The Resident Evil 6 footage above was taken from Capcom Summer Jam, an event in Japan specifically for the public, which ran this past weekend. Just one thing bothers us: we were always under the impression that Leon S. Kennedy was a hero, a man who doesn't back down from the big bad corporation and does what's right, no matter the cost. In this Resident Evil 6 footage, we get to see tidbits from Leon's darker side – his cowardly jog away from a group of zombies, his silent stare at a poor woman as she's devoured by a zombie.Tsk tsk, Leon. Tsk Tsk indeed.

The Resident Evil 6 Collector's Edition is making its way to Europe and Australia, dragging the following juicy leftovers with it,: a zombie steel book; an exclusive hardback art book; an Ivy University, Tall Oaks hoodie; zinc alloy emblems of the three main protagonists' squad signs, framed, mounted and signed by senior producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi and director Eiichiro Sasaki; an avatar download code for Xbox 360 players or a dynamic theme for PS3.All of this is thrown in the "Needle Bomb" collectors box, along with the game itself, of course.A standalone, zombie-proof steelbook version of Resident Evil 6 is available today for pre-order as well, for "around the same price as the standard version," Capcom announced.

Capcom Chairman and CEO Kenzo Tsujimoto told investors of the company's plan to "reduce the time needed to develop major titles from the usual three to four years to only two and a half years," as part of a briefing on the fiscal year 2011 financial results earlier this month."Speeding up development will probably raise the cost," he said. "But creating quality content will be vital to Capcom's ability to survive by overcoming intense global competition. We will make substantial investments to develop this content."President and COO of Capcom Haruhiro Tsujimoto added to the CEO's comments in his own address, saying the company's plan is also "to increase [DLC] sales from 2.8 billion yen in the past fiscal year to 3.5 billion yen in the current fiscal year." The COO also noted that the upcoming Resident Evil 6 will release approximately three and a half years after Resident Evil 5, and Lost Planet 3 will launch after a two and a half year development cycle, both in a shorter time span than with past games. He added that DmC Devil May Cry will require five years of development due to a decision to switch to an external developer, with the end goal of creating new games in the series every two and a half years. With DmC Devil May Cry shipping in 2013, that equates to another game in the series in 2015.

Capcom has laid out commercial projections for its biggest upcoming games, and expects Resident Evil 6 to sell seven million copies. Resident Evil 5 sold almost two million in its first six months or so in the US alone.Resident Evil 6 is just one of four big titles in the pipeline from Capcom. The Ninja Theory reboot of Devil May Cry is expected to sell two million, and this month's launch of Dragon's Dogma is expected to yield a total of 1.5 million units sold. Finally, the recently announced Lost Planet 3 – which is in development at Spark Unlimited – is expected to sell the least of the bunch, with 1.4 million copies.

Engadget has seen plenty of limited edition items looking to lighten the wallets of oil barons and hedge fund managers alike. Now Capcom's readying its bundle for Resident Evil 6's Japan launch and it includes protagonist Leon's leather jacket -- available in sizes S, M, L and XL. A complete set of as-yet unrevealed "tablet cases", supposedly emblazoned with character designs will also arrive in the set, as those wealthy enough to afford the 104,000 yen ($1,300) set presumably have at least four devices to garnish with Resident Evil livery. Japanese one-percenters can hit up the preorder site -- with their choice of jacket size -- at the source below.

Resident Evil 6 will feature "Mercenaries Mode." That's the good news. The bad news is that Capcom is spreading three additional maps for the mode across three separate retailers as pre-order bonuses.Gamestop pre-order customers will receive The Catacombs map, Amazon purchasers will obtain the High Seas Fortress and Best Buy buyers will be granted the Rail Yard. Capcom has some teaser images of each on its Unity site.If you aren't looking to spend $180 to obtain all three merc maps, we're sure Capcom will make them available as DLC for a nominal fee sometime after launch.

We're used to premium editions costing a bit extra, but Resident Evil 6's bundle for Japan costs a whopping $1,300. This premium edition contains Resident Evil 6, Leon's leather jacket (seriously) and four different phone cases – one designed for Leon, one for Chris, one for newly revealed Luke and another random case.It makes sense the bundle would include four phone cases, as you're going to need at least three friends to help you buy this $1,300 bundle. We guess you could share Leon's leather jacket too, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants style. It comes in sizes S, M, L and XL.Only 5,000 of these premium edition bundles will be made available for ¥100,000 ($1,300) each. Pre-orders are open now, and conclude on June 11.

What happens when you have a big ol' press event in Italy? Apparently, you get Resident Evil 6 trailers with Italian subtitles. This latest trailer pushes up Resident Evil 6's release date from November 20 to October 2.In case you're in a situation that prevents streaming video, you should also know that the third protagonist (aka "the man who's told to save the world") is Albert Wesker's son. The trailer is rife with high-level RE drama, ending on a standoff between the perfectly coiffed Leon S. Kennedy and the significantly gruffer Chris Redfield. And no, there aren't any zombie presidents in this one. Not a single one.%Gallery-152819%

Capcom's Senior VP of planning and business development, Christian Svensson, responded frankly to a few of the company's recent issues at GDC last week, and perhaps most interesting was his complete surrender on the misspelled Resident Evil: Revelations box art."It's embarrassing. I can't really sugarcoat it," he admitted to Game Informer, saying that multiple departments were responsible for checking it, and that procedures had since been updated to make sure it doesn't happen again. "There are only about 90,000 units that have the misprint. If you've got it and it's shrink-wrapped, that's a new special edition, that's our new strategy," Svensson joked.Svensson declined to comment on the abrupt cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3, and offered a "never say never" on a US release of Ace Attorney Investigations 2. Asura's Wrath sales, according to Svensson, "went about almost exactly how we thought it would."And Svensson also bends the knee a little bit concerning the announcement of Resident Evil 6 and its proximity to other Resident Evil titles, but is unapologetic about making that title the biggest in the series yet. "The plan is the biggest Resident Evil game ever. We're not messing around," said Svensson. The plan is working, too, because "pre-orders for Resident Evil 6 are off to a fantastic start. The best start a Resident Evil game has ever had."

Resident Evil 6's Chris Redfield-led campaign will be heading to the "fictitious coastal town" of Lanshiang, located right next to China's own Twilight Zone. Furthermore, it'll be set in 2013, meaning that the game will offer a bleak vision of our imminent future.Capcom offered up more information beyond the setting and date clarifications this morning, such as word that the game's "mysterious third protagonist" is taking care of important mercenary business in Eastern Europe before he's tasked with saving the world in RE6. And perhaps most importantly, the Japanese publisher noted that this fall's big RE game will utilize an "evolved control system," which grants players the ability to "shoot whilst moving; slide; roll in any direction, and to take cover along with the addition of an enhanced melee attack." Blasphemy, we say!%Gallery-147678%

Dragon's Dogma is going to be the Zone of the Enders of 2012. We don't mean it's going to have awesome robots -- rather, a significant portion of its audience will be buying it only for the included demo.Capcom announced today that Dragon's Dogma will be out in North America on May 22, and in Europe on May 25. Each copy will include a code for access to a Resident Evil 6 demo -- if you buy it on Xbox, you'll be able to get the demo 60 days before anyone else, on July 3. The PSN version of the demo will go up on September 4 in North America and September 5 in Europe. It's not quite an Xbox exclusive, but it might as well be given that lead time! For those of you actually interested in Dragon's Dogma for its non-Resident Evil content, Capcom shared the new trailer above. It also announced exclusive pre-order DLC from various retailers: the "Pawn Upgrade Pack" from GameStop, the "Armor Upgrade Pack" from Best Buy, and the "Weapon Upgrade Pack" from Amazon. More DLC will be forthcoming, including weapons, armor, and new quests. Finally, Dragon's Dogma will feature a new original song by "Japan's foremost rock band" B'z.

Where's Carl been? We haven't seen that dude in two months. We thought he was just playing Skyrim, but now it seems that he's been roped into working on Resident Evil 6, much like the rest of the world's population."This is by far the largest scale production Capcom has ever embarked on," executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi reveals in a developer introduction to the announcement trailer, seen above. "Between the 150 staff members in Japan and everyone around the world, we have more than 600 people involved."Kobayashi goes on to call Resident Evil 6 "the most ambitious" in the series, and employing 600 is certainly a statement to that effect. To put that number into perspective, recent sequels Assassin's Creed 2 and GTA IV were completed thanks to the efforts of 450 and an estimated 1000, respectively.Kobayashi's foreword in the video above is joined by introductions from director Eiichiro Sasaki and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, the latter of whom defines Resident Evil 6's genre as "dramatic horror." With a straight face.

The Xbox Marketplace listing for Resident Evil 6 appears to contain some exceedingly juicy and entirely unannounced secrets about Capcom's upcoming thriller. If the listing is to be believed, Leon and Chris' latest adventure will include 2-player couch co-op, 6-player online co-op and 8-player "online multiplayer," which we're assuming will be some sort of group Mercenaries exercise. What's even more astounding is all of this information is just out there, floating around the Internet. We didn't have to collect masks or unlock a blood-filled casket or find key cards or anything. For now, we're cautiously taking everything we read with a grain of salt, even if it is the Xbox Marketplace. We've also reached out to Capcom for confirmation of these features.Update: We have received a missive from Capcom: "We'll have further clarification in the coming weeks." Tantalizing!

For those hoping Resident Evil 6 will play like a classic Resident Evil title, with more puzzles and less emphasis on (not) running and gunning -- look away now. Go watch the My Little Pony Skyrim mod and live in ignorant bliss for a while longer. You'll thank us later. Still here? All right, but we warned you:Capcom UK Marketing head Dave Turner said Resident Evil wants to tap into the Call of Duty market with its coming titles, noting Operation Raccoon City in particular: "The dream would be that the millions of Call of Duty fans that are enjoying these fast-paced online games are attracted to this Resident Evil," Turner said.Resident Evil has attracted more players since incorporating more action, with Resident Evil 5 leading the charge, Turner said. "We've seen the popularity of Resident Evil increase massively as the series became more action oriented -- Resident Evil 5 is the biggest seller in the series," he said. "So, it makes sense for us to follow this action area more fully."Turner was speaking mostly with Operation Raccoon City in mind, it sounds like, although the trailer for Resident Evil 6 doesn't make it look like the riddle-ridden games of yore.

  • New Resident Evil 6 details, freshly imported from Japan

    01.20.2012

The announce of Resident Evil 6 stole the spotlight yesterday afternoon during Capcom's big 15th anniversary event in Japan, and the company delivered even more info on the game than the surprisingly lengthy trailer could offer. It turns out that Leon will be joined by a brand new, highly alliterative security worker named Helena Harper, while Chris Redfield's partner remains unknown. In non-human characters, the snarling beast seen in the trailer repeatedly (and above) is named "Javo," and is said to have an "even greater impact than the zombies." He gives us a Nemesis vibe, which is to say, "He looks and sounds terrifying," even though his name makes him sound like a barista. The third main protagonist also hasn't been named, and has only been referred to thus far as "the man who's told to save the world." From what we gleaned in the trailer, he'll only do so for a price. According to Andriasang's report of the Japanese event where the title was announced, Capcom also went into detail on Resident Evil Chronicles HD, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Resident Evil Revelations, and spoke about upcoming merchandise based on the series. Also, there are, like, a lot of Resident Evil games in production right now, in case that wasn't clear.

  • Resident Evil 6 announced by Capcom, arriving November 20 on 360/PS3 with PC version later

    01.19.2012

Resident Evil 6 is heading to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 20, 2012, with a PC release to follow, says Capcom. In it, returning favorites Leon S. Kennedy (the "S" stands for "Superhair") and Chris Redfield (tree arms from RE5) will play co-leads, each leading his own campaign through the US and China, respectively. The brand new trailer is just above. Any of this sound familiar? That's probably because the next entry in the Resident Evil series was outed a bit earlier than its publisher expected this afternoon, when images of RE6 marketing were sent to IGN by a Gamestop employee. Subsequently, a flood of details about the unannounced game were unleashed by a couple different outlets regarding its gameplay, dev team, and characters. Many of said details have been re-confirmed by Capcom in its own press release, though it's lacking in the specificity we reported earlier. The trailer, however, depicts a new martial-artsy character fighting various ... things (and people), some splashes of cover-based shooting, and a presidential zombie. And is that Ashley? Three words: Oh. Em. Gee.
