM EST at Joystiq.com/Twitch, but we often stream whenever the mood strikes us, so make sure to follow us on Twitch to catch us when we go live! • Sims 4 Real World: Recognizing your Joystiq in The Sims 4 [UPDATE: Relive the stream!]

    09.02.2014

From the Joystiq House confessional: SIMS 4 JESS CONDITT: Alexander is a mostly good roommate. He's really clean and he cooks well, but I wish he'd stop stealing my clothes. I mean, yesterday I noticed my favorite sequined club dress was missing, and then I find it under his bed. He said it was "a laundry accident," but that dress is definitely dry-clean only! Sequins, remember? What happens when a video game website moves into a single imaginary house in The Sims 4, stops being polite, and starts getting real? If The Sims 4 Real World: Joystiq is anything to go by, it gets rough pretty fast. Everything's going a-okay until Jess Conditt (@JessConditt) sets herself on fire grilling up dinner and Susan Arendt (@SusanArendt) and Alexander Sliwinski (@Sliwinski) have to use up not one but two extinguishers. Refilling those things isn't free! Oh, it is? What if they're used for pranking people? That question and more will be answered when Alexander and Anthony John Agnello go on a full tour of The Sims 4 live at 4PM EST right here on Joystiq.com. Want to hang out and chat with us? Watch at Joystiq.com/Twitch or over on our Twitch channel. Joystiq Streams broadcasts live every Tuesday and Thursday on Joystiq.com/Twitch, but if you want to catch all our surprise streams and get in on free game giveaways, make sure to follow us on Twitch. Meanwhile, if you want to hang with the Joystiq crew in The Sims 4, it's super easy! Play as Susan Arendt, Jess Conditt and Alexander by searching "Joystiq" in the new gallery option. 08.28.2014

Psst. Hey. Sick of all those tame interviews and careful hand-holding through the growing world of virtual reality? Want to take a trip down the unbeaten paths where the weird stuff is happening in Oculus Rift? Want to see a grown man fight with his inner ear when a computer helmet convinces his brain he's actually in outer space? Who wouldn't want that? That's why we're taking a dip into the wild world of streaming Oculus DK2 demos. This is unknown territory, y'all. Buckle up. Starting at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch, we're going to be streaming a plethora of bizarre Oculus Rift demonstrations, including a tour of the ocean, a deeply upsetting spacewalk, and even a trip to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's Kokiri Forest. How does one actually stream Oculus Rift demos? It ain't easy. Richard Mitchell will be struggling with his rig to make the whole thing work while Anthony John Agnello feeds him your encouragement from the chat. That's 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch! Joystiq Streams broadcasts every Tuesday and Thursday at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch, but to catch all those other streams we do make sure to follow us on Twitch.

Been above ground so long I hardly knew the place/Gee it's good to be back home/Leave it till tomorrow to unpack my gas mask/Honey disconnect the phone/I'm back in the U.S.S.R metro/You don't know how lucky you are boy/Back in the U.S.S.R. metro There is nothing quite so unsettling as the Xbox controller left bumper button when you're playing Metro Redux. Sneaking over irradiated pools of stagnant water in 2033 Moscow, the left bumper is what you press to wipe grime off your gas mask. One careful wipe might help you see a fallen scavenger ripe with spare ammunition. Another might have your vision obscured just long enough for a giant, mutated pig bear to run up and eat you. Joystiq Streams is diving into Metro Redux, the newly revamped collection of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light from 4A Games, at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch. 08.21.2014

There's a lush place where video games and football meet, and it's not just in EA and the NFL's island industry known as Madden NFL. In the heart of August, when the temperature and light start to drop, these pastimes begin their full bloom seasons. Today, we play Madden NFL 15 not just because we are Steelers fans and Packers fans and Eagles fans. We play Madden NFL 15 not just because we thrill in the coming rush of new games from Destiny to Alien Isolation. Today we play Madden to open the season. Today we open the floodgates to fall! Whew. That got romantic. Just make sure you read all of that in Don Cheadle's voice. When you're properly psyched, get ready for a tour of Madden NFL 15 on PlayStation 4 at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch. Expert Mike Suszek will show you the ins-and-outs of this year's much scrutinized entry and then join Anthony John Agnello for some spirited scrimmages. Joystiq Streams broadcasts every Tuesday and Thursday at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch, but we broadcast at random times as well so make sure to follow us on Twitch to know when we go live. • Joystiq Streams: Mega Man + Metroid + Castle Pixel = Rex Rocket [UPDATE: Relive the stream!]

    by

    Anthony John Agnello
    08.19.2014

Some people call Rex Rocket a space cowboy. Some people call him the gangster of love. Know this, though: When he travels across a ravaged universe like an interstellar Jason Statham, transporting scientists away from vicious robots, nobody ever calls him Maurice. Not even when he speaks of the pompitous of love. Rex Rocket, a slick slice of platforming righteousness made by the good people at Castle Pixel, gleefully taps the vein of classic video games. Wrought in the style of Mega Man and Metroid, but embracing the bright, black-lined coloring of 16-bit era games, it pits its space faring hero against deadly spikes, automatons, and other threats to scientists in the future. Joystiq Streams cannot resist such challenges. We're streaming a solid hour of Rex Rocket starting at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch. Creators Tyler Bud and Rob Maher will be on hand to talk about the game and hang out in the chat. Anthony John Agnello will be trying to survive the robot onslaught while Alexander Sliwinski asks your questions on air. Joystiq Streams broadcasts live on Tuesdays and Thursday at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch, but other streams go live all the time, so make sure to follow us on Twitch. [Images: Castle Pixel]

    08.14.2014

We are hearty rangers! We do not fear cultists worshipping the atomic bomb, mutated freaks, or roving bands of slavering summer cannibals, baking in the ceaseless southwestern sun of America. We gather our party, our band of freaks and survivors, and we walk right out into the dry heat of apocalyptic Arizona with our heads held high and our guns slung low. Then we take slow turns blowing stuff up. That's how it's done in Wasteland 2. Starting at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch, Joystiq will play a complete version of Wasteland 2, InXile Entertainment's 27-years-in-the-making game. Studio founder and Wasteland mastermind Brian Fargo will join us for a veteran ranger's view of the action. Swing by if you want to ask questions or get a look at the game weeks before it releases in full. Joystiq Streams broadcasts every Tuesday and Thursday at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch, but we regularly get freaky on our channel so make sure to follow us on Twitch to know when we go live. 08.13.2014

Have you ever had that nightmare where the guy that made Zone of the Enders, the guy that made Hellboy, and that guy who played the younger brother in Boondock Saints end up in a fog-covered town that physically manifests your every trauma and insecurity? Plagued me for years, that one. Never got a wink of sleep. Let's just turn on the old PlayStation 4 here for some relaxing good timesAGGGGGHHHHHHH! The mysterious P.T. shown during Sony's Gamescom '14 press conference, available right now on PlayStation 4, does indeed appear to be a teaser for Silent Hills, a new game in Konami's horror series. It also appears to be the brain child of Hideo Kojima and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, and stars none other than Norman Reedus, one of the stars of The Walking Dead. It also frightens some Joystiq staff so much they refuse to play it. Not Richard Mitchell, though! He'll be marching into P.T. blind starting at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch, unafraid of the madness that waits within. What's waiting in there? Do Solid Snake and Daryl team up to fight kaiju? Probably not. That'll probably just stay a dream. Joystiq Streams broadcasts live every Tuesday and Thursday at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch, but stray streams like this one happen all the time so make sure to follow us on Twitch to know when we're live.

  • Joystiq Streams: Tomb Raider 2, Lara's original PlayStation exclusive [UPDATE: Relive the stream!]

    08.12.2014

Gamescom 2014 hasn't even officially opened its doors to the public, but the biggest European gaming event of the year has already yielded up some mad surprises: Rise of the Tomb Raider is going to be an Xbox exclusive. What that means is still unclear, of course. We know that Rise will be "Xbox only" in 2015, but we don't know if that means it's Xbox One only or if the Xbox 360 will get a Lara Croft-ian 10th birthday present. What we do know: This whole situation feels awfully familiar. Way back in 1997, after the original Tomb Raider was a smash on PlayStation and Sega's Saturn, Tomb Raider 2 became a PlayStation console exclusive. Is history repeating itself? Is it a coincidence? WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN!? To find out, Joystiq Streams is broadcasting Tomb Raider 2, the original Lara Croft console exclusive, at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch. Joystiq Streams broadcasts every Tuesday and Thursday at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch, but we regularly broadcast at unschedule times so make sure to follow us on Twitch! [Images: Square-Enix]

    08.07.2014

Ah how shameless, the way these mortals blame the gods! From us alone they say come all their Joystiq Streams yes but they themselves with their own reckless ways compound their pains beyond their proper share by playing games like Abyss Odyssey with such careless abandon. Not an odyssey of the mind, not a Homeric odyssey, and certainly not a Magnavox Odyssey, Joystiq Streams is exploring the bizarre sidescrolling and fisticuffs of ACE Team's Abyss Odyssey. The same crew behind Zeno Clash, Abyss Odyssey marks a shift away from that game's surrealist first-person brawling. Rather than deformed characters getting punched in a muted, poisonous landscape, Abyss Odyssey has you picking one of three characters to dive into randomly generated abysses. Waiting within? New things to punch in unusual ways, but from the side this time! Joystiq Streams will explore Abyss Odyssey's unplumbed depths at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch. Ludwig Kietzmann will be behind the controller while Susan Arendt backs him up and hangs with the chat. Joystiq Streams broadcasts live every Tuesday and Thursday at 4PM EST Joystiq.com/Twitch, but unscheduled streams go live all the time, so be sure to follow us on Twitch to know when we're on. • Joystiq Streams: The Sailor Moon Super Nintendo RPG time forgot [UPDATE: Relive the stream!]

    08.05.2014

Back in the long, long ago of 1995, well before the armies of deviantARTists and international cosplayers rose to power, anime and manga-inflected goods were rare commodities in the Western world. Sailor Moon was on TV, albeit in mangled form, and we got the creme-de-la-creme of RPGs like Chrono Trigger, but that was it. Everything else was out of reach. Why, if you were the sort that harbored dreams of mixing that Sailor Moon melodrama with the steady stream of turn-based battles from Final Fantasy VI, all you could do was order a wall scroll and draw in your Trapper Keeper. Little did you know that such a game actually existed in Sailor Moon: Another Story. Joystiq Streams is realizing all of our fantasies today at 4PM EST when we stream Sailor Moon: Another Story at Joystiq.com/Twitch. What's it going to be like? We have no idea, since we've never played it. Rest assured, though, it will be aggressively '90s. Joystiq Streams broadcasts at 4PM EST at Joystiq.com/Twitch every Tuesday and Thursday, but we regularly stream throughout the week so make sure to follow us on Twitch to know when we go live.
