  • Man makes his own Martha Stewart Wii cake, appears on her show

Remember when Martha made that Wii cake? Well, Brian Walak from Massachusetts decided he would try to make his very own cake, one that is actually edible (yup, nobody could eat Martha's) and he succeeded, taking it to a bake sale. If you're interested in making your own, the ingredients are provided.[Via Joystiq]

"Everything inside is eatable, I mean edible, I mean you can eat everything." - Gene Wilder, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate FactoryDesigner cake maker Brian Walak put his talents to good use (not to marginalize his other, impressive work, but we can't exactly cover non-gaming culinary art) and made a cake modeled after a Wii, complete with remote (but no sensor bar in sight).Wired's Chris Kohler has posted some advice from Walak for budding chefs who want to make their own Wii cake. Walak's creation got him on the Martha Stewart show to discuss the game console and his pastry. Video embedded after the break.

We've all seen plenty of different kinds of cakes shaped as a Wii or its accessories, so this is nothing new to you or us. But, this whole Wii wedding craze is. Frankly, it's something we welcome with a big smile on our face, because nothing brightens our day more than Wii and love. Actually, to us, the Wii is love. Love in console form.[Via Geek Alerts]

  • Zelda Week: Possibly the best gaming cake ever

Okay, that's it. We're done. From now on, gamer weddings just don't matter. They're empty, soulless shells next to this. Sure, Tetris cakes are awesome, and Zelda ice sculptures are cool as, well, ice, but this one takes the cake -- literally. This Wind Waker-inspired wedding cake is a work of art. We're pretty sure we wouldn't even be able to cut it, much less eat it ... in fact, we would need to create some sort of force field technology to preserve this thing until the end times. Bounce on over to Kotaku if you want to see the top in detail, and weep that you do not have such an item preserved on a high shelf in your home.Unless you do. In which case, we want it.

  • Blizzard designer's gamer wedding

How to incorporate gaming into your wedding and still keep it tasteful? It's a question many young men and women are dealing with nowadays. So, until we get The Tasteful Gamer's Wedding by Martha Stewart, we're just going to have to keep figuring it out on our own. This is how Cory Stockton, lead level designer at Blizzard, worked gaming into his wedding: Super Mario Bros. wedding cake. (So. Cal. designer Erica O'Brien) Legend of Zelda ice sculpture/vodka luge (So. Cal. Union Ice). The sculpture doubled as a vodka luge for martinis and shots at the wedding. If you look close at the images in the gallery you can see the channel flowing diagonal down the center of the sword/shield for the alcohol. Tables were all named after video game consoles. The head table was called "Press Start to Begin." There were 23 tables from the NES and NeoGeo, to the Xbox 360. The grand entrance music was The Legend of Zelda's overworld theme and the wedding party's music was the Super Mario Bros. World 1-1 theme. His wife Christi was "100% ok" with those elements, but Stockton says it's mostly because it was his only real involvement with the wedding. He says the guests were happy with the elements as well and they received tons of compliments on the cake and sculpture. For the tables named after consoles Stockton says, "I actually tried to sit people at table names that matched up too. For instance we had the grandparents at the NES table and all the kids at the Wii table. I will say, the Virtual Boy table was not all that popular." More images can be found in the gallery below. Congrats to the couple.%Gallery-8135%

  • Nokia creates mooncakes disguised as phones

To celebrate China's Mid-Autumn festival, the Finnish baking behemoth handset maker has created mooncakes in four delicious flavors. While nothing like a traditional mooncake (think round, more moon-like) we're pretty sure that anybody lucky enough to be on the receiving end of this gift from Nokia will appreciate the effort. We're working on some pretty important Twinkie-as-mobile carvings over here at Engadget and as soon as they're ready, you can be dang sure we'll be eating them up.

So, we've seen quite a few Wii cakes, but only from the outside ... so we thought it necessary to ask you, dear readers, this very important question: what flavor should a Wii cake be? JC (who should apparently be beaten) suggested lemon. We heartily disagree (we love the flavor, but not with buttercream or vanilla icing) and would like to see a good ol' plain white cake, though we'd offer props if it were tinted blue. Chocolate might be a nice surprise -- and hey, it's dark in there. p.s. don't worry, vidGuy, we listened to your suggestion in the comments yesterday, but we have to take a day off from the heavy topics!

Looks like flickr user rufus50 is taking a page from the Martha Stewart cookbook on this one -- though we hope it tastes better than her admittedly beautiful effort apparently did. Now we just need to add a classic controller cake and maybe some game-shaped cakes, and -- are we getting a little silly? It must be the sugar high. For those who are interested in trying this one at home, alas ... no helpful how-to was included with the picture.

The awesome (and yet disturbing) Kirby cake we showed you a few weeks ago inspired reader Ricky to send in his own bit of sugary birthday gaming goodness, and does it ever make our mouths water. His girlfriend put this together for a 20th birthday celebration that we wish had been ours -- and from the care that obviously went into this cake, Ricky's princess is probably not in another castle. We're certain he's found her. It's not just pretty on the outside, either; beneath the super-sweet recreation of a classic gaming screen lie layers of chocolate cake, strawberries, and chocolate mousse. Ricky reports that, while it hurt a little, deep inside, to munch on his beloved Mario, the cake was totally worth it. If only he'd sent us a piece. Has someone put together a unique gift for your special day? Are you sitting atop a throne made of NES carts as you read this? Maybe you just own a particularly cool gaming shirt or two, or are proud of how your gaming set-up looks. If you have something you want to show off, snap some pics and send them over to us at showmeit at dsfanboy dot com. We'll take care of the rest.

  • Keepin' it real fake, part LXVIII: the edible iPhone edition

We've seen knit iPhones, iPhone clones, but this takes the cake, an edible iPhone. Will the iPhone madness ever end? How tasty must that luscious dark chocolate frosting be? Sadly no hint was given about the creator(s) of this bit of mobile confection, but if any of you do, please have them get in touch. We've decided Engadget Mobile needs an HTC Kaiser with working hinge and sliding action -- white cake would be fine, though, we prefer angel food cake around here. Top shelf bit of work on that phone and they even got the AT&T bit right.

Call it the First rule of Confectionary Geekery, if you will-- no gadget is allowed to reach icon status until it is immortalized in cake form. This is another happening that didn't show up on our bingo card, but probably should have.Fortunately, someone's corrected the dire problem of not having an iPhone that is both beautiful, elegant, and edible. They've actually got lots of amazing cakes, including a few purses, a dragster, and even a pom pom. But can the pom pom browse Google maps? Didn't think so.[via FSJ]

  • Sony sends flowers and cake to MGS event

Flowers are a great way of saying "I love you." Or is it, "I want you to stay exclusive to my console platform." The Metal Gear Solid 20th Anniversary event was littered with gifts from Sony. There were these beautiful flowers from Kaz Hirai (pictured, left). In addition, Sony baked a cake for the event (pictured, right). As Kotaku points out, there's a lot of Sony love with Metal Gear Solid. Let's not forget that Metal Gear movie that's supposedly being handled by Sony. Or the new Metal Gear phone, also designed by Sony. With all of these slight nudges in Sony's favor, why was there any doubt that the game would launch as a PS3 exclusive?[Thanks, Jay86!]

Game cakes may be well on the way to cliche-dom, but we don't care, since they continue to be almost uniformly awesome. For the happy occasion of Tetris überfan Nightsnack's wedding, his sister and friends had this cake made by A Piece of Cake, being careful not to complete any single layer lest it blink and disappear. It looks like this cake was made just for us, doesn't it? Actually, the topper represents the bride and groom's first initials, which break apart into Tetrominoes to be fit into spaces on the body of the cake. Only after these and the other floating Tetrominoes were placed did the cake get cut up and served. We wish the happy couple a lifetime of eating their favorite games together.[Via Kotaku]

  • Martha Stewart on how to bake an edible Wii

Martha Stewart has managed to bag a front cover appearance on Wired, a publication which somehow has convinced Martha to "geek out." Translation: Martha baked a cake in the shape of a Wii, and wanted to show it off. Although this example may not be in the same league as our birthday cake competition -- she ain't winnin' no Alienware with that thing -- we'll give Martha a respectable grade for her first effort: we wish her better luck next time with the "geeking out."

Has the time limit run out on Martha Stewart prison humor? We hope not, even though we know the 'baking a file into a cake' humor died out eons ago.Martha appears on the cover of the August Wired magazine, promoting a feature inside on how to bake a Wii cake. It is amazingly cool to us that a mainstream magazine has not only the Wii on its cover, but a Wii cake. Gaming cakes seem so much like the exclusive domain of the Internet.

Okay, we admit it. We're cheating a little. Instead of letting someone come to us with their nifty gaming goodness, we saw something that was simply so awesome we had to ask if we could share it with you ... and luckily, NeoGAFfer cloudwalking had no problem with us showing off this incredible cake. Hey, if it was ours, we'd want to show the world as well!Birthday girl cloudwalking's good pal jarosh had this Kirby cake made, but the fun didn't stop there. As he was slowly dismembered devoured, the pair had fun changing his features around, as you can see in the gallery ... though the reddish filling on the knife is a little disturbing. Poor Kirby! We're not sure we could have made ourselves eat the little guy. Then again, it could be revenge for the times we've been inhaled in various Smash Bros. matches. Can you top a nummy Kirby cake? If so -- or if you have anything else you want to show off -- you too can be in this spot, with everyone cooing over your awesome stuff. Just take some pictures and send them to showmeit at dsfanboy dot com. We'll take care of the rest.%Gallery-4771%

Su-Yin from The Journal of a Girl who Loves To Cook has crafted the most breathtaking Mario cake we've ever seen. The inspiration came when a friend spotted the Super Mario wedding cake and said "Su Yin could do better than that!". So ... she did. As with any serious art project, the design began with a sketch and took several days to complete. The results, as you can see, are beyond stunning. Check out the gallery below and marvel at Su-Yin's ability to blend food, art, and geekery into one delicious dessert.%Gallery-3495%

Made by Su-Yin of The Journal of a Girl who Loves To Cook, we don't think we could bring ourselves to eat such a work of art. Seriously, the only thing we can think of is that Joe Esposito song from The Karate Kid when viewing this cake. It is the best around and nothing is ever going to keep it down. It looks like a cake that would just punch itself right out of your stomach, escaping your body so that it may realize its dreams of being free. This cake is so good it's sentient.%Gallery-3499%[Via Joystiq]

Poor Czech auto manufacturer Skoda. Had it built this (presumably non-working) 1:1 replica of the new Fabia supermini in the medium of cake just a few months earlier, it would almost certainly be the proud owner of a brand new OQO Model 02 right about now. Check out the ad that documents the cakemobile's creation after the break...
