It may not be as grandiose as Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's opening cinematic, but Street Fighter X Tekken's intro flick does have way, way more wicked electric-guitar riffs. That counts for a lot in our book, especially since the book is called "Check These Wicked Electric-Guitar Riffs."

As we learned a few months ago, the PS3 and Vita versions of Street Fighter X Tekken will include the two best/worst characters ever to grace a fighting game: Original Box-Art Mega Man, and Mecha-Mokujin Pac Man.These characters won't be available out of the box, however; both hilarious callbacks will be released as free DLC on March 13, one week from SFxT's North American release on March 6, according to Capcom Unity. We're alright with this, because it means we'll at least get one week of fighting regular characters online. As soon as Mega/Pac-Man are available, we don't expect to see anyone else, ever again.

Capcom's Seth Killian told Shacknews that the 12 extra characters in the Vita edition of Street Fighter X Tekken would eventually arrive on consoles. We just have one question: DLC or Ultimate Edition release?"We'll find a way to make sure that console fans are happy, as well," Killian noted at last night's launch party in Los Angeles. Sadly, he wouldn't go into specifics on when or how the additional dozen would be added to the console version. The 12 characters in question are Street Fighter's Elena, Guy, Cody, Sakura, Dudley and Blanka, and Tekken's Alisa, Christie, Jack, Brian, Lars and Lei.Update: Reader Joel wrote in to tell us about this interview, where Capcom's Yoshinori Ono promised all content updates in Street Fighter X Tekken would be offered as DLC, intimating that these 12 characters would be no exception -- it would seem they'll come to consoles as DLC. We'll hear more in April when Capcom holds its annual Captivate event.

Capcom put together a launch event for Street Fighter X Tekken in downtown LA last night, and filled the basement vaults of the Majestic Halls (an old bank building) with Street Fighter and Tekken art and demo units for the game. Some of fighting's finest were in attendance as well, including Capcom's Seth Killian and Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono.You can browse through the gallery below to see what it was like. Keep eye out for art being made live by Capcom artists, Yoshinoro Ono doing a (very excited) signing, and a big wall hanging featuring all of Capcom's long and storied fighting game history. Street Fighter X Tekken finally arrives in stores everywhere next week.%Gallery-149283%

If the only thing keeping you from a meaningful PlayStation Home experience was a lack of fistfighting, good news. For a promotional Street Fighter X Tekken "Total Game Integration" event, you'll get to beat the crap out of those annoyingly placid-looking Home avatars. A series of challenges will allow you to unlock Ryu and Kazuma costumes, enabling you to spice up your brawls with hadoukens and jump kicks. For the ultimate "stuff you never thought about doing in Home" experience, you can even pre-order the game from within the virtual world, getting access to a pack of in-game Gems.

YouTube user MegatonStammer is tired of the rumors, lies, and speculation surrounding Final Fight's famous baddie, Poison. So tired, in fact, that he created an incredibly thorough 20-minute documentary setting the record straight regarding the upcoming Street Fighter X Tekken character's gender confusion.

There are a lot of rules that apply to fighting games as a genre, chief among them being that no matter how good you get, somewhere in the world is a person that can completely destroy everything you think you are. The very fiber of your being, thrown to the four winds, never again to coalesce into the person you once were. Ennui, pure and desolate, in hadouken form. But hey, don't let that discourage you from trying! When you know the darkness is coming, you can prepare for it, which is why we recommend watching the Street Fighter X Tekken combo exhibition by DESK embedded above. Many of the techniques in this video will likely be seen online shortly after the game's launch, so study up. After all, as Mortal Kombat taught us, knowledge is power.

The Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken will be the most populous of all. In addition to the PS3/Vita-exclusive Pac-Man, Mega Man, Cole, Toro, and Kuro, Capcom announced twelve extra characters on Vita as part of its Street Fighter 25th Anniversary celebration. The portable fighter will have exclusive access to Street Fighter's Elena, Guy, Cody, Sakura, Dudley and Blanka, and Tekken's Alisa, Christie, Jack, Brian, Lars and Lei.There may yet be time for these new fighters to show up in the console game: Capcom said that the Vita version would be released in the fall. That gives the publisher plenty of time to release the characters as console DLC. In any case, where's our tiny arcade stick?

SXSWi, the "interactive" technology portion of Austin's South by Southwest festival that runs between March 9 and 13, also hosts ScreenBurn, a three-day gaming conference and expo. The ScreenBurn Arcade portion of ScreenBurn is open to the general public, and to kick things off the first day of the Arcade will feature a Street Fighter X Tekken tournament, presented by IGN Pro League. An exhibition-style tournament, the event will be more of a spectator activity, rather than something that the public can enter and participate in. Still, it'll be a good opportunity to see highly technical play of the game just after its release. Since attending the ScreenBurn Arcade doesn't require a SXSWi pass, Austinites interested in the future of fighting can swing by the Palmer Center between 3PM and 7 PM Central on March 9 to scope out the tourney. If you see a complete dork dressed like Dan Hibiki, come say hi.

Just as suspected, Akuma, M. Bison, Jin and Ogre will be among the playable characters at launch for Street Fighter X Tekken. Sorry, no word on Xiaoyu.Community blog Capcom-Unity also notes the PC version now has a final launch date of May 11, just a few days after the launch of its console brethren. Hit the jump for a few trailers showing off Ogre and Jin, and a few cinematics.

The best part of any cross-over fighting game like Street Fighter X Tekken is the contrived, often-hilarious excuse of a plot used to unite two franchises under the same roof. Judging from these 6 prologue videos, however, SFxT may have the least ridiculous concept ever seen in a cross-over fighter.

Street Fighter X Tekken's character roster has had more leaks than a Civil War-era submarine; this time, the unannounced character details come courtesy of a move list card deck included in a Taiwanese collector's edition of the game, which happens to include cards for five unannounced characters: M. Bison, Xiaoyu, Akuma, Jin and Ogre.M. Bison and Xiaoyu were leaked once already, but this is the first we've heard of Akume, Jin or Ogre's inclusion in the game. This collector's edition also includes a 46 track soundtrack and a Yoshinori Ono bobble-head figurine (!!), so we're desperately hoping that the US will get a similar package.

  • ESRB warning might reveal new characters for Street Fighter X Tekken

Street Fighter X Tekken has been officially listed by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (T for Teen, if you're wondering), and some details in the listing may have revealed a few more characters for the game. The description of possibly objectionable content in the game mentions both a character that uses "chainsaws," as well as the fact that "one wobbly character uses 'drunken' fighting moves."Neither of those descriptions matches any of the announced characters thus far, and fans have jumped to the conclusion that Tekken's Alisa Bosconovitch (who wields chainsaw arms) and drunken fighter Lei Wulong may be making an appearance in the crossover. It certainly seems possible, and this wouldn't be the first time ESRB has mentioned information in its warnings that was supposed to be secret. With the game due out next month, we'll know the truth before long.

You might be wondering why Capcom decided to go with an outlandish, embarrassing caricature of the Mega Man 1 box art Mega Man as a Street Fighter X Tekken bonus character for PS3 and Vita. According to a tweet from producer Yoshinori Ono, the decision was made with input from Capcom executive emeritus Keiji Inafune."I consulted with Mr.Megaman (his name is Mr.I...) about it 1 year ago," Ono said. This iteration was the "result" of that consultation. A previous Mega Man game developed under Inafune's command, the cancelled Mega Man Universe, also featured "Bad Box Art Mega Man." So maybe Inafune just thinks it's really funny. Now, as for why Mega Man and Pac-Man are Sony-exclusive characters despite not having anything to do with Sony or the PlayStation platforms ... we aren't sure who was consulted on that decision.[Thanks, Alex!]

  • Ono: Fighting games should have more customization, user creation

Yoshinori Ono is the Grand Poobah of all things Street Fighter these days, and it would be hard to pinpoint a single person who currently has more of an impact on the direction of the fighting game genre than he does. That direction, it turns out, looks an awful lot like some of the changes implemented in Street Fighter X Tekken, namely the Gem system and everything it stands for."For future titles I want to keep having this concept of, my character is different than your character," Ono said during an interview with Eurogamer. "In fighting games, the only difference between me and you is how good I am. But what I want to do with fighting games from now on is add in that element of customisation [sic], where I can have a Ryu that's different than your Ryu, so we can compete on a different level than just our execution."Ono envisions a future where players can modify their characters on a deeper level than SFxT's Gem system allows for. "It would be like, the Ryu that Yoshinori Ono made is the best, or the Ryu that other guy made sucks." Ono did not go into any specifics regarding future titles, but it's clear that he wants to steer the Street Fighter series away from the character selection screen and toward the stat tree.

  • Pummel history's worst Mega Man in Street Fighter X Tekken

When two universes butt heads in Street Fighter X Tekken, everyone's likely to see some weird stars. Pac-Man emerges from Namco's archives to join the bout (thanks to some mechanical assistance), while Capcom offers its most tragic and bewildering version of Mega Man. His awkward pose on the American box art for Mega Man 1 has been an inexhaustible source of Face X Palm, so it's tough turning down a chance to knock him senseless. As with Sony's Kuro and Toro cats and that other inFamous man, Pac-Man and the unhyphenated Mega Man are exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and Vita versions of Street Fighter X Tekken.

  • Street Fighter X Tekken getting post-launch tournament patch

Like the game that shares half its name, Street Fighter X Tekken will receive a free post-launch update aimed at the tournament crowd. Capcom hopes this patch will alleviate the concerns around the controversial gem system. In Street Fighter IV, it was a free update that added replays and other matchmaking features, but the exact nature of the free DLC in Street Fighter X Tekken is still mostly unknown."A lot of players were saying, 'I have to do button checks. Do I have to do a gem check now before a match?' With regards to that we plan to release a free post-launch tournament support mode," producer Yoshinori Ono told Eurogamer. "Hopefully from that we'll get feedback from the community, and then we'll have a better direction of exactly what we should do with this mode." Just so we're clear: The free mode will be released, and then based on how the mode is received, the mode will be changed? Crystal.Ono also says that players shouldn't expect DLC gems at launch. Instead, Capcom is adopting a wait-and-see approach, gauging community reaction before plotting its next move. "In terms of DLC gems, we don't have any set plans on selling gems like this or like that," Ono said. "We're waiting to see what the user reaction is first, because we think a lot of users still don't understand the gem system completely. They're not power-up items. That's not how we see them. We put gems into the game which are default. As long as you have these default ones you'll be fine. If you want to get more gems down the road from the pre-order bonuses, you can definitely do that, but it doesn't make you stronger, it doesn't make you a better player, it doesn't mean you'll have an advantage."

Capcom is looking to dip its toes into the reality show game with Cross Assault, which aims to spotlight ten different players vying for Street Fighter X Tekken dominance -- five for Team Street Fighter, five for Team Tekken. Wait a minute, that doesn't sound anything like when Road Rules went up against The Real World. We call shenanigans! If you want to be in Cross Assault, the above video is most likely not the way to do it. Instead we suggest you read the official entry rules a bit more closely, since Capcom is looking for a better representation of the fighting game community. You know, men and women who eat and sleep this stuff -- not dudes who just generally eat and sleep most of the time.

While the PlayStation 3 and Vita versions of Street Fighter X Tekken are seemingly jam-packed with platform-exclusive characters, it looks like the Xbox version will be stuck with the original roster, reports Xbox 360 Achievements. Street Fighter guru Yoshinori Ono recently told the site that while Capcom was "in discussions" with Microsoft regarding the possibility of special characters, "we weren't able to decide on a character because of differences in timing and things like that."Had a deal been reached, Ono said he would have liked to include either Marcus Fenix from Gears of War or Master Chief from the Halo series. Personally, our vote would have gone to "banana guy" from Kinect Sports.
