The PSN update this week is casual. You know, nothing big, but not bad. There are some deals, like the seriously reduced Penny Arcade Adventures bundle. It has a couple neat demos, like Just Cause 2. Oh, oh, and there's a new episode of The Tester. We know you're loving that, but not as much as you're loving Ru Paul's Drag Race (confess!). It's a T-shirt and jeans kind of update this week. Check out the full PSN update after the break. You don't know it yet, but today's going to be a very good day. The PSN has been flooded with new content, including the "Desperate Escape" Resident Evil 5 DLC, demos for Just Cause 2 and Patchwork Heroes, and about 8,000 Karaoke Revolution songs. Click past the jump to see all of this week's offerings! Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

Demos for God of War III and Darksiders are up this week. Grandia's on PS One Classics. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is half-price. There's Valkyria Chronicles and Uncharted 2 DLC. Echoshift is up on PSP. Basically, if you don't find something for you this week on the PlayStation Network, you probably don't own a PlayStation console. There's new content for both PS platforms in the latest PSN Euro update, ranging from an unimaginably beefy demo for Darksiders, W!Games' strategy title Greed Corp, the The Secret Armory of General Knoxx expansion for Borderlands, the totally free third installment of Blue Toad Murder Files and a PSP demo for The Eye Of Judgment Legends. It's time for Sony's big PSN series premiere. Yep, The Tester is now available to download for free on your PSP and PS3. We promised SCEA's Chris Morell not to make fun of it here, so let's move on to the good stuff. Notably, there are three PSone classics, in addition to downloadable demos of Yakuza 3 and Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing. Some major DLC lands today as well, for Resident Evil 5, Assassin's Creed II, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. It looks like it's safe to say that the PSN's dry season has finally come to a close, as this week's update is positively moist with new content. Europe's finally getting its hands on Peggle and a demo for Yakuza 3, a bunch of games went on sale (such as Marvel vs. Capcom 2), new content was added to Assassin's Creed 2 and Resident Evil 5, and Otis Redding made his debut on Rock Band. All was right with the world. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

  • PSN Thursday: Heavy Rain demo drips in

This week's PSN update is highlighted by the sopping wet delight of the Heavy Rain demo. We liked the "interactive drama" in our review, but now's the time to try it out and decide if the gameplay is right for you. There's actually plenty going on in this week's update, but we can't seem to stop focusing on this Ditta Von Teese "premium" theme. See, there was a Dita theme back in November, but this latest one is a "premium" theme for the same price of $2. Is it Teese-ier? On PSP, try out the echoshift demo and check out all those comics. The games may not flow for the PSP Go, but at least there's plenty to read. Check out the full PSN update after the break. We're just weeks away from getting our hands on David Cage's uber-dramatic brainchild, Heavy Rain -- but as of today, European PSN surfers will be able to grab the demo for the cinematic title, free of charge (or download code). We're not sure why you'd want to do that, though. Isn't that kind of like watching a scene from the middle of the movie, turning the movie off, then coming back and watching the rest of it a couple weeks later? This week's PSN update is all about PS3 demos. The Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Aliens vs. Predator demos bring online multiplayer slaughter by the buckets of blood, acid and ... whatever blood-esque fluorescent compound Predators have coursing through their veins. PSP owners don't get very much this week in terms of games, but there are plenty of comics to download. Check out the full PSN update after the break. Hey, look at you, Europe! You finally got your hands on Final Fantasy VIII! Try not to get too jealous about the fact that we've been playing that jam for a couple of months now -- after all, you guys already got Vagrant Story. You jerks. There are tons of other noteworthy items in this week's update, including a demo for Alien Vs. Predator and Battlefield Bad Company 2. You'll also find a few packs of downloadable souls for Dante's Inferno, some of which require real-life money to obtain. Basically, you purchase souls without having to actually play the game. As far as we're concerned, that's straight-up sloth. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

Folks who couldn't bring themselves to buy Uncharted 2 until they played the demo, well, now's their chance. This week's PSN update adds a single-player demo for Joystiq's Game of the Year for 2009. For those who already have Nathan Drake's latest adventure, the update also includes the $5 "PlayStation Heroes" pack, which allows you to reskin the Uncharted 2 crew with Resistance, inFamous and Killzone bodies. After two relatively dry weeks, the PSN update has finally delivered a few savory morsels. There's Thexder Neo (joined by a free trial version of the game), a demo for Uncharted 2, some new DLC for the PSP version of LittleBigPlanet, and a Creedence Clearwater Revival track pack on Guitar Hero 5. We know! Finally. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

Click to see the full image. The update may not be big, but the savings are as the PlayStation Network is holding its "10 for '10 Game Sale" this week. Until next Wednesday, January 27, pick up games like Critter Crunch and Burn Zombie Burn for half off -- wow, does this sound familiar. It's not just PS3, as Savage Moon: The Hera Campaign and Crystal Defenders for PSP are also discounted. Check out the full PSN update after the break, along with the PSP comics update. Once again, the weekly PSN update isn't exactly chock-full of new releases -- however, you'll want to hop onto the PSN storefront once this baby goes live. Sony's offering free entry to the ModNation Racers beta to the first 100,000 people who download the title, at which point it will be forever removed! Keep an eye out for the store to get updated later this afternoon. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

    01.14.2010

[Image credit: David Gunter] Today's PSN update reminds us about the vastness of space. Like, space is really, really huge. Certainly in comparison to this week's update, which is so very, very small. Almost microscopic when placed next to each other. It's the smallest update we've seen in a long, long time. We're not going to say that it's been as long as space has existed, but it's been a long time. There's some Vampire Weekend DLC for Guitar Hero and an UNO demo, if you're interested. There's also more PSP comics. Check out the PSN update after the break. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

Unless you're like, a huge UNO fan, or a staunch supporter of speedy restaurant waiters, there's not a huge glut of exciting stuff in this week's European PSN releases. Still, there's a bunch of games on sale, Rock Band got a metric ton of new tracks, and Guitar Hero 5 saw the rhythm game debut of Vampire Weekend. Click past the jump for the full release list! Today's PSN update, the first of 2010, isn't exactly packed, but there's some good stuff in there. Check out the Dark Void and Matt Hazard demos. There's also the latest Borderlands expansion pack, which takes players to the Underdome. On PSP, there's a whole lotta comics to download. Check out the full PSN update after the break. • This Wednesday: Matt Hazard brings 'Blood Bath & Beyond' to XBLA, PSN on Thursday

    01.04.2010

Faux video game legend Matt Hazard returns (this time, for real) in Blood Bath & Beyond, blasting his way onto XBLA and PSN this Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. The 2D side-scroller has the protagonist battling through his "classic" gaming past, fighting "pirates to penguins; lighthouses to laser-wielding astronauts; Mounties to mechanical rhinos" for $15 (1200). The idea behind Matt Hazard sounds so perfect on paper: take thirty years of video game cliches and mock them. Sadly, as evidenced by Matt Hazard's first outing, Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard, instead of creating humor from the conventions, it ironically relied on them for the core gameplay -- thus, creating a game that invariably could mock itself and was its own punchline. Hopefully, this time around Hazard will make the jokes instead of being one. %Gallery-74470% Source -- This week on Arcade: Matt Hazard [Major Nelson] Source -- Parody Alert!!! Matt Hazard [PS Blog]

The final PSN update of 2009 is all about the sales, with PSN and Sega DLC getting price cuts. There will be no update next week due to the holiday. Also, for all you epic space-opera shooter fans, Wing Commander IV is available as a PSone Classic for $6 -- the thing weighs in at 2.25GB. Check out the full PSN update after the break.
