Is that the sound of Satan sharpening his skates? According to a new interview with Team Xbox, 3D Realms boss George Broussard implies that – dare we say? – development of Duke Nukem Forever is going along swimmingly. You know, just like it has been since ... 1998.All most kidding aside, Broussard tells the site that the developer has "several hours of fairly polished game to play," and that, "It's fun, it's in focus, we know what bits are fun and which are not, and it's just a matter of time now." But clearly, time moves a little slower in 3D Realms', er ... realm. Given that the company has already denied reports that it's coming this year, we'll have to make due with Duke Nuken 3D on XBLA "sometime in September." Of 2008. Really. Promise.[Via Big Download]

During an interview with 3D Realms' George Broussard about the XBLA port of Duke Nukem 3D, Team Xbox took it upon itself to ask what's going on with Duke Nukem Forever. In response, Broussard stated that the project is "going really well" and that "There are several hours of fairly polished game to play." Broussard added further that the game is undergoing testing and that "things are coming together," saying, "It's fun, it's in focus, we know what bits are fun and which are not, and it's just a matter of time now." Broussard concluded by saying he's "probably never been as happy or excited" about Duke Nukem Forever as he is right now. We'd like to share the sentiment, but at this point we are all but numb to Duke Nukem Forever. Here's hoping we change our tune when the game releases, which may not be too far away if Broussard's comments are anything to go by.[Via Big Download]

With all the Duke Nukem 3D news trickling in over the past few weeks, we know a lot about the game including some of the new additions, release date and even the game's achievements, but we really haven't seen the game in action or how the new rewind / video share features will work ... until now. Shacknews posted a quick and dirty Duke Nukem 3D hands-on writeup including video footage of the game menus, game footage and the two new features. All we can say is that those who suffered from Marathon motion sickness will probably become woozy after playing Duke on the XBLA. Yum, yum! [Via 3D Realms]

With it's September release already but solidified, we just learned that Duke Nukem 3D for the Xbox Live Arcade will also be sporting some new film saving features. According to a Microsoft representative at X08, Duke 3D will include both gameplay rewind and saved film video features. The rewind option will allow players to "undo" mistakes (like dying) or go back to a point earlier in the game, whereas the saved film feature will (expectedly) allow players to record and share Duke 3D multiplayer videos with gamers. Two interesting game additions that we totally didn't see coming, but are welcomed none the less. Two features we'd also like another Duke game to incorporate, somehow.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/xbox/XBLA_Duke_adds_saved_films_rewind_feature'; According to a Microsoft representative at X08 in Toronto, Duke Nukem 3D will include two new features when it releases "sometime in September": A saved film and gameplay rewind feature. As explained by the rep, the rewind function allows players to rewind a portion of the game if they had a particularly enthralling firefight with LARD troops or to undo any major mistakes (e.g. including death). The saved film feature works as you would imagine: Players are able to take saved clips from multiplayer and share them online with friends. With this much new content added for an Arcade release Duke Nukem might just become popular again. Someone should really look into releasing a new game in that series ... oh, wait.

Speaking to Joystiq, Xbox representative Jason Ing has revealed that Duke Nukem 3D should hit the Xbox Live Arcade service "sometime in September." For those keeping score, September starts in just over a week. Ing reconfirmed that the game has passed certification and also revealed that the game will be published by Microsoft. Duke Nukem 3D is set to include minimal graphical enhancements akin to what was seen with the XBLA port of Doom. Frankly, we don't care what it looks like as long as it has shrink rays and deathmatch.

In an interview with Xbox representative Jason Ing, it was revealed to Joystiq that Duke Nukem 3D, developed by 3D Realms, has passed certification and is expected to release "sometime in September." The Xbox Live Arcade revival, which sports the same minimal graphical enhancements as Doom did on the service, is being published by Microsoft and is an exclusive release for the platform.

After blogging about the Duke Nukem 3D achievements yesterday and the whole ESRB rating thing, we finally bent them into submission! 3D Realms just officially confirmed that Duke Nukem 3D for the Xbox Live Arcade is in fact a reality (uhh, duh?) and that it has already passed Microsoft's certification process. Celebratory high five! Though, they're keeping their release date, pricing and game feature cards close to their chest. But 3D Realms promises us that Duke 3D previews should be making their way onto the internets sometime next week and also mentions that OXM's October issue has plenty of juicy Duke bits. Duke Nukem 3D ... it's really real! [Thanks, Kyle C]

Cigar-chomping testosterone factory foiling alien invasion news now, with word that the Duke Nukem game you've all been waiting for -- again -- may be arriving imminently. Speaking to Shacknews, 3D Realms' George Broussard has confirmed that the Xbox Live Arcade version of Duke Nukem 3D has defeated the development galaxy's most dreaded scourge, the Microsoft certification process. "We officially passed final cert on our first try Friday, August 15th," said Broussard, also revealing that the game is due for release "soon." Though we've yet to see convincing evidence that 3D Realms employees are familiar with that last word's meaning, we'll give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to a game they've at least managed to complete once before. No price has been announced yet, but Broussard noted that it would be "about what you'd expect." Meanwhile, be sure to check out the list of Duke Nukem 3D's Xbox 360 Achievements, which reward players for tipping strippers and stepping in poo.

Even with an ESRB rating, some leaked XBLM screenshots and a hint from 3D Realms themselves that it'll be releasing soon, we still don't have any concrete XBLA Duke Nukem 3D release details. It's sad, really. But now we can add achievements to our war chest of Duke Nukem 3D proof, because a complete list of all twelve achievements has made its way to the internets today. Complete with artwork too! You can view the list over at Achieve360Points.com, but be mindful of where you step. You wouldn't want to unlock the "Looks Like Cleanup on Aisle 4" achievement while navigating the internets for Duke Nukem 3D news, now would you?

You can officially peel off that vaporware label and stick it to another game, because Duke Nukem 3D for the XBLA (not Forever, it still keeps its vaporware label) just ninja-received a rating from the ESRB. The still to be officially confirmed XBLA release of Duke 3D was recently given a Mature rating by the ESRB due to its "Blood and Gore, Strong Sexual Content and Violence" to which we say ... BRING IT! Now we just have to play the XBLA release date waiting game, though we're pretty darn sure we won't see it release anytime in August.

So ... huh? After sitting through the above four minutes of explosions, nuclear symbols and flashing lights, we have learned nothing about the upcoming Duke Nukem Trilogy for the DS. Quite frankly, this isnt the kind of trailer you want to show at E3, when countless other videos opt to show gameplay footage and new details. Also, four minutes long? Sure, there's a bit of metal rocking out there, but wouldn't we rather watch a music video instead of the words Critical Mass and Proving Grounds blasting all over the screen? You bet.The rest of the Fanboy team thinks this irritable blogger is missing the joke of the (clearly satirical) trailer. They are probably right.

Apogee Software, a one-time forerunner of shareware titles, is back. According to a press release, the company has reached an "exclusive agreement" with 3D Realms and MachineWorks Northwest LLC to release Duke Nukem Trilogy to the "handheld console market." The brand new game includes episodes Critical Mass, Chain Reaction and Proving Grounds. No other details are available. Even though 3D Realms is still legally named Apogee Software, the two companies' relationship is unclear. In the press release, Apogee describes itself as "back to re-establish itself as an innovative leader in interactive entertainment." With new, actual Duke Nukem Release Technology©, we'd be hard to argue.

The word "badass" means many things to many people. It could be an idea, a concept, a frame of mind. It could be the way Reggie Fils-Aime talks. So many definitions, each of them slightly incorrect. The only universally accepted definition of "badass" can be summed up in one name: Duke Nukem.Apogee Software is kicking into gear and throwing three hard-fightin' missions together in one package, known as the Duke Nukem Trilogy. We had an inkling that Duke would be arriving sometime soon, and it probably wasn't going to be some port of Duke Nukem 3D. The press release is annoyingly light on the details, merely making the announcement and philosophical tirades about "what's old is new again." Does this mean the Trilogy will be just a collection of the old 2D shooters, or perhaps a batch of new levels? Apogee isn't telling, or they're being extremely hazy about it. We'll let you know, because the Duke must be acknowledged in all his forms. Update: Turns out Apogee is telling just a little bit. On their official website, a few details have surfaced about the three missions in the Trilogy: Critical Mass, Chain Reaction and Proving Grounds. The game features 9 worlds, 36 levels, 3D "accelerated" graphics and 3D characters. Meaning, it'll probably be a side-scroller, but it'll look snazzy. Nothing wrong with that at all. Finally, we can look forward to five different styles of gameplay, a multiplayer component and "Total Ass-Kicking Weapons." Right on! [Via press release]

Duke Nukem 3D. Long rumored to be heading to the Xbox Live Arcade when, back in January, rumor-word told us that Duke would be gracing the XBLA in a "few months". A few months passed, then a few more and even a few more and still we have no Duke Nukem 3D (cough, vaporware, cough). But wait, what's this? Two new screenshots sent to Joystiq by a tipster showcasing the Duke gracing the Arcade. With co-op mentioned in an achievement description too? Yummy yum! It's rumor for now, but we have a hunch that the XBLA Duke will steer clear of the vaporware bin. Though, the same cannot be said for the other Duke.

click to embiggen The last we heard from Duke Nukem 3D on Xbox Live, it was "several months away" as of January ... well that time has come and passed with nothing to show for it. Now comes two new pictures from "SV" that purportedly reveal his Dukeness in the Xbox Live Arcade system, with some achievement icons and, in the second picture, 25 points for completing L.A. Meltdown on any difficult in co-op. So Duke Nukem 3D is gunning for XBLA with co-op? We're not convinced by these pictures, but our imaginations are running wild. We've placed the second picture after the break; consider this a rumor.

  • DNF dev calls E3 'irrelevant,' kettle black

Please ignore the noise coming from the kitchen, dear readers. That's just a little pot called 3D Realms calling next month's kettle of a conference, the E3 Media and Business Summit, black. Scott Miller, the head honcho at the Texas-based dev, recently spoke out against the annual event in hilarious fashion, calling the gathering "irrelevant" while confirming that 3D Realms' perpetually-delayed Duke Nukem Forever would not be shown. Shocking!"In fact," he added. "I wasn't even aware it was coming up." On the one hand, we're left agape at the sheer irony of his words. On the other hand, however, this is coming from a company whose primary contribution to the industry is the poster child for inconsequential flotsam so – keeping that in mind – it seems reasonable that 3D Realms knows 'irrelevant' when it sees it.

Oh that crazy Duke has popped up yet again, kicking ass and chewing bubblegum as only he can. At least, that's what we think he's doing. Truthfully, it's pretty hard to tell from the latest tiny screenshot to emerge from the ever-elusive Duke Nukem Forever, which has surfaced on 3D Realms' site as part of a plea for developers to join the company's cause. As for the Duke, looking at the screenshot we like to imagine that he's running to the grocery store, probably to pick up a pack of Stride. After all, the ridiculously long lasting flavor will serve our hero well while he, like the rest of us, continues to wait.

So, let's just get this out of the way: We sort of dig former Monolith boss Jace Hall's new show. Well, more specifically, we dig Jace Hall, but we could do without some of the trappings of overproduction that surround him. But Jace? He's aces. See for yourself right after the break.Moving on, we think we speak for the whole internet when we say "OMG WE TOTALLY JUST SAW DUKE NUKEM FOREVER." More shocking? The 30 seconds or so we see in the video (it starts at about 4:15) actually looks pretty decent, even though we'll be the first to admit that watching a game via shaky cam over a bald dude's shoulder isn't the most optimal way to judge this sort of thing. So, it's been 26 years in development, what do you guys think of it?

The very first episode of The Jace Hall Show is now live, and it includes the impossible: footage of Duke Nukem Forever. The segment with 3D Realms begins at 2:33, and we can honestly say that we appreciate host Jace Hall for asking the team "What the f*uck is taking so long?" The real fun, however, begins at 4:18, when we actually get a tiny glimpse of the game in action. Fans of Duke Nukem 3D will notice plenty of things from the original game, including some of the classic weapons. Specifically, there is footage of the shrink ray including the ever important moment when Duke crushes his recently debigulated foe. Hall concludes by saying, "I saw it. They have been working. It's not a myth. You're going to be pleased."Let's hope so.Update: Find the (autoplaying) video after the break. Sorry 'bout that.
