A forgettable product. It isn't bad, exactly, but also doesn't do anything particularly well. - Engadget

I bought the Elite back in February as a treat for myself and because I was informed if I wanted to continue receiving games for gifts my old Xbox and Gamecube were not going to cut it any more. I've been very pleased with this console so far, not only does it have a great library of software titles, but it can also be used as a media extender for your PC. The only reason I didn't rate this unit a 10 is because 1) Microsoft made the somewhat puzzling decision to omit wireless networking from the console, wanting you to shell out $80 to $100 for a device to plug into your usb port (it can be done cheaper with an older router and the DD-WRT firmware). 2) It could stand to support more CODECS for media playback. A lot has been said about the RROD's but frankly, most people I've talked to in person that have owned these consoles have only experienced this problem with the older generations, the newer ones seemed to have fixed these problems. If your looking for a good game system, your not going to go wrong with this one (though to be fair, your not going to go wrong with the Wii or the Playstation 3 either, though the Playstation 3 is a bit more money than I can stomach paying for a game console).

Having this system since launch day, I have been able to experience the roller coaster ride this system has been. The graphics are great, Xbox live is fantastic and the game library is huge. The downfall has been the downtime waiting for the machine to come back from repairs and the cost associated with it.5 days after initial purchase, I suffered the red ring and had to send it in. 4 days later, I did receive the unit back, however, to my surprise, it was a scratched unit with a different serial. A refurb basically. Kinda stinks to get a refurbed unit 5 days after spending almost $500 for a new one and some accessories. Oh well.In the years to follow, I had several repairs done. two optical drives, and another red light error, but not the red ring. I paid in total about $300 in repairs. In the time I have used it, it has been a great time and one of the best consoles I have owned. There are real quality titles that are released for the console and playing those online with friends is always priceless. The newer system seems to have ironed out this systems issues and reinstated the faith in the Xbox brand.Overal, if it were not for the issues, this would have easily been a 9/10

I <3 the Xbox. Downside is noise and chance for RRoD.
