Wikipedia edit turns groupie into backstage VIP

Wikipedia edits often get politicians and law enforcement officials into trouble, but a sneaky amendment apparently pays dividends if you're looking to gain access to somewhere you shouldn't. The Guardian reports that Australian man David Spargo successfully snuck into the backstage area of a gig featuring local act Peking Duk after he duped guards with a rather opportune revision.

When Spargo attempted to gain access to the VIP area at the Melbourne event on Wednesday night, he told bouncers that he was related to the electro double act. When asked to prove the connection, he pulled up the Peking Duk page on Wikipedia, which he'd updated to list David Spargo as "family."

"It was probably the most genius, mastermind move that I've ever witnessed," group member Adam Hyde told The Guardian. "It's crazy. He just did it on the spot, in a second on his phone." Spargo introduced himself to the band, who were impressed by his quick thinking.

"We ended up having a bunch of beers with him and he was an absolute legend. He wasn't a creep or anything. He was like the most normal dude we've ever met. That's what makes it more hilarious," said Hyde.

Peking Duk congratulated the invader on Facebook and Twitter accounts using an Anchorman meme:

Spargo later popped up in the Facebook comments to say: "Thanks for the evening lads."
