You won't have to be content with older Resident Evil games on the Switch for much longer. Capcom is bringing two of its not-quite-newest survival horror titles, Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, to Nintendo's platform sometime in the fall. It's not certain just how much will have changed with the port, although they look reasonably intact from the cursory glimpse Nintendo has offered so far. These aren't the franchise's greatest hits -- they will, however, fill in a conspicuous gap for Switch fans.

Capcom's five-in-one "Essentials" bundle is now available at retailers, such as Amazon and Best Buy. The package includes five games for $60: Resident Evil 6, Super Street Fighter 4, Devil May Cry 4, Dead Rising 2 and a download code for Mega Man 10. First announced in late July, both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the bundle come with a Capcom-branded drawstring bag, which is a good place to stash the achievements and trophies you print out after earning them in each game. We're not the only ones that do that, right?

  • Next Resident Evil likely aimed at core fans, says ex-Capcom SVP

Capcom is taking its cue from fan feedback for Resident Evil 6, and the next game in the series is "likely" to appeal more to core fans, according to former senior vice president of marketing Michael Pattison. Speaking to MCV while employed at Capcom, Pattison said the company took notice of calls for the series to focus on survival horror rather than attempt a broader scope. "With Resident Evil 6 specifically, we probably put too much content in there, there were comments from consumers that said it felt bloated," Pattison told MCV. "The Leon missions went down very well, and because we did Resident Evil Revelations on 3DS, there was a cry out for us to focus our attention on survival horror, rather than be too many things to all people. You'll find where we go next will likely be more targeted at our core fanbase." We've clarified with Capcom that Pattison's comments were made to MCV during E3 in June, when he was still employed by the company. According to Pattison's LinkedIn profile, he left Capcom in July and joined Sony Computer Entertainment Europe in August as vice president of third party publisher and developer relations. Resident Evil 6 shifted just under 5 million units in six months, figures that didn't meet the company's projections. It's fair to say the series' switch away from survival horror hasn't gone down well with everyone, although in his his two-and-a-half stars review of Resident Evil 6, Joystiq chief Ludwig Kietzmann said it had the potential to be a great action game: "The problem isn't that Resident Evil is changing direction over time. No, it wants to go in all directions in once."

Resident Evil 6, Capcom's flagship of horrors for the fiscal year concluding March 31, 2013, certainly has "plateaued," as Capcom put it in today's results. The game, which launched in October of 2012, shipped over 4.5 million units at the time. The company announced today the game sold 4.9 million units. Comparatively, Resident Evil 5 has sold 6.1 million units. "As a result, [Resident Evil 6] did not meet with our projection," the company's statement reads. "In contrast, Dragon's Dogma became a greater-than-expected hit product in the domestic market, which has high profitability, and became an unprecedented million seller in the recent years as an original title." Overall, Capcom sales were up 14.6 percent for the year to ¥94.07 million ($950M), with net income down to ¥2.97 million ($30M), which is a decrease of 56 percent from last year. Capcom expects this year to be similar in revenues, but hopes to bring that profit back to the 2012 level. This year's line-up includes Remember Me and Lost Planet 3.

The Resident Evil movie franchise is an out-of-control subterranean money train that just won't stop, with the next installment expected next year. ShockTillYouDrop reports star Milla Jovovich and husband/director Paul W.S. Anderson will begin shooting this fall for a September 12, 2014 debut date. The movie doesn't currently have a fancy subtitle.Since the movies aren't actually numbered and should be enjoyed simply for what they are, the order goes: Resident Evil, Apocalypse, Extinction, Afterlife and Retribution.Resident Evil: Retribution reportedly cost $65 million to make and grossed $221 million worldwide. Yes, Michelle Rodriguez was back in it. Yes, it was somehow explained. No, we can't recall the reason. Clearly we aren't on the same page on how these movies should be enjoyed.

Look out, it's a hungry horde of Resident Evil games infecting Day 3 of Xbox Live's Games on Demand sale, with five of the nibblers dangerously discounted. Shuffling along at half-price are Residents Evils 4-6 and Operation Raccoon City, taking 4 and 5 to to $9.99 and the other two to $19.99. Savings-wise, the pick of the bunch is Code Veronica, with today's discount digesting 75 percent of its insides and only leaving behind a stump of $4.99.As ever - well, until March 4 - there's a groaning mass of other Games on Demand at sale-severed prices, and one of those groaners is Grid. With the second Grid game nearing the finish line, $4.99 is a decent price at which to dive into Codemasters' racer series.

PlayStation 3 players can get their hands on Resident Evil 6's multiplayer DLC modes, which have been available on Xbox 360 since December. 'Predator' tasks one player with being the Ustanak, a giant bioweapon, while other players band together to take it down. 'Survivor' can be played in solo or with a team, with downed players resurrected as zombies to hunt human prey. Finally, 'Onslaught' pits two players against each other as they battle waves of enemies, each kill chain sending that many more enemies to the other player's area. Each mode is priced at $3.99 on PSN.On top of the DLC modes, Capcom has also dated a collection of all released Mercenaries maps, including maps that were previously exclusive to pre-order customers. This one-stop Mercenaries map pack bundles together Rail Yard, Catacombs, High Seas Fortress, all available now for 80 MSP ($1) each, plus Stage Map Pack A (160 MSP/$2) and Map Pack B (160 MSP/$2). This collection will be available on Xbox Live worldwide and PSN in North America on March 5; European PS3 owners can snag the pack on March 6.

  • Capcom sales, income up in 2012

    02.04.2013

Capcom continued its recent financial boon with a net income of 6.6 billion yen ($72 million), up 104.9 percent, for the first nine months of its fiscal year, which will end on March 31, 2013. Capcom attributed the success to launches of major games, the growing popularity of its social games in Japan, and its newly introduced Resident Evil 5 slot machine. Sales were up 44 percent during the same period from last year. While both Resident Evil 6 and DmC: Devil May Cry saw significant reductions to their end-of-fiscal-year projections, Capcom is pleased by the performances of Dragon's Dogma, which exceeded expectations to become a million-seller last year, and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which racked up over 600,000 sales during its first month in Japan.

Capcom shipped 1 million units of DmC: Devil May Cry on Xbox 360 and PS3 in January. The company adjusted its sales forecasts for the game to 1.2 million by March 31, down from the 2 million projected back in May 2012.The figures don't take into account the PC version, released on January 25. Nonetheless, they strongly indicate Ninja Theory's reboot is flagging way behind the last entry in the series, Devil May Cry 4, which shipped 2 million units in its first two weeks at retail.Capcom also updated sales figures for Resident Evil 6 to 4.8 million; the series' latest outbreak had shipped 4.5 million by the end of September. and was initially projected to reach 7 million sales by March 31. Dragon's Dogma is up to 1.25 million, while Resident Evil: Raccoon City is at a meagre 650,000, including PC sales. Maybe that's why Revelations producer Masachika Kawata feels there've been too many RE games of late.Capcom didn't release figures for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, released on Wii U in Japan on December 8, 2012, but said the game "became a smash hit." In case you suspect that's just deflective hot air, the action-RPG sold over 600,000 copies by the end of 2012, with the Western launch still to come in March.

Capcom is working on DLC for Resident Evil 6 featuring Japanese voiceovers for its audience in the country, Siliconera translates from Famitsu. Resident Evil 6, like many other Capcom games, has English voiceovers only, even in the Japanese version. Not that the game has suffered in Japan for a lack of native voice acting – Resident Evil 6 for PS3 is Japan's No. 5 game of 2012, selling 828,000 copies nationally last year. Capcom shipped 3.7 million copies of Resident Evil 6 worldwide in the first half of fiscal 2013, nicely padding its overall revenue for the period, though it wasn't even close to hitting our personal "best of 2012" list.

The PC version of Resident Evil 6 will include a new mode, sort of. The Mercenaries: No Mercy (unofficial name: "The Naries") is based on the existing Mercenaries mode, but with "more enemies on screen than ever before." Ada Wong's campaign will be available when you start the game, playable in co-op, and you will be able to "fine tune the in-game camera," features that were added to the console versions in updates.Sometime next month, in advance of the March 22 launch of RE6 for PC, Capcom will release a free benchmark test. We'll warn you: regardless of how well your computer handles it, it's still going to be Resident Evil 6.In addition to the PC news, Capcom also revealed a March release window for Siege Mode on PS3 and Xbox 360, a $4 add-on for two to six people to play online. One team attempts to kill a rookie (AI-controlled) BSAA agent as monsters, while another team controls the living human characters from RE6 as they try to protect him.%Gallery-177255%
