You saw them in the keynote today, now watch them again in the privacy of your own home: the new iPod touch and iPod nano television ads are live on Apple.com and on Apple's YouTube channel. "All kinds of fun," indeed. (If you're a fan of NBC's Chuck, like some of us are, you may appreciate that Cake's Short Skirt/Long Jacket -- the show's theme song -- is featured in the new nano ad.) • WRUP: Cake or pie edition

Every week, just at the start of the weekend, we catch up with the WoW.com staff and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game -- and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too! This week in addition to the eternal question of what everyone is playing this weekend, we've asked the staff the almost-as-eternal question of cake or pie or death? It's been a battle royale in The Queue this week with Anne declaring her love for pie and Adam followed up with a cake versus pie poll in which cake maintains a solid lead. So today, we ask our writers. Their thoughts on the best bakery confections along with what they're playing for the weekend after the break.

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today. While my colleague Anne Stickney might like a tasty pie, I prefer a succulent cake instead. Why, do you ask? Because it's made of fluffy goodness topped with cream. So let's take a poll and show Anne that cake > pie. %Poll-49523% Hal asked ... "What's the good word these days on racial powers and features? Have the dwarves gotten something to replace Find Treasure yet?"

As I write this, I am dreading the week to come. After many months of going back and forth on the matter, I have decided to leave my guild for greener pastures. I'm reluctant to leave, though, since I do like my current guild; the people are nice, the raids are fun and we have a raiding philosophy of "work with what you've got" that I have always enjoyed. Still, for everything that I love, there are shortcomings and I am willing to risk losing what I have to see if my perfect guild exists somewhere out there. So off I go to a new guild and server where I know no one. I'm scared -- scared I won't be good enough, scared they won't like me even if I am and scared I might be making a huge mistake in leaving my friends. You just have to swallow those kinds of thoughts, though. As a raider, I'm no stranger to moving around, and I've come up with many ways to deal with it. One thing I do to cope is heading up to the spot you see in the picture before I transfer. This is my favorite hiding spot in the game, only accessible by players meticulous enough to complete the Higher Learning achievement. Up here, I will sit and eat some cake, then after I've had my fill, set out my little green rag doll on the bed and /sleep. The reason for this is so that when I log back in after my transfer has gone through, I know exactly where I'll be and I can pretend I'm waking up from a dream (or nightmare) to a new, promising day. I'm not sure why I do this; maybe the familiarity? It's really all quite silly, but I've been doing it for well over a year now and it seems natural. Do you have any strange habits or rituals you do in game?

We have a winner for our art contest for Travels Through Azeroth and Outland, Destron's amazing fan-fic serial. The author selected this piece sent by submitter Mitch Death to appear in the fan-fic blog. Travels Through Azeroth transports readers to Azeroth and Outland as seen through the eyes of itinerant traveller Destron the mage. This ongoing, lore-based tale is deep -- deep enough in quantity to have accumulated years' worth of entries, and deep enough in content to be recommended by TVTropes.com. We've included large versions of both of Mitch's submissions, plus my own personal favorite (from reader Raymond Liang), in the mini-gallery below. %Gallery-92528% More creative tidbits from our talented readers, after the break.

  • Spiritual Guidance: Holy 101

Every Sunday (and the occasional weekday) Spiritual Guidance offers holy and discipline priests advice on how to wield the holy light and groove to the disco night. Your hostess Dawn Moore will provide the music. There is this priest trial in my guild right now. He applied as a discipline priest but what we were looking for at the time was a holy priest. Unfortunately, he doesn't know how to play holy, so I'm exploiting my veteran status and making him learn it. Coincidentally, the big bosses also want all of us here at WoW.com to work on these 101 columns, so this kills two anything-but-birds with one stone. I really like birds, by the way. The following is meant to be an introductory guide to the priest holy tree. It is not going to tell you what to do step by step (at least not until you get to the enchants section) instead it intends to show you some options from which you can get started. If you're already a veteran holy priest, feel free to add anything I left out in the comments so readers who use this column as a resource can get as much help as possible.

There's nothing sweeter than finding a way to fold one passion into another. Maybe that's why we love Warcraft cakes so much? Of course, it could be as simple as the intersection of good taste and tastes good. Yeah, that's it. This week, World of WarCrafts brings you a virtual patisserie of WoW delectables. First up, we visit with another winner from Blizzard's Holiday Dessert Contest. Next, we'll show you how they celebrate weddings in Mulgore (hint: it's all cake, baby). Admit it: You thought murlocs were spineless little critters, didn't you? Take a peek inside our gallery, below, and you'll see that even this sweet little fellow boasts his share of backbone -- literally. World of WarCrafts visited with Bradley Barger (aka Monmanteau of US Stormreaver), one of the winners of this year's WoW Holiday Dessert Contest, for a taste of the inspiration behind his winning creation. What we discovered beneath this little guy's skin (a backbone of steel!) was more spine than we ever expected from a murloc. The creation is based around a metal armature, which Bradley covered with cereal-based cake and butter cream, then finished with fondant for a smooth texture. The spines are made from colored sugar, melted and cut to shape. The pond water is fashioned from a high-temperature molten sugar mixture, poured it into a frame of fondant. %Gallery-81316% Continue past the break for an interview with Bradley on how he cooked up this sweet success.

Neth has posted an announcement for Blizzard's annual dessert contest, and... wait, dessert contest? I don't remember them doing that one before, but sure enough, they have. I guess it follows after the pumpkin carving contest. Anyway, yes, your task, should you choose to accept it, is to make a confectionary creation based on one of Blizzard's big franchises, and submit a picture of it to them over on the site. Each of ten winners will get seven different Warcraft books, including the popular Rise of the Horde and Arthas novels. You have until December 21st at midnight, so get cooking! And if you do make a nice Warcraft cake, be sure to send us a copy (if the rules allow), so we can add it to our gallery below. Good luck to everyone who enters the contest, we can't wait to see what kind of sweets you cook up. %Gallery-31459%

  • Super Mario Galaxy cake is out of this world

Loyal Joystiq reader Alex sent us an image of a gorgeous Super Mario Galaxy-inspired cake his wife made, and the finished product looks delicious. Made for the son of a family friend, the crafty design features Nintendo's legendary hero mid-confrontation with his arch-enemy, Bowser. If the cake doesn't tickle your fancy, maybe the story behind it will. According to Alex, his wife wasn't familiar with the game so he picked up a copy for "research" purposes. So guys and gals, if you're looking for a way to get your significant other interested in video games, try to use their love of baked goods as an excuse to introduce games into the relationship. The results may be delicious. [Thanks, Alex]

Show us how you express yourself; contact our tips line (attention: World of WarCrafts) with your not-for-profit, WoW-inspired creations. Not that you really needed more sweets, this close to the hip-padding holiday season -- but these cupcakes from Gixx of Natural Order on US-Farstriders-H look sweet enough to tempt the Alliance into developing a taste for the Horde, don't you think? "I am new to fondant," Gixx confessed to us, "but it's honestly just fancy Play-Doh. You spend a few years as a kid making fake food with that stuff, you learn a few tricks. I did learn that a paper printout of the Horde symbol will stick to the fondant and make a huge mess, so I had to use an X-Acto knife to slice it out of some thin, clear plastic. That left me with a reusable stencil that I then cut around the fondant with." Other advice from the chef: Frost normally before decorating for bonus to +taste. Keep fondant covered and sealed until you're ready to use it. Keep the finished cupcakes covered, too, so they stay soft and yummy. For the Horde! • This is the story of New Super Mario Bros. Wii

We know many Joystiq readers don't want to read spoilers on the site. That's why, for your sake, we've carefully posted the intro movie to New Super Mario Bros. Wii after the break. The upcoming 2D platformer returns the series to its roots, but adds a number of features that make it "new" -- it says so on the box. New power-ups and the addition of multiplayer radically change the feel of NSMBW, but we're not sure if gamers are prepared for the revolutionary new story featured in this latest adventure. Check it out after the break. [Via GoNintendo]

With LittleBigPlanet's first birthday coming up, it won't be long until Sackboy grows up and turns into acne-riddled, smelly, moody Sackteen. Before he joins Myspace and listens to Linkin Park, enjoy these precious moments by grabbing a free birthday cake costume from the PlayStation Store this Thursday, November 5th. If Sackboy's edible outfit wasn't good enough for you (selfish!), Media Molecule has upped the ante just a little bit: the launch-exclusive Spacesuit costume will also be made free for all this week. The spacesuit will certainly come in handy when traveling underwater in the new LBP levels that are coming up. [Thanks, Pumapayam!]

  • Giant iPhone wedding cake threatens to devour us all

Or maybe it was devoured first? Jerry Brito emailed a link to his wedding cake photos, made by the good folks at Charm City Cakes. It's an astoundingly accurate rendering of an iPhone save one thing our own Dave Caolo spotted: four bars on AT&T? Wishful thinking, although in the context of a wedding cake, maybe it's a good signal. This is neither the first nor the last cake done as Apple gear, although it is certainly one of the best. But Charm City does nothing halfway, which you know if you've ever seen the show 'Ace of Cakes' on Food Network. Congratulations to Jerry and his wife!

  • 2v2 team hits 3206 team rating, 3585 personal rating

    by
    C. Christian Moore

    09.12.2009

A 2v2 team on US-Ruin has somehow achieved an unheard-of 3206 team rating. Paper Cut Your Eyelids' team leader is Cäke, a Blood Elf Priest in three-piece Deadly, one-piece Furious Gladiator gear. His Orc partner, Kwamo, a nearly full Furious Assassination Rogue, has somehow amassed a 3585 personal rating on the curiously successful team. This is pretty amazing when you consider the highest 2v2 team last season was rated below 3000. Red flags are going up over this one, folks. The team has a strangely unimpressive win ratio of 82-71. If each of their losses brought the team down 0 points, (which we know is untrue from their match history), each of their wins would average out to slightly greater than ~39 points per win. As they are nearly 400 team rating above the next highest team on the battlegroup, one would assume their gains would decrease dramatically the higher they ascend.

  • Warhammer cake bites into Food Network

A post about a game-related cake can only mean one thing, right? It's a slow news day. Normally, we would agree, but this one is special for a couple of reasons. First of all, Joystiq was actually contacted by a PR company about this cake, so we're guessing it must be a slow PR day, too. Second, this particular cake pretty much leaves all others in the dust. Modeled after a squig and created for Warhammer Online's Baltimore Games Day booth, the cake is to be featured on Food Network's Ace of Cakes this Thursday, August 27. According to chef Duff Goldman, it's the best cake ever made on the show. Goldman also contributed to the world of strange size comparisons, noting that the cake is "about the size of large sheepdog." Frankly, the cake looks like it could eat a large sheepdog.Only one question: How do you cut it?

Joystiq reader Charles was married recently, and he sent us word that his new wife surprised him with a very special groom's cake. We have dubbed it the XCake 360. It comes complete with 120SB (sprinkle-bite) hard drive and a wireless cake-troller. We're also guessing it's not a launch cake, as it clearly hasn't yet suffered the Red Ring of Death. Still, we get the feeling it probably didn't last much longer than moments after this picture was taken. The cake also has an Achievement pop-up on top which reads: "Achievement Unlocked: Until Death Do Us Part." Now, Charles, comes one of the most important decisions for a newly married couple: Separate or joint Xbox Live accounts?
