  • TiVo takes the cake at San Francisco wedding

Although we can't be certain if Andy and Tina Szeto attended a Wii marriage counseling session before tying the knot, the television crazed couple did invite a healthy helping of TiVo to join in their matrimonial celebration. Granted, they did stop short of rocking interactive wedding attire, but the two lovebirds did indeed have a pair of his and her TiVo cakes proudly perched beside the more traditional rendition, and to show its appreciation, TiVo actually donated a plethora of smiling plush dolls as party favors. Not to be sold short, the company also gave each member in attendance their own felt TiVo ears for maximum geekness all around, and created quite the marketing scene in the process. Hey, we've definitely seen worse cakes at a shindig before, so click on through for more pictures of the obsessive ceremony.

We can imagine coaxing anyone into marriage must be quite the ordeal, but to get your soon-to-be wife to agree on having a Nintendo-themed cake is a task that must be accomplished by slipping some sort of unmarked pill into her drink and drafting up a series of contracts. Seriously, what wife would agree to that? A pretty awesome one, we suppose ...See also: Have your cake and eat it

Talk about a supportive fiance, Flickr user Cakecraft baked a massive Alliance cake for her soon-to-be husband in honor of his new guild. It took her over 20 hours of grinding to get this sucker finished, and "is the equivalent of seven 9"x13" cakes." Wow, indeed. She does give a shoutout to the makers of the Horde cake, which inspired her. Don't bother checking the taverns around Ironforge for this one, although she might make you one for enough gold.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gaming_news/Awesome_WoW_themed_Alliance_gamer_cake'; Not to be outdone by the seemingly plentiful cakemaking skills of the Horde, reader Meekrob (he's also the guild leader of Relic on Area 52) sent us these pictures of an Alliance-themed cake made by his fiance who, as he says "rocks, not unlike a hurricane."Definitely a good looking cake, and the "double chocolate" inside looks pretty tasty too. The lion and the eagles almost look too solid to be edible, but apparently it's all good eating, so great job, Meekrob's fiance! I can't imagine where we'd go next with this-- an ice cream sword? Or maybe, like Westfall Stew, we'll see some real-life Ravager Dogs...

It's time to find out who took home the last of the loot from our 3rd Birthday Giveaway -- including our grand prize OQO Model 02. The scores of delicious gadget-themed cakes that our loyal readers cooked up in honor of little old us definitely made this an agonizing contest to judge -- and not just because we didn't even get to eat any our own birthday cakes. But we did finally settle on some winners though, so click on to check out the top cakes (and hit the read link to see our full gallery)!

Us American gamers only received one new game this week, one we don't find ourselves interested in that much. Personally, we've been busy playing a little game called Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales. Now that we've gone and reviewed it, though, we're looking to get ourselves back to playing something new. We never got really far into Hotel Dusk, so maybe we'll go back to playing that this weekend. But, enough about us! What are you playing this weekend? Previous posts: What were you playing?

There's already enough video game cakes on the internet to give you a mouth full of cavities, but we couldn't pass on a slice of this dual-screened dessert from Patrick and his girlfriend, Zara. The UK couple celebrated Mother's Day yesterday by baking this treat for Patrick's mom, a 60-year-old gamer. The attention to detail is impressive, taking into account a matching stylus, icing-covered screenshots, and even a red battery light! Every single curve and recess on an actual Nintendo DS Lite is mirrored on the cake, ready to be gobbled up. It's going to be tough for other video game desserts to meet the standard Patrick and Zara have set.

Other games blogs may have recently sworn off games cakes, but here at Joystiq this still looks delicious. Then again, this blogger does have a soft spot for vanilla icing. We're not sure where the floating head of a Rayman Raving Rabbids bunny fits into the culture of edible fandom, but can't you just hear him singing his off-key Christmas carol, begging to be smacked across the face?Actually, this bunny has his own Flickr set. See how he emerged from box art, to tin foil hunk, to tasty, screaming glory. Thanks, Jason!

We've seen plenty of cakes shaped into Wii remotes and even the Wii console itself before, but a classic controller cake? That's a new one for us! A thoughtful girlfriend treated her gamer paramour with this chocolate dessert for his 21st birthday. We're not sure if he will be able to actually play Virtual Console games with it, but he'll have to find a Wii remote cake to hook the controller onto first before we can find out![Via Digg]

Via Livejournal, here's another WoW cake-- lottie says she made it for her boyfriend's birthday, but the URL on the pic goes to a site where there's all kinds of nerdy cakes to check out.The cake depicts the gates outside Orgrimmar, of course, and apparently everything there is edible (and sugary): "chocolate and vanilla sponges with mars bar mini rolls, matchmaker chocolates, jaffa cakes and chocolate finger biscuit and chocolate chip logs." This is the second amazing Horde cake we've seen-- where's your delicious cake skills at, Alliance?

This is certainly the best WoW-themed edible item I've seen yet. What impresses me is that even the wood-looking part of the shield is edible -- that can't have been easy. Apparently the person who made this has a habit of making awesome cakes, which makes sense; you wouldn't expect a cake this nice from a noob cakester. She's been dating a WoW player, and made him this for his birthday. I wish my girlfriend was this supportive of my WoW habit...At any rate, head over to flickr for a few more photos, including really big ones if you want to print out a life-sized version and pretend. Seen any other good cakes lately?[thanks, Nelson]

See what you've done, Steve? You've gotten people so whipped up in a froth over your new phone that they're actually baking cakes in its visage. Same with the Mac mini, but it's safe to say that's probably not the first Mac mini cake that's come to be. Now, if you're really into gadget-themed cakes, we'd like to remind you that a little less than a year ago we held a cake contest, remember? Hope you're getting your recipes ready, we may just do another this year.[Via Digg]Read - iPhone cakeRead - Mac mini cake

  • Make your own iPhone, out of cake or LEGO

It would seem that some people just can't want to get their fingers on an iPhone (I'm looking at you, Dan). If you are a little crafty you can make yourself a placeholder iPhone to get you over the hump. Try this iPhone cake, which I am sure is much more delicious than Apple's iPhone (and I have it on good authority that the cake does not require a 2 year Cingular contract). If you aren't a baker, why not whip up a LEGO iPhone? You know you want to (well, I know I want to and I assume we have similar interests).[LEGO iPhone via brilliantdays]

  • Cake text printer doesn't speak Italian, pens errors instead

While we doubt we've seen every single computing error that could possibly occur, there's definitely been a fair amount to surface, and while this story may not take the proverbial cake, it's good for a hearty chuckle if nothing else. Apparently, a certain Aunt Elsa was supposed to receive a custom baked (and messaged) cake from Wegmans Grocery to celebrate her birthday, and as the part-English, part-Italian message was emailed into Wegmans presumably automated printing machine, a bit of miscommunication ensued. Sure, it makes sense that the machine might not have been ready (or programmed) to handle languages outside of English, but surely someone actually looked at this thing before sending it out, right? Nevertheless, Aunt Elsa was graced with a cake that just barely got the whole "birthday" message across, and we presume even the supportEmptyParas tasted mighty sweet going down.[Via BoingBoing]

Mmmmm, cake. We've seen some impressive gamer cakes, but the crew over at You NEWB compiled a ten layer list of frosting covered confectionary goodness. Sure, we've covered the Super Mario cake before, but #2 pays homage to sibling site Engadget. The pictures are cool, but it would be nice to actually find out how to make these things. Cake post 2.0: How to design what you see. Any geek cake makers in the house? How we long for an homage to us in cake form ... yummy, yummy cake.

Everyone loves cake. If you don't ... well, don't tell us, and we won't have to take you out back and beat you with green pipes. These cakes, however, are decadent creations that only a gamer could truly love, and Nintendo makes up almost half the entries on You Newb's list of ten game-themed cakes. What's up with the DS cake and Katamari, though? Katamari's got no love for us. We're sad.But we'd still eat it. And your little Wii cake, too.And hey, look -- our buddies at Engadget got featured on a cake, too. Does that make them sort of sugary celebrities?

The blue dude with an attitude turned fifteen years old yesterday and he celebrated at NYC's DigitalLife show. Fans and confused onlookers watched as Sonic was presented a ridiculously large birthday cake by psuedo-celebrity Lacey Chabert. Hungry attendees of the show (myself included) scarfed down the cake, and laughed at the man inside the Sonic suit, knowing it was impossible for him to blow out the candles on his cake, let alone eat it. Sonic, the cake was delicious. When questioned about how it felt to be 15, Sonic responded, "It's strange. I'm growing hair in places I've never had hair before." He then sped away and, like in his upcoming Xbox 360 game, my camera was unable to follow him. Read on to see more pictures, and video from the celebration.

This incredible three-tiered Mario-themed wedding cake was the big surprise at Brent Gustafson's wedding. His bride-to-be planned the cake, keeping it a secret until just before its unveiling. The entire creation -- short of the cake toppers -- was entirely edible. That means piranha plants, mushroom, everything. While the cake toppers weren't edible, they weren't easy to come by. They're part of the "Mario Family" series from Club Nintendo in Japan, only available by redeeming points from Japanese Nintendo products. If they knew about our Gears of War contest, we're pretty sure the cake's Flickr entry would take the, uh ... you know. • Have your cake and eat it too -- Cake Mania for the DS

Originally an online treasure, Cake Mania tells the tale of Jill, a recent graduate from culinary school, who returns home to find her grandparents bakery closed thanks to the new neighborhood Wal-Mart Mega-Mart. Jill, in order to save the family business, must bake up a storm of cakes and manage the store to keep customers coming. The DS version will feature the same cake baking madness along with an expansion titled Back to the Bakery. Cake Mania is scheduled to release in 2007 and sounds like it could start a new craze of bringing popular online games to the DS.
