Nintendo's Zelda-themed Game & Watch is a love letter to Link's 8-bit origins
Nintendo just released a 35th-anniversary Legend of Zelda-themed Game & Watch. And like the Super Mario model from last year, it includes a color screen and full games, but the selection is more generous. It includes the original The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, both originally released on the NES. It also includes The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, which came out on the Game Boy in 1993, making this essentially a collection of Zelda’s early 8-bit adventures.

Breath of the Wild's minor characters are likely advanced Miis
For years, fans have theorized that Nintendo used Miis to build many of the NPCs (non-player characters) in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. A Mii expert with the handle HEYimHeroic has discovered that it’s possible to convert and import traditional Miis — the ones that you can craft on the Wii, Wii U, 3DS and Switch — into the game. HEYimHeroic has stressed that the Mii and UMii file formats aren’t identical.
'Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity' is a hack-and-slash 'Breath of the Wild' prequel

'Link's Awakening' on Switch doesn't ruin the formula of an all-time classic
Link's Awakening is a weird Zelda game that wears its quirks on its sleeve. It started life as a port of the SNES title A Link to the Past but morphed into a unique game that debuted on the Game Boy back in 1993. And, 26 years later, it's still an incredibly well-designed action-adventure. Except now it's remade on the Switch, a console that has more than four times the buttons and many more times the power of a Game Boy. Maybe you played Link's Awakening decades ago; perhaps you only started following Link's adventures since The Ocarina of Time or 2017's Breath of the Wild. It doesn't matter: This once-monochrome game holds up.
'Cadence of Hyrule' blends 'Zelda' and beats on June 13th
In March, we learned Cadence of Hyrule - Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda would land on Switch this spring. Today, as part of its E3 2019 announcements, Nintendo revealed the game will arrive this Thursday.
A 'Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' sequel is in development
Nintendo closed out this year's Nintendo Direct as E3 with quite the surprise sneak peek: an early look at the next Legend of Zelda game. While plot details and game play are of course, under wraps, the video showed Link and Zelda exploring a cave and coming upon a desiccated corpse which promptly glows with evil. The preview explicitly called it the sequel to Breath of the Wild. No release date was given, but hopefully we'll hear more throughout the show.
The Link's Awakening Switch remake will let you create dungeons
When The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening remake arrives on Switch on September 20th, you'll have plenty of options to continue enjoying the game aside from the main story. That's because there's a dungeon creation mode that'll let you forge your own fiendish, heart-shaped stage. You can use chambers (essentially pre-made rooms) you earn while playing to build out your dungeon, and you can claim rewards as you play through your creations. Nintendo Labo VR review: Cute, cardboard and kinda boring
Virtual reality devotees scoffed at the introduction of Google Cardboard five years ago: Why would anyone settle for such a limited, feeble-looking piece of paper when "real" headsets were on the horizon? But Cardboard was never about competing with Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. Instead, it was a way to give non-early adopters a low-cost taste of immersive technology. Years later Cardboard has faded into the background as the VR scene has taken off, but Nintendo never forgot about the promise of low-tech VR. Labo VR builds on both the initial ideas of Cardboard and the inaugural Labo sets to create a unique, endearing and most important, playful experience.
Labo VR modes come to 'Super Mario Odyssey' and 'Breath of the Wild'
Still on the fence about Nintendo's latest push into VR? There's one more thing to know about Nintendo Labo VR: it will work with hit Switch titles Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. According to Nintendo you won't have to press it up to your face to replay either game in full, instead updates will enhance each title in different ways. In Breath of the Wild, players can jump in and out of the VR experience at will, while playing the same game as always. In Super Mario Odyssey, however, it will gain three "bite-sized bonus experiences" crossing the Cap, Seaside, and Luncheon Kingdoms. Software updates for both titles will arrive on April 25th, a couple of weeks after the VR kit and its accessories hit shelves on the 12th. Nintendo didn't say whether VR upgrades are planned for any other games, but if the add-on takes off then the potential is certainly there.
'Cadence of Hyrule' for Switch puts a Zelda spin on an indie classic
Hyrule is about to get down. Cadence of Hyrule - Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda (what a mouthful) is heading to the Nintendo Switch this spring. It's a top-down 2D roguelike that infuses the universe of The Legend of Zelda into the rhythmic world of beloved 2015 indie game Crypt of the NecroDancer.
'Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening' gets a second life on Switch
Nintendo had a giant surprise waiting at the end of its latest Direct show: it's remaking The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the Switch. The company shared precious few details, but the brief gameplay demonstration showed that it would preserve the top-down perspective of the Game Boy original. This isn't a Breath of the Wild-style reimagining of the series, then, but it might be ideal for anyone wishing they could play the classic action RPG once again. You can expect it to reach Nintendo's system sometime in 2019.
Nintendo sends Toad to ruin your Christmas with a terrible carol
When it comes to Nintendo characters who you might expect to sing Christmas carols, Toad probably isn't at the top of the list. As adorable as he is in general, the Mushroom Kingdom resident doesn't exactly have a voice best suited to holiday songs.
Bit Brigade, the rock band that plays classic NES games on-stage
Bit Brigade could be more famous if they wanted to be. They're a five-man rock band, but one of their members doesn't play an instrument -- instead, he speedruns through a classic NES game while the remaining four bandmates play its soundtrack, live and completely attuned to the pixelated action projected above the stage. Bit Brigade has a built-in audience of nerds and nostalgia fiends, especially in an era dominated by live streaming, but they don't even have a Twitch channel. There is a YouTube page named "bitbrigade," but it has just four videos, all of which are more than 10 years old.
