Engadget Review

Microsoft didn’t just up the style game on the Surface Laptop 2 -- it brought the heat in performance and battery life as well. The speed and battery improvements aren’t as huge as promised, but they’re still significant. A comfortable keyboard, responsive trackpad and brilliant display bring the whole package together nicely. All told, this is one of the best notebooks of the year.

If you're in the market for a laptop, the Surface Laptop 2 is amazing. When you see it in person, it looks like nothing else. The colors are gorgeous and the build quality and design is top-notch. I got the burgundy and it's fantastic. The machine is very svelte and light. The screen is beautiful but more importantly, it's 3:2 aspect ratio which lets you have more information on the screen without having to scroll. The keyboard is fantastic and the touchpad and touchscreen are very responsive. The only true negative is lack of expandability. So buy what you can afford because you can't add RAM, change the storage drive, etc.

Except for the sheer lack of ports, I found this laptop to be the best in the market for this budget and beyond, imho. It is highly portable, very sleek, very sturdy for my movements, quite powerful for my needs and a joy to hold and use. I am in love with this laptop! :D

Simple and good. I am a student in Engineering and the computing power is enough for my daily programming and simulation. Windows 10 is mature enough, smooth to use. Lack of ports is not a problem because I just don't use much. Mouse is not needed since multitouch touch pad is way easier to use. The only thing that can be better is that the keyboard and the fan feels a little bit fragile.

Fast, portable, elegant, luxurious, unique; I can't think of many reasons not to buy a Surface Laptop 2. Contrary to popular belief, the Alcantara is more durable than you think. Yes, it is fabric, but like any fabric, you can clean it easily with some diluted laundry detergent and water. If you follow Microsoft's directions to clean the Alcantara (damp cloth + mild soap) every few months, you can keep the fabric looking good as new. As long as you don't put a sharp knife to it, I can't see why the fabric can't last for five or more years.

No issues. It has been rock solid (which I could not say for the 1st surface laptop). The 256GB SSD performance has been great which was a major problem for my 1st generation model. Overall, I would absolutely recommend it!

I bought the Surface Laptop 2 as a Christmas gift for myself. The build quality is different from any laptop I've owned so it was a bit jarring, but as the days passed and I began to use it, I finally began to understand why it's one of the best laptops you can get. Fast and well built. I no longer need to use my password to log into the laptop and there's no need for a fingerprint scanner, when you've got a device that can read your face lightning fast, from different angles, night or day, with or without a hat on. Also, the laptop is just fast in general. I've got the i5 model with 256GB and it's somehow faster than my work laptop, which is an 8th gen i7 Dell Latitude 7390. The company laptop cost more but feels cheap in comparison. Software - Windows 10 on Surface and Windows 10 on other devices are not the same thing. Microsoft does a great job optimizing their software to work with their hardware. They also provide the option to let OneDrive automatically save things yo place on your Desktop, Documents and Pictures folder, while engaging in some smart storage, freeing up space with files you don't frequently use. The built in speakers sound great, actually. I expect laptop speakers to be awful but these aren't. Typing - No laptop I've used has a better typing experience than the Surface. Final thoughts - It is slippery, so I ordered a dBrand skin, which instantly made me feel better about carrying it around.

For the 1st time in my life I decided to buy a Windows Laptop instead of the latest Macbook Pro. I must say that Microsoft has 'out-Apple'ed' Apple on this one. Amazingly fast, awesome display, touchpad and keyboard. The face recognition works seamlessly and I am logged in before I finish sitting down. Hard to go back to passwords and fingerprint readers after this. The lack of USB-C is not a deal breaker for me as its not ubiquitous enough. The only Con of the Surface Laptop 2 is the charging connector which feels cheap, flimsy, plasticky and falls off easily even when compared to Apple's old Magsafe which had a sturdy premium feel.
