You may not have noticed during the frenzy of battle, but Pac-Man's got something interesting going on with his battle bot in Street Fighter X Tekken. On the back, there's an animated classic Pac-Man game board where Pac's chasing down his next ghastly snack!Too bad nobody will be able to notice the intricate Easter egg mid-fight. Instead, you'll probably want to check it out in the customization screen – or, by simply hitting the play button on the video above.[Thanks, Robert.]

  • Street Fighter X Tekken update dropping tomorrow with new gems, replay analyzer

Now that the pesky sound issue in Street Fighter X Tekken's online modes has been taken care of, Capcom has time to focus on what really matters: More gems. A massive, massive batch of gems is to delivered to the game tomorrow via update, along with a "replay analyzer." It caught us off guard at first, because the analyzer's purpose/function is not described in the Capcom Unity announcement from which this news originates.Ater a little digging, however, we uncovered an official description of the feature, which describes it as "a tool that will show you various data from a replay." Ah, yes, of course. It all seems so obvious in hindsight. The full list of tomorrow's gems can be found beyond the veil.

  • Tekken producer Harada: No DLC characters for us

Capcom's been explaining itself over the on-disc DLC that came with Street Fighter x Tekken, but Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada said there will be no such problem with his side of the franchise. Because, you see, he told Edge that no Tekken game will ever have DLC characters at all. That's quite a pronouncement. He clarified that he doesn't have a problem with Capcom doing it, noting that their motives may be different from his. But Harada sees, he said, "the characters and their move sets as chess pieces – they are essential items necessary in the game and we would never sell any of those individually."That doesn't rule out DLC completely, as Harada added that vanity items that might be added to the game after the fact would likely come with a charge. Characters might also be added to a Tekken game in advance as pre-order incentives, as long as they could eventually be unlocked by all players in the game. But as for after-the-fact characters, you won't find any of those in Tekken x Street Fighter if Harada has his way.

  • Bleszinski: On-disc DLC an unfortunate necessity

With the recent kerfuffle surrounding Street Fighter X Tekken's on-disc downloadable content, Epic's Cliff Bleszinski chimed in on the issue, calling it "an ugly truth of the gaming industry." Speaking to GameSpot, the well-known designer noted that prior to a game finally shipping, there are "often three or four months where the game is basically done," leaving developers with "an idle team that needs to be working on things."For the sake of compatibility, some downloadable content may need to be located on the disc itself. "It's an ugly truth of the gaming industry," Bleszinski added, "I'm not the biggest fan of having to do it, but it is one of the unfortunate realities." Once the industry goes entirely digital, he said, the issue will be obsolete.Capcom recently raised the ire of its fans when it was discovered that upcoming downloadable characters were already on the disc. The publisher stated that the content was included on the disc in order to ensure compatibility by offering a "single, unified version of the game." In a response to Better Business Bureau complaints, the company later stated its belief that there is "effectively no distinction" between bonus content included on a disc and downloaded content.

If you have Street Fighter X Tekken on the PlayStation Vita, you'll be able to compete not only against other Vita players but against PS3 players as well. Capcom went to Rome last week to reveal PS3/Vita crossplay for the fighter, using both Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. Some of those PS3 players will be using arcade sticks. Good luck!Street Fighter X Tekken on Vita will also have touch controls. Details have yet to be announced, but if they're anything like the touch controls on Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, just don't think too much about it anymore.Update: We have tons of videos and screens for you of the new Vita game; above, check out an eight-minute "episode" introducing the Vita characters; after the break, check out gameplay.%Gallery-152826%

  • Hello? Street Fighter X Tekken sound and gem patch drops April 10

The sound issues plaguing online play for Street Fighter X Tekken should be remedied with an update on April 10, Capcom has announced. The patch not only tackles the sound vacuum, but also addresses gem complaints -- specifically, how annoying it is to set up gem combinations right now.Users will be able to set gem combinations from the versus screen as opposed to having to go through each individual fighter and setting combinations that way. A demonstration of the new gem system, as well as an overview of the upcoming DLC schedule, can be seen in the above video from the folks at Capcom-Unity.

Some consumers were particularly riled by Capcom's decision to lock Street Fighter X Tekken downloadable content directly on the disc itself. Some were riled enough to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, with Cinema Blend posting a response from Capcom reportedly received by several consumers. Capcom's statement defends the practice, noting that the company is sorry for customers that feel disappointed, though it adds that the game includes "an enormous amount of content" out of the box.As for the DLC itself, the statement echoes Capcom's previous remarks, saying that the on-disc content "will provide more flexible and efficient gameplay throughout the game's lifecycle." The statement adds that the only difference between on-disc and off-disc DLC is delivery method, with Capcom nothing there is "effectively no distinction" between them. For what it's worth, Capcom has closed 10 complaints with the BBB over the last 12 months, six of those coming since March 27, after the launch of Street Fighter X Tekken.

Following a hospital stay for a sudden illness, Street Fighter series producer Yoshinori Ono is temporarily stepping away from his duties. "I'll refrain from work for current job for a while," he said on Twitter. "Another person in charge of SF series for a while." He added that he will still offer "constant support."The rest of the Street Fighter team is "working wholeheartedly on patches for [Street Fighter X Tekken]," he said. "[Please] wait just a little longer." We wish Ono a speedy recovery and hope he gets a chance to relax. "Relaxed" is not a state we can remember ever having seen him in.

The fact that Street Fighter X Tekken's character DLC exists on the disc is a contentious issue in its own right, but now a preemptive compatibility countermeasure is being exploited by nefarious ne'er-do-wells with hacked Xbox 360s.As seen in the video above, unreleased DLC characters have begun showing up on Xbox Live. While this doesn't cause any technical problems for law-abiding citizens or break the game in any way, Capcom is unpleased: "Quite ballsy for folks to be taking hacked Xbox 360s on Live where they are detectable," said Capcom senior vice-president Christian Svensson. "In any event, we already have openned channels of communication with MS on these issues Friday night."Initially, Svensson asked members of the Capcom Unity forums to take screenshots and record videos of offenders, but that thread has since been closed. "We'll catch them ourselves," Svensson added, presumably just before donning a cloak and cowl and jumping out the nearest open window.

While we all await Capcom's plan to address a number problems with Street Fighter X Tekken -- the absence of online couch co-op in the Xbox 360 version; the sound, infinite combo and lag issues that persist online -- the company has laid out plans for DLC, both free and premium. On April 3, alternate costumes go on sale, allowing SF characters to dress up like Tekken people and vice versa. Each costume will set you back 80 MS Points ($1) each, or 1040 MS Points ($13) each for all SF or all Tekken fighters. Also, Capcom will release some free colors for customization and three new quick combo slots for each fighter. After the April stuff, Capcom will release a free tournament support update that makes it easier to select gems at the character select screen through some kind of "dial system." Following that is a title update that will add "three new Assist Gem packs and six new Boost Gem packs, which add over 60 gems to the selection pool," Capcom-Unity reports. Each character will also get three more customizable gem sets, bringing the total up to five for each fighter. Finally, those 12 characters coming to consoles after the Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken launches are priced as a set at 1600 MS Points ($20). It'll be available later this year.

The Xbox 360 version of Street Fighter X Tekken is missing the four-player co-op mode (designed to allow you and a friend to team up locally and take on another pair of players online). Assistant producer Tomoaki Ayano explained its absence in a translated statement on Capcom-Unity."Throughout the development process, there are times when new features are added (and we added a lot of them!) and there are also times where we have to make tough decisions regarding things to cut," Ayano said. "This was one of those times. This mode is supported in the PlayStation 3 version, however, since we tackled that earlier and found the architecture of their system to be more conducive to implementing it."Ayano apologized for the omission, and said that information about further game updates would be "coming up soon."

Aside from annual increments, each Capcom fighter is distinctly different from its siblings: Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Super Street Fighter 4 are wildly disparate experiences, for instance, as were Street Fighter: Third Strike and Marvel vs. Capcom 2.That trend of differentiation and innovation continues with Street Fighter X Tekken, but the ingenuity of the game's excellent fighting engine is muddied by its unpolished, poorly designed and shoddily implemented framework. Think of it as the console port of an arcade game that never existed; an uninspired checklist of prerequisite features tacked on to an otherwise solid fighting experience, with predictably underwhelming results.%Gallery-144912%

  • You gethed it, Mass Effect 3 tops UK charts

EA is reaping quite a haul at retail, dominating the UK charts with Mass Effect 3 and harvesting pounds. According to Chart-Track, first week sales of the space opera's conclusion sold more than the first two installments combined, likely assisted by the fact that this is the first Mass Effect entry launched on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC simultaneously.Capcom's Street Fighter X Tekken put up a fight against overwhelming odds and debuted in third, while last week's top performer, SSX, slipped one spot into second, with a 49 percent decline. The other new entry in the top ten last week -- also, another EA title -- was the latest Sims expansion, The Sims 3: Showtime, which walked the red carpet in sixth. The UK top ten can be scanned after the break.

  • Street Fighter X Tekken can't take local teams online on Xbox 360

    by

There's a major difference between the Xbox 360 version of Street Fighter X Tekken and its PS3 twin, it turns out. According to the manual included with both versions, the game's tag team modes allow you and a local friend to sign on to the same console and fight against two other people online; your buddy presses start at the character select screen and off you go. In actuality, this functionality only exists in the PS3 version of the game. The issue has been acknowledged by Christian Svensson at Capcom, who stated that Capcom has no plans to patch the feature in, and that its inclusion in the manual was a mistake. "The reason for this difference is because of the architecture differences between [Xbox Live] gamertags and PSN IDs. I'm not sure of the technical details, but basically it amounts to: Sony made it so you can mix and match online and offline, and Microsoft made it so you can't."That sounded like a reasonable explanation, until we remembered that the 360 version of Mortal Kombat does that exact thing, allowing two local players to take part in tag-team battles online. If it's possible for NetherRealm Studios to include the feature in Mortal Kombat -- the MK studio's first release under the NetherRealm banner -- its exclusion from Capcom's brand-new flagship fighter seems strange at the very least.

Shoppers on the other side of the pond looking to snag two of Capcom's latest from GAME will have to look elsewhere, as the retailer will not be stocking either Asura's Wrath or Street Fighter X Tekken. The retailer also recently announced that it won't carry Mass Effect 3 and future EA titles. Street Fighter X Tekken and Asura's Wrath are both slated to launch in the UK this Friday, March 9.Capcom confirmed the news to MCV, which notes that the availability of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Capcom's next big title, is still up in the air. A spokesperson stated, "Capcom wants to reassure its consumers that both these titles, including the Special Edition of Street Fighter X Tekken, will be available at a wide variety of retailers across the UK and Ireland." The spokesperson added that refunds will be issued to those with pre-orders for either Asura's Wrath or Street Fighter X Tekken, advising customers to contact their local GAME or Gamestation.

  • Capcom: Street Fighter X Tekken DLC on-disc to ensure compatibility

Over the weekend, it was discovered that forthcoming downloadable content for Street Fighter X Tekken already exists on the game disc itself, meaning that purchasing said content actually boils down to simply unlocking it. Some fans were riled by the revelation, enough so that Capcom has issued a statement on the matter.According to the publisher, the DLC was placed on the disc in order to "save hard drive space and to ensure for a smooth transition when the DLC is available." Capcom community manager Brett Elston elaborated that including the DLC on the disc will allow all users to play against one another, regardless of whether or not they have purchased the DLC. Having a single, unified version of the game, said Elston, allows "everyone to participate in the update without additional patches or hiccups."Another reason for the on-disc content, said Elston, is Capcom's promise to avoid a "super" version of SFxT akin to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Capcom's full statement can be found after the break.

  • Some Street Fighter X Tekken character DLC may exist on disc, Elena playable via glitch

So, you know how the Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken is launching this fall with 12 bonus characters, and that those fighters are coming to the console versions as DLC? Well, it looks like at least one of them may already be on the 360 version. Awkward. In the video above, YouTube user SoulReaperTTG demonstrates a glitch that allows the player to select Elena (one of the 12 DLC characters) and fight with her normally. While we don't know how the glitch actually works, it appears to be based on tricking the game into loading Elena's character data instead of Poison's. This isn't Poison wearing Elena's skin, either; anyone familiar with Third Strike will instantly recognize Elena's moves as being distinctly her own.SoulReaperTTG's channel also features prologue videos for some of the DLC characters, supposedly recovered from the 360 version of the game. Now, because the game isn't actually out yet, we have no way of knowing if the retail version actually shipped with this content, or if Elena's inclusion is unique to the pre-release version SoulReaperTTG got his hands on. We anticipate extensive sleuthing to commence once the game releases this Tuesday, and have reached out to Capcom for comment.
