Fortnite and Star Wars are two of the largest entertainment brands the world over, so of course they're being mashed together, repackaged and sold all over again to hungry fans. Fortnite now has Rey, Finn and Sith trooper skins, plus a First Order TIE Fighter glider. There's also a Star Wars emote and banner (for gifting only), but those feel a bit underwhelming after the TIE Fighter news.

  • TIE interceptor drone looks ready to blast some rebel scum

The man who created a working Millennium Falcon out of a drone has crossed to the dark side. Techcrunch spotted the sleek but sinister Star Wars TIE fighter drone that builder Philip_C based on a Return of the Jedi model. After designing it in AutoCAD and painstakingly building it over several days (the motors are cached within the TIE panels) he tested it, calling the early results "not awesome." Many shattered props later, he finally had a stable craft-- complete with majestic LED lights -- that looks ready to be cannon fodder for the Falcon drone. He included a detailed, step-by-step log of his work, and you can watch it soar in the video below.

When Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, the writing was on the wall for LucasArts. The company had been shuttering studios for years already, slimming down Disney Interactive piece by piece. LucasArts did die, but with the house's best years long past them the real fear was that its long-dormant catalog would just be buried by Disney in the process. What would come of all those '80s and '90s LucasArts classics that had never been digitally released? Turns out those fears were unfounded. Good Old Games is bringing the LucasArts catalog back to the masses, including much-loved space flight sims like TIE Fighter. To celebrate, Joystiq will stream TIE Fighter at 5:30PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch. Resident EVE Valkyrie and Star Citizen pilot Xav de Matos (@Xav) will dust off his flight stick and take to the skies. Joystiq.com/Twitch broadcasts every Tuesday and Thursday at 4:00PM EST but irregular streams like these happen all the time so follow us on Twitch to catch them all. [Images: LucasArts]

Forget that upcoming Battlefront game for now -- the Star Wars titles that hardcore fans have really been looking for are finally here. Good Old Games has announced official re-releases of X-Wing and TIE Fighter that let you play these legendary space combat games (arguably, the best Star Wars games ever) on a modern PC without resorting to bootleg copies or hacks. They'll cost $10 each when they arrive on October 28th, and they're Special Editions that include both the CD-ROM content (SVGA graphics! Voiceovers!) as well as all the expansion packs. If you've been waiting two decades to once more recreate the Death Star trench run or blow up a Rebel frigate, your moment has come. Update: As you may have suspected, GOG posted those game links prematurely -- they disappeared shortly after we posted our story. Come back on the 28th and they should work properly.

  • Stick and Rudder: Why all the love for Roberts and Star Citizen?

I was talking with a gaming buddy recently who missed the whole space sim experience in the 1990s. He's a Star Wars fan and a real-life pilot pushing 40, so it surprised me to learn that he'd never heard of Wing Commander, Freespace, X-Wing, and the like. My jaw really hit the floor as our conversation turned to current games and I began to evangelize about Star Citizen and Chris Roberts. "Who's Chris Roberts?" he asked, with a straight face.

It happens all the time: When a new game is coming out we attempt to compare it to something familiar. "Jumpgate Evolution is like EVE combined with Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed." "Guild Wars 2's battles are scalable like Warhammer's." Even Rich Vogel, the Executive Producer for Star Wars: The Old Republic, couldn't get away from comparing his crafting system to an existing MMO when we interviewed him at E3. "It will be very similar to what WoW has," is what he said. Granted, Blaine Christine later set our minds at ease at PAX: "I think it's a different take on crafting than what people will be expecting. It's not the standard implementation." Unfortunately, the stigma of comparison was already there. One of my favorite features of MMO creation is the fact that there are no real rules regarding gameplay style. Granted, in the early days of MMO design, a creator had to consider the heavy latency of dial-up connections, so most games were designed to be turn-based. However, now there really is no limit to gameplay style, so there are no rules regarding what makes a game an MMO besides its having a persistent online world. There are no rules that say a game must have similar gameplay to other games that came before, even a prequel. Guild Wars 2 is a great example of this, yet people, inevitably, are going to attempt to compare Guild Wars and its sequel -- sometimes to the point of being unfair about it. Current Star Wars fans cannot help but compare SWTOR to Star Wars Galaxies. Follow me after the break as I make an attempt to debunk this stigma.

  • TIE Fighter webcam solidifies your obsession with Star Wars

Wesco Limited is offering up a TIE Fighter webcam, which -- truth be told -- would look completely ridiculous sitting atop your LCD. That being said, those of you already chatting it up with your fellow nerds on an R2-D2 webcam won't mind one bit. You'll also be interested to know that there's a complete dearth of specifications, though we do know that a pair of LEDs just below the camera lights up to brighten your cheery face. It's available for now around $40, and proceeds go directly into funding George Lucas' next extravagant vacation.[Via DigitalDrops]

Been cruising around in EVE Online and feeling like maybe something was missing? Like, say, nifty cool ships from your favorite movies? Well, obviously someone did, as they got inspired and constructed a can-art Tie Fighter! This EVE Online One Shots was sent in to us by Level4, who told us that the screen just can't capture how really well done this particular piece of can-art was. It certainly would be an interesting thing to come face-to-face with after dropping out of warp! (Note: can-art causes lag and makes the GMs grumpy, so pilot beware.)Do you have an old example of some cool can art you found while flying around? Perhaps you have some really cool screenshots of some Faction battles? We'd love to see some more EVE Online screenshots. Just send them to us at oneshots AT massively.com along with your name and whatever information you want to tell us about what's in the screenshot.%Gallery-9798%

  • Nikko to pair R2D2 projector with Tie Fighter speakers

So it seems pretty obvious when you think about it: if you're gonna go out and spend $1000+ on a projector / DVD player / iPod dock shaped like R2D2 from those Star Wars movies, you can't really hook it up to just any old speakers, now can you? Sure, some nice tower speakers from Energy or Boston Acoustics would sound pretty great, but if you want your home theater to have that authentic Jedi feel to it, it would seem that something more thematic / tacky is in order. Well, projector (and matching R2 Skype webcam) manufacturer Nikko has apparently come to this realization as well, and probably due to the unexpected popularity of its products tucked into a corner of South Hall at CES, has come up with a 2.1 speaker system shaped like a pair of Tie-Fighters. Scheduled to launch at CeBIT, not much is known about this unique setup other than the fact that bass comes courtesy of a dedicated subwoofer emblazoned with the classic Star Wars logo. Check out a few different angles in the gallery below, and stay tuned as we attempt to once again track down Nikko's booth for more in-depth coverage of what will likely be the sleeper hit of this year's show.%Gallery-2109%
