Lamborghini revealed a new EV concept vehicle at Monterey Car Week. The all-electric Lamborghini Lanzador boasts all kinds of high-tech bells and whistles, with a design actually inspired by spaceships. This grand tourer (GT) vehicle features plenty of infotainment features, with a large Y-shaped center console bridge and a slim dashboard for making adjustments. The driver also has instant access to climate controls and various digital functions via an integrated “pilot’s unit.”

Lamborghini just announced the 2024 Revuelto, a plug-in hybrid supercar that gets just six miles of all-electric usage per charge but features a charging mechanism within the combustion engine. Beyond the battery, the engine specs are outstanding and the form factor is aerospace-inspired, with sculpted surfaces and hexagonal exhausts.

Last year Lamborghini debuted the 819HP Sian hybrid, its supercar with a supercapacitor, and now it’s back after deleting one pesky detail. This Sian Roadster is no convertible — there is no roof at all, so owners can always hear the V12 engine it pairs with a 48-volt electric motor more clearly. As Lamborghini CTO Maurizio Reggiani explained to Engadget last fall, the supercapacitor stores and discharges energy much more quickly than the lithium ion batteries most hybrids use.

Even though Oppo isn't as well-known in the US, chances are you might have come across one of its recent tech demos. This is the brand that brought us the pop-up camera wedge, periscope-based 10x hybrid zoom, under-screen camera, waterfall screen and 65W fast charging, among other things. But when it comes to design, it was the company's Find X which first stood out with its super minimalistic appearance, courtesy of its hidden cameras. It was definitely a one-of-a-kind smartphone. So naturally, phone nerds such as myself have high expectations for its successor, the Find X2 Pro, which is pitched as an "all-round 5G flagship."

Alexa is about to come to some particularly posh cars, and it'll handle more than you might think. Both Lamborghini and Rivian have announced that Amazon's voice assistant will be integrated in their vehicles by the end of 2020. It'll perform common Alexa tasks like calls, navigation and even paying for gas (for Lambos, that is), but you can also use it for climate control, windows and other basic car functions. You might not have to touch a button if you're just trying to warm up on a cold day.

"We are a game-changer and a provocateur," Lamborghini's CTO, Maurizio Reggiani told Engadget. The automaker has a long history of making waves with traffic-stopping designs and more recently, innovative tech. At last week's Frankfurt Motor Show, the Italian company unveiled its Sian hybrid supercar. But it ditched the traditional battery pack in favor of a supercapacitor to power an electric motor, which is exactly what you would expect from the Italian company.

Lamborghini's first hybrid supercar is the 819HP Sián

Even Lamborghini can't resist the pressure to electrify its lineup, although it's definitely not following a conventional route. The Italian automaker has introduced the Sián ("flash" or "lightning" in Bolognese dialect), its first hybrid car, and the emphasis here is on raw performance over eco-friendliness. The coupe mates a 785HP V12 engine with a 34HP electric motor that provides both "immediate response" and, conveniently, the most power ever in a production Lamborghini. It can reach 62MPH in a brisk 2.8 seconds while reaching a 217MPH top speed, and you'll see tangible improvements in traction force that help it out-accelerate previous beasts like the Aventador SVJ.

Lamborghini teaser hints at a hybrid 'hypercar'

Ever since Lamborghini showed off its wild MIT-collaborated Terzo Millennio concept we've been waiting to see what a production version could look like, and we might find out soon. Autoblog points out this teaser image posted to the company's Instagram page which shows the logo, a silhouette and some Y-shaped LEDs that harken back to the 2017 concept. Features like a self-healing carbon fiber shell, in-wheel electric motors and supercapacitor energy storage probably aren't ready for prime time yet, but Lamborghini has seemingly been preparing for a limited edition follow-up ever since. The Aventador and Huracan are scheduled to get hybrid drivetrains eventually and Lamborghini's Asterion concept showed one possible future, but this could give an early preview of the technology. Whatever the vehicle is, we should see more of it at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show that officially begins September 12th.

I'm six-foot-three-inches tall. I mention that fact pretty often in car reviews because it adds context when I remark on head and leg room. If my large frame will fit in a compact car, maybe yours will too. Being comfortable while driving is important. If you've ever tried to operate a car while the seat is pushed forward to make room for a passenger in the back, you know how hard and potentially dangerous that is.

Over the past few decades, technology has made vehicles safer and easier to drive. Anti-lock brakes, traction control, torque vectoring and other bits of tech keep cars on the road instead of flying into a ditch when things get hairy. It's why newer cars typically handle corners better than older cars.

To some, the idea of a Lamborghini SUV is tantamount to high treason. Over the past six decades the automaker has introduced the iconic Countach, Diablo and P400 Miura. Those cars inspired lust in our hearts and dug holes out of the bank accounts of the rich. How could the company chase a market with a vehicle you use to pick up your kids at school?

If you're a car person, you've at least looked at a Lamborghini and wondered, "Are they as awesome as the mystique around them?" Sure, they conjure up images of guys wearing too much cologne while blasting bad covers of popular songs over an EDM beat. Also, there's probably a gold chain thrown in there somewhere. If you toss aside that weird stereotype and really look at the vehicles coming out of Italy, you'd realize they're more than just fodder for posters. They're actually pretty remarkable.
