  • Capcom to release Umbrella Chronicles bundle in Korea, not U.S.

As it did in Japan, publisher Capcom will be releasing a Biohazard/Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles Zapper bundle on June 20th in Korea for ???55,000 (approximately $52.50). No word yet on whether any bonuses will be thrown in with early preorders, but it's very likely! Why don't these third-party bundles ever make it stateside? You'd think that Capcom, a company that has repackaged and sold to us the same game several dozen times in just three years, would be thrilled to thrust upon us yet another box bearing the Resident Evil logo! What's so great about Korea that they should get this package, and not us?%Gallery-3286%

  • Umbrella Chronicles ships a million units worldwide

With the successful wii-vival of Resident Evil 4, not to mention plans to introduce waggle to Resident Evil Zero in Japan, there's little question that Capcom enjoys returning to – and drinking from – the Wii's zombie-infested well. And for good reason, as the company announced that its latest trip down memory lane for the Wii, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, has shipped over a million units the world over since the game's debut last November.Impressive, for sure, though what's even more staggering is that the series as a whole has sold more than 34.5 million units globally as of February 29. However, the company is not all about survival horror, having recently confirmed plans for some 15 new projects in the works -- though Capcom will likely always have a special place in its heart (and wallet) for the decaying flesh of the undead.

If you're one of the few who decided this game wasn't worth owning at the $50 price range, you might want to give it a second look. Amazon's Deal of the Day has Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles on sale for the low price of $30. As if the prospect of shooting horde after horde of the undead wasn't enough to sell you ...But, in case it wasn't enough to sell you on the game, this should sell you on it. The game will also ship for free from Amazon, so no need to plunk down any extra dough there. If you don't know why we're so excited for an on-rail shooter, you haven't read our review of the game.Note: If you're interested in this sale, don't hesitate. It was already pulled once while we've been watching it. The game is no doubt a hot item right now. %Gallery-3286%

  • Umbrella Chronicles lurches toward a million sales

Capcom's on-rail shooter, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, is getting close to becoming a million-seller. It's been revealed that the title has sold 950,000 copies, with the million mark well within its reach. Actually, it could have already broken a million sales, as this data is current as of the end of December. The game did a lot better than Capcom initially thought, especially in the U.S. and Europe where it sold the strongest, as the company reveals the title did 50% better than their in-house estimations. Personally, we don't know why they would think a game about shooting the crap out of the living dead and genetically-altered beasties alike wouldn't sell a million. Plus, with the Resident Evil name attached to it, how could it not sell incredibly well?%Gallery-3286%

We thought about just giving away a Wii Zapper, but why stop there? We love to hook you guys (and gals) up with free stuff. It's, like, our thing. So, we decided to toss in a pretty badass game to go along with it in Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. And, since we aren't getting the bundle above, we figured we could kind of make our own special bundle. What do you need to do? Well, first you have to read the rules. Then, leave a comment (multiple comments will get you disqualified, so only one entry please) here telling us your favorite NES game that utilized the Nintendo Zapper (you can find a list of compatible games here). Then, you have to make sure your comment is in before December 3rd, 2007 at 11:59PM EST. Finally, all you need to do is sit back and relax. The winner will be announced on Tuesday and chosen via random drawing. The lucky winner will receive one Wii Zapper ($25) and one copy of Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles ($50).Best of luck to you all and thanks for reading Wii Fanboy!

Before we start this, you might want to know that this blogger is a huge Resident Evil fan. I've got every Resident Evil game, countless posters, shirts and figurines from the various games. The original was one of the most important games in my development as a gamer. It helped make me the gamer I am today. And when the franchise hit the GameCube, it was the icing on the cake. The Resident Evil remake that appeared on the system was amazing, along with Resident Evil 0 and the game that even franchise haters couldn't ignore, Resident Evil 4. As the first original game in the series on a Nintendo console since RE 4, this was an important game in my eyes. One has to consider the other spin-off Resident Evil titles, also. You might be skeptical to try out Umbrella Chronicles because of the Gun Survivor or Outbreak games. This, thankfully, is not in the same league as that riffraff.%Gallery-3286%

We have two sources of Weskeriffic Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles updates for you, to celebrate this most auspicious of made-up Resident Evil-related holidays (right after the Feast of Tofu and Unlocking Week). First, Famitsu has posted a completely Wesker-focused update, which includes some new screens of the playable Wesker, and not much new information, other than that he's kind of a badass.Second, the official Japanese Resident Evil page has updated with a new trailer (click on the "Movies" button, then the one marked "new", which focuses on-- you guessed it-- Hunk Albert Wesker. A very happy Wesker Day to all! Put on your traditional sunglasses!

Your money has been earmarked for Resident Evil games-- Capcom is just letting you hold on to it for a while. To help Japanese gamers keep this in mind, they're giving out this fancy Umbrella Corporation wallet along with copies of Umbrella Chronicles preordered through their e-Capcom site. You can keep your money in there in the brief intervening period between Resident Evil purchases. People planning to buy Japanese copies of Umbrella Chronicles are rapidly accumulating quite a collection of stuff!Similarly, all of your food has been determined to be the property of Sengoku Basara 2 -- oh, that doesn't work like it did for the wallet. Okay, they're giving away nice chopsticks along with preorders. Imagine a good joke in there or something.

If there's one thing we'll say about this video for Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, it looks like reloading with the Wii Zapper is going to be a big pain in the rear end. Still, we're excited to play the game and can't wait to have a new title in the Resident Evil franchise to play. If you're one who doesn't mind seeing a large portion of gameplay before the title's release, then hit up the link below to check out some footage.[Via Go Nintendo]

  • Fresh UC screens show Ken doll zombies

Sometimes a zombie is just going to be naked. We've all been there, fighting for our life against a horde of the undead, only to find one or more of them lacking clothes. It's pretty funny for a moment, then we've all got back to the dispatching of the undead. Old hat, we know. But these new Umbrella Chronicles screens are the stuff of nightmares. Naked zombies taking on a sort of doll-like appearance, lacking any kind of gender definition whatsoever? Man, that's all kinds of scary. Oh, and the mutant monkies aren't exactly the stuff of pleasant dreams, either.%Gallery-3286%

  • TGS07: Kohler says Umbrella Chronicles just better without the Zapper

    by
    Alisha Karabinus

    09.21.2007

Some people are all in favor of the Zapper, as we discussed this morning, but Game|Life's Chris Kohler is not among them ... at least, not when it comes to Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. After trying the game several times, he has consistently found that the Zapper is less optimal for this game than the simple naked combination of the Wii remote and nunchuk. At TGS, he was playing co-op with a freelancer who was even excited about the Zapper and its potential with the game. He played without, and she played with -- and halfway through, they switched.Once finished, he asked her which she preferred ... and she agreed with him. The Zapper may end up being great for other games, but in Umbrella Chronicles, it seems to make actions ungainly rather than precise, particularly when one has to reload or pick up objects. This makes us doubly interested in seeing how the shell affects other games, like the pack-in Link's Crossbow Training, but for now, we think we may just stick to the remote and nunchuk. After all, the remote is a pointing device all on its own, and we've seen just how fantastic it can be for shooting.

  • TGS07: Umbrella Chronicles trailer shows Wesker as a zombie?!

At two minutes and nine seconds in, the video shows Wesker as a zombie. Why do we think he's a zombie? Well, his mouth is covered in blood. Wesker's red eyes is something we knew from the conclusion of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, but he wasn't into eating flesh or anything (unless we missed something, which is possible considering how long it's been). As for the rest of the trailer, it's pure gold for Resident Evil fans (we can't wait to bust caps in Nemesis). So, hit it up.

Capcom's new Resident Evil series site contains, yes, some stuff about the new movie and a PS2 bundle or whatever, but also -- BOO! New Umbrella Chronicles video! Right behind you! And by "behind you" we mean "on this website to which we're linking!" It's a regional figure of speech. In addition to the video, you can read about the characters and setting of Umbrella Chronicles (people and places from old Resident Evil games, respectively) and look through a gallery of screenshots. Scary downloads are coming soon, but at the moment that link doesn't do anything. It'll be totally creepy when it does, rest assured.

The look of the upcoming Resident Evil on-rails shooter, Umbrella Chronicles, has grown by leaps and bounds since we first started to see screenshots. The November release dates are fast approaching, so what we're seeing here is probably a lot of what we'll be seeing on our televisions once this hits shelves. We discussed opinions on this title back in April, and it seems like a good time to ask if you're now more (or hey, less, for the haters) excited about this one than you were back then. We've updated the gallery with the latest screens, and the dates embedded with the images allows you to compare shots and see how things have come along since we got our first glimpses of the title. There's also a new trailer tucked away after the break for your viewing pleasure. We just love all the new trailers that surface for game conferences![Top image found here, along with others!]%Gallery-3286%

If there's one thing we can complain about in Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, it's that we've only seen screens and video of the game during its sections involving the mansion from the first Resident Evil. Thanks to some new scans, however, we get some glimpses at the other segments that will make up the game. And, we're excited! The zombies look pretty good, if we may say so.Head past the break for the scans.
