Algoriddim's popular mixing app djay is a lesson in mass appeal. If you see yourself playing in clubs and festivals, you'll likely be reaching for software like Serato, or Traktor. But, if you have a phone or a tablet (and a penchant for the old turntable setup, albeit virtual) then djay is an easy choice. So much so that 15 million of you have downloaded it to date. The app broke out of its mobile scheckles some time ago, with a Mac OS X version, for those that wanted to look a little more serious. Today, Algoriddim is hoping to pick up a few more dedicated DJs with the launch of djay Pro, an even more advanced version (also for Mac).

The Pro version comes with the faux-turntables you may already be familiar with, along with other staples like waveforms, effects and MIDI controller compatibility. The bigger news is that djay Pro also brings Spotify integration along with it (a feature the mobile version also enjoys). So, if your sonic weapons of choice are on the streaming service, they're effectively in your record box (assuming you have a subscription, naturally). What else does Algoriddim think will woo professionals? Four virtual decks, new effects (some are in-app purchases), a sampler, drag-and-drop from Spotify/iTunes and a new design, for starters. Interestingly, there's also support Apple's 5K iMac, perhaps not everyone's DJ tool of choice, but hey, never say never. You'll need to drop $70 if you want to get the pro features (a step up from the existing desktop and mobile editions) and a Mac running OS X 10.9, but if you're quick there's an introductory $20 discount. But, given the bank that today's top DJs earn, that's a small investment really. Right?
