Engadget Review

Microsoft's Surface with Windows 8 Pro is the best tablet running Windows 8 we've yet seen, but still feels like a compromise when used as a tablet or laptop.

Score Breakdown

Average Critic Score

PC World
Microsoft's latest Windows tablet packs a powerful Intel Kaby Lake chip and Iris Plus GPU inside, though a high price tag and disappointing battery life hinder it somewhat.

80
CNET
Microsoft's flagship Surface Pro gets an extremely conservative update, but better battery life keeps it the gold standard of Windows hybrid PCs -- for now.

70
T3
A highly impressive piece of hardware that is less than the sum of its tablet/laptop parts.

80
The Verge
Between its battery life improvements and the enhancements to the pen experience that have been added to Windows 10, the new Surface Pro is ready for the mainstream.

90
Digital Trends
The Surface Pro is simply the best 2-in-1 around. It’s expensive, but worth it for its excellent design, build quality, and components.

CNBC
I'm not knocking Microsoft's form factor. I think it works really well, and I applaud Microsoft for continuing to develop and sell new hardware. The Surface Pro just seems unnecessarily expensive.

80
Pocket-Lint
The new Surface Pro shows how far Microsoft has come with the series. It's a really well made and great performing Windows device. Even in the Core i7 form of this review model it's approaching silent in operation, thanks to seventh-generation Intel Kaby Lake processors, which is fantastic.

80
Stuff
The refreshed Surface is an evolution rather than an entirely new lifeform, but it remains the class leader.

The Telegraph
Marked improvements to battery life will please loyal buyers, but the Surface Pro came across as a sequel rather than a franchise reboot. On its own merits it remains a great buy, if you feel you need it.

90
SlashGear
Microsoft is well in the swing of things here. With the improvements made on top of a now well-solidified track record for hardware reliability, the Surface Pro is a home run for Microsoft in 2017.
