Those of you with eyes set on a mid-range DSLR may want to wait for Nikon's D7500, scheduled to launch later this summer for $1,250 body-only. The new shooter features a 20.9-megapixel DX-format sensor, an ISO range of 100-51,600 (with a low setting of 50), 8fps continuos shooting and 4K UHD video at 24, 25 and 30fps. What's more, the D7500 comes with an Expeed 5 imaging chip, the same processor that's on Nikon's D500 high-end DSLR. According to the company, that should make the camera versatile enough to handle fast-action and low-light scenarios with ease.

As promised, we managed to take a closer look at the D5, Nikon's new flagship DSLR camera. Although the company didn't let us take any pictures with it (not yet anyway), we were able to pick it up and witness firsthand what it's like to hold it. Spoiler alert: this thing is a beast. It's definitely a heavy device, weighing in at roughly 3 lbs, and you'll know right away it does justice to its $6,500 price tag -- there are few shooters out there that will feel more premium than this one does.

  • Nikon launches the D500 DSLR with 'smart connectivity'

Nikon's has neglected its smaller DX-sensor DSLR lineup of late, but it just changed all that in one fell swoop by launching the D500 DSLR. The 20.9-megapixel camera has "advanced smart device capability," meaning that Nikon wants it to play well with your smartphone and other gadgets. Though packing a smaller, APS-C-sized sensor than the new flagship FX-sensor D5, it has the same Expeed 5 processor and rapid 153-point AF system. That gives it a lively 10fps shooting speed, with up to 200 shots in RAW mode. The D500 has a 100-51,200 ISO range that's expandable to a ridiculous 50-1,640,000 ISO equivalent, and like the D5, there's a brand new tiltable touchscreen.

Sure, the Nikon D5000 might have gotten itself a ship date today, but Canon's Rebel T1i is doing one better and actually turning up in stores a couple weeks ahead of its scheduled mid-May debut. This particular specimen was spotted at Bromfield Camera in Boston, but we'd love to hear if you've seen this guy pop up elsewhere -- let us know! [Thanks, Conrado]

  • Nikon readies entry-level DSLR with articulating display for April 14th launch? (updated with spyshots!)

Word on the prismatic, hinged mirror streets of camera-land suggest that NIkon is preparing to launch "new products" for Spring. Rightful speculation made after a press invite was purportedly sent to a variety of photog publications announcing an April 14th launch event. Expectations vary widely as to what will be announced including a new entry-level D60-followup with 720p video on up to a D400 with 16 megapixel Sony CMOS. We even have the dubious photo above showing a Nikon with articulating display taken by a jockey riding a humor forum who claims to have been traveling "somewhere in Eastern Europe and stumbled across a commercial shoot for Nikon." Sure, that's believable. Fortunately, we're just over a week away from knowing for sure.Update: Well, well, what's this... we just received a big batch of spy shots that look authentic enough and clearly show what looks like a low-end Nikon with articulating display.Update 2: We just received a few more pictures as well as the detailed backstory to this Nikon with swiveling display (a first for Nikon). Seems Kevin, a film student, was smitten by the Arriflex 235 435 motion picture camera used to film the commercial in Dubrovnik, Croatia yesterday. It wasn't until later, when he was reviewing the pics from the day, that he realized "that the subject of the commercial was the yet to be announced Nikon 500(0?)." Looks like a legit and incredibly fortunate find to us.[Thanks, Kevin] Read -- Articulating display spy shotRead -- April 14th press event
