Want to get a jump on your holiday shopping or find a couple of insane bargains to keep for yourself? A few retailers are offering what they've dubbed "Black Friday-style" price cuts for tomorrow -- Saturday, November 8th. Walmart's got a sweet 15.4-inch Compaq CQ-139WM (with 2GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive) laptop for $298, in addition to a PlayStation 2 bundled with a $30 WalMart gift card for $129, and a PlayStation 3 with a $100 gift card for $399. Over at Kmart they're offering up a rad 32-inch Sylvania LCD HDTV for $439.99 (they usually go for for $550). They also have several deals for Sunday, November 9th, including the Wii Fit for $89.99. Is it safe to assume that every Friday (not to mention Saturday and Sunday) until Christmas will be "black"? An image showing up on several forums (including QJ.net and HighDefDigest) allegedly shows the Sept.7 Kmart flyer featuring the expected rumored Xbox 360 price cut. This latest ad comes a week after a Radio Shack flyer featured similar information. If this Xbox 360 price cut plays out anything like the one from last month, we'll continue receiving a steady stream of retail ad and system confirmations without a word from Microsoft until the 11th hour. Expect another gallery post with all the retail information if that's what happens.[Via X3F]

click to embiggen Following up on yesterday's rumor that the Xbox 360 Premium model will soon fall to $299, Joystiq has received (from a separate source) what we believe may be the full-page Kmart ad confirming the price drop . However, our new source says that the flyer is actually for the week of July 13 (E3 week!) and not the originally reported week of July 6. We're attempting to get a better quality scan (this latest image is courtesy of another cell phone) and hope to update by this evening.Update: We now have a very good quality scan of the page. • Rumor: 20GB 360 dropping to $299 July 6

A High-Def Digest forum member by the mysterious name of Master X has captured images that appear to reveal an upcoming price drop for the 20GB Xbox 360 Pro console. The images reportedly come from a Kmart flier for the week of July 6. According to the image, the price of the Pro will be reduced to $299, knocking the price down by a hefty $50. There is no word on how this will affect the prices of the Xbox 360 Arcade and Elite models, which currently sit at $280 and $450 respectively. The price cut makes the difference between the Pro and the Arcade (which contains no hard drive at all) a mere $20 though, so we imagine price cuts are forthcoming for all models. Expect updates when we have more information.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in. Via Joystiq]

  • Get a new 40GB PS3 system for $366

It's not easy to find deals on PS3 hardware. Retailers barely make a profit on these packages, and it's usually up to glitches to find a new system for anything lower than MSRP. That seems to be the case with this latest Kmart deal. You can pick up a new 40GB PS3 system for $360 + $6 shipping. You'll have to use coupon code "AK10OFF7" to take advantage of the savings. We don't know how long this will last, but for those of you that have been on the border about buying a PS3, this might be your best opportunity yet.[Via Slickdeals.net]

  • Gibson lays lawsuit on GameStop, other major retailers

Gibson seems to be poking its straw into any hole it can find these days, trying to desperately suck up some of that gooey Guitar Hero money before it's all gone. On Monday, the guitar maker filed a federal lawsuit against major retailers that sell Guitar Hero games, including GameStop, Wal-Mart, Target, Kmart, Amazon, and Toys "R" Us, seeking to prohibit sales of the games. In a statement released Thursday, the company claimed it took "this action reluctantly, but is required to protect its intellectual property."Though Gibson has yet to file suit against Guitar Hero owner Activision, the guitar company has made a legal claim alleging that the games (when played with the guitar controllers) violate Gibson's patent for a type of virtual music performance. Subsequently, Activision filed a preemptive lawsuit against Gibson last week, and then publicly dismissed Gibson's patent infringement claim. Most recently, Gibson targeted Guitar Hero creator and former developer Harmonix, its daddy's daddy Viacom and Rock Band co-publisher Electronic Arts for allegedly violating the same patent ... Yeah, our head's spinning too. [Via Engadget]

  • US economy hurting smaller LCD brands

    by

We've already heard about how the economic slowdown in the US may be hiking up your cable bills, and it stands to reason that gadget buying will feel a pinch as well as buyers tighten their belts. But like so many other things in business, it may be the "little guys" (in this case, smaller LCD brands) that get jammed up. Even though consumers will be looking favorably at value-oriented LCDs, there are murmurs that resellers are pushing out their payment terms from 2-months to 3-4-months. It's hard to argue that a change in payment terms like this will negatively affect smaller, more tightly-budgeted manufacturers. But, we'd also like to remind folks that in the specific case intimated in the article (Syntax-Brillian), there's also the whole issue of its ill-fated LCOS efforts. On a positive note, we suggest value-oriented manufacturers tout the money-saving that staying at home with a good TV can produce (cheaper and more enjoyable than going out).[Via TGDaily]

  • Slew of retailers to carry TV converter boxes; coupon requests open in 2008

Yeah, we pretty much expected every big box retailer known to man to carry these things, but just in case you were worried about locating a TV converter box in preparation for the upcoming cutover, here's some comforting news. Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, Kmart, RadioShack, Target, Sears and Sam's Club are all on the list to carry equipment necessary for analog TV owners to receive OTA programming after February 2009, and just in case one of the aforementioned giants aren't anywhere near you, around 100 more smaller retailers have been certified to stock 'em. Also of note, you can start the new year off right by reminding your great grandparents (or other family members, too) that they can go on and apply for up to two coupons -- which should arrive around six weeks later -- worth $40 apiece to purchase the required boxes. Or, of course, you could just pick them up a new television this holiday season and be done with it.[Via BroadcastingCable]

  • Kmart breaks Mass Effect street date

That silly, bankrupt and out of touch retailer Kmart has pulled a no-no this weekend and has reportedly put copies of Mass Effect onto retail shelves before its scheduled release date. Cheap Ass Gamer and numerous other fanboys are reporting that Kmart stores nationally are selling Mass Effect before the game's November 20th release date and are being bought up as if they were semi-precious gems. And we're sure it was a simple mistake on Kmart's behalf (or a calculated ploy at foiling BioWare's launch plans), but it's one that benefits us so we're fine with it. Mass Effect fanboys run, no sprint to your nearest Kmart and demand an early release copy of Mass Effect. Just be sure to leave out the whole broken street date bit.[Thanks, NukeAssault]

  • No blue-light special at Kmart for Blu-ray

The nations declining discount retailer has decided to not carry Blu-ray players, citing the price. They say that they aren't choosing sides and that no one's bought an end-cap, but they feel that Blu-ray players are more focused on home theater enthusiasts and they recognize that those people don't shop for the latest HT gear at Kmart. We don't get into a Kmart much, but the last time we checked the only HD movie gear they had on the shelves was an Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on drive hidden amongst the rest of the 360 accessories.Update: Kmart reaffirms this to High-Def Digest saying that "Kmart intends to support both the HD DVD and Blu-ray platforms, and has no plans to support either platform exclusively." We should've also mentioned that PS3s can be found on Kmart's shelves.

  • Wiis at Kmart this Sunday

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gaming_news/Wiis_at_Kmart_this_Sunday'; It will be months before manufacturers will be able to meet the Wii demand and end its shortage, but you might not have to wait until then to get your hands on the supply-constrained console. Kmart's latest circular advertises that the retail chain's stores will have Nintendo Wiis in stock next Sunday, but we doubt that the systems will stay on shelves longer than a few minutes. It was just this morning when a few of you confessed to us about not being able to acquire a Wii yet, so this must be a sign from the heavens! Or from Ace of Base! If you're still looking for an opportunity to buy the console, especially considering this week's Super Paper Mario release, here's your chance. You won't even have to go broke over outrageous eBay prices or offer up your unsullied body on Craigslist! Jump past the post break for the Kmart flyer.[Via CAG]

  • Kmart had a $20 HDTV

Wish someone would have told us (we do have a tip line) about this earlier. Did you know that Kmart had a 46-inch Hitachi HDTV clearenced out at $20 bucks? Well, that's the word according to the Baltimore ABC affiliate, ABC2 and surprise, surprise, Kmart didn't honor the price. A few friends placed orders for the obviously miss-priced TV and didn't end up getting their sets. Retailers have to honor misprinted ads - as long as they don't have a handy-dandy sign next to the item stating the correct price - but they can cancel online orders with the click of button. Honestly though, who would think that Kmart would actually give them the TV but who wouldn't try anyways?

  • Kmart plays with one blogger's emotions

Seriously, how sadistic are you Kmart? You lure us in with those blue light specials and soon we're signing our name in blood on the dotted line. All for what? A cheap set of plush terry cloth towels? Well, you've tormented us for the last time! Well, actually, you tormented a different blogger for the last time, but all for one and one for all, y'know?See, a blogger, who is still without a Wii (poor lad), has been checking on a daily basis to see if he could snag one of those elusive Wii. And he isn't about to pay for one of them rip-off bundles, either. So upon seeing the system for sale, all by its lonesome, via Kmart's website, he decided to snatch it up with the quickness, only to be let in on the cruel, cruel joke: the console is in stock but only available in quantities of zero.
