Rumor: Lego City Undercover eShop download requires external hard drive
Aside from the payment required to download Lego City Undercover when it launches on the Wii U eShop next week, on March 18, you'll also need an external hard drive.The information comes from the official game page. Clicking pre-order on the top-right provides two options: retail and eShop download. The eShop listing says: "An external hard drive is required to download this software." It may be a situation where the basic Wii U's 8GB of storage isn't enough for the download, or it's possible an external hard drive is needed even with the 32GB deluxe model.We've contacted Nintendo for more information. We'll be sure to relay Nintendo's final word as soon as we get it.
Lego City Undercover review: Chip off the old block
Much like the toy these days, Lego City Undercover is both familiar and unfamiliar. Or, more to the point, it's two games masquerading as one, the first new and the second old.The introduction of a tremendous open world, a plastic parody of a city full of whimsy to discover, and more importantly to collect, is what should define Lego's Wii U debut. This miniature metropolis sits alongside an almost wholly separate campaign, its tight, linear missions shuffling to the break-it-rebuild-it rhythm which has long been the Lego beat.The first game, the exploratory open world collect-a-thon, is not just fresh, it's on the verge of greatness. It's unfortunate, then, that to fully enjoy it you must wade through the second game, the campaign, and all its relatively drab, through-the-motions familiarity.%Gallery-173623%
TT Fusion: Lego City Undercover takes 40-50 hours to fully uncover
Despite being more kid-oriented than most open-world games, the Wii U's Lego City Undercover sounds like it has a reasonable amount of open world to deal with. Estimating the amount of gameplay, in hours, in the title, TT Fusion executive producer Loz Doyle told Nintendo Life "There are so many vehicles, characters and missions. There's so much content in the game already – you're talking 40-50 hours to get 100%, it's difficult to imagine what we could put in." The last bit means that DLC might be a stretch.Of course, game length is not in any way an indicator of quality – but it does seem a bit more important for open-world games, where wandering around finding random stuff to do is a big part of the fun. Lego City Stories now 'Lego City Undercover,' another game in the series coming to 3DS
The name of the Wii U Lego game announced last year has been changed from Lego City Stories to Lego City Undercover. An exclusive portable version of Lego Undercover is also coming – "the same great franchise, but a different game" – to 3DS, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime said.
