Ship sub-systems working? Check. All stations reporting? Check. Weird guy with an enormous head peeking in from the vacuum of space? Wait a minute! As we see in today's One Shots, regular contributor Andrew got a surprise in Star Trek Online the other day -- in the form of a visit from a not-so-friendly alien lifeform that many Trek fans will recognize. So much for peace and quiet! He writes in to tell us more about this image: "I finally got a chance to meet up with Q in Star Trek Online during the weekend. It was such a great moment -- and a game highlight. This pic has my Rear Admiral 'Pojoh' finding the nefarious entity staring back at him from space. I geeked out. Looking for more Q action from STO in the future." Have you had someone sneak up on you during your recent MMO travels? If you'd like to share your moment of "whaaaat?" with us, then all you have to do is send in a screenshot to us here at oneshots@massively.com. Please make sure your image is at least 1024 pixels wide and has no visible UI elements. Additionally, it would be a good idea to make extra sure your files are attached to the email, as we've been getting a lot of mails lately without files attached! %Gallery-112285%

As some of you may have noticed last night, Brendan announced our newest division of the Massively Mob -- this time in EVE Online! For those curious, all the details are in EVE Evolved. We mention it because the corp's new home is set up in Gallente space, much like the station we see in today's One Shots. While our regular contributor Andrew didn't tell us specifically where this station is located, we think the mixture of cold metallic tones over a fiery lava planet is certainly eye-catching. From large to small, we love to hear about all kinds of MMOs! All you need to do to have your adventures featured on One Shots is to send a screenshot to us at oneshots@massively.com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. We'll post it out here and give you the thanks for sending it in! %Gallery-85937%

While One Shots is normally all about the stories that can be told in just one picture, every so often we like to mix it up a bit because a particular two-picture series will convey a story far better than only one image could. Such is the case with today's Star Trek Online screenshot that's come to us from Andrew (also known as Pojoh). Since this is a one-two punch of pictoral peculiarity, we're going to turn the rest of today's column over to him. Remember if you'd like to show off what's going on in your world, just email your screenshots to us at oneshots@massively.com along with your name, the name of the game, and a description. And now, a Star Trekkin' day in the life of Andrew, which continues beyond the break: "The scene: My Ferengi Captain, Pojoh, beamed onto a Federation ship that was worse for wear. In fact the only things holding it together were the containment fields. I wanted to test the containment field -- in this case open space was on both sides of a doorway. I jumped through...." %Gallery-85937%

There you are, wandering along, enjoying your day in your favorite MMO, when out of nowhere some monster decides that you look like a tasty snack. As you're close to a town or encampment, you perhaps think, "Aha, I'll just run over here and get some help." Well, sometimes, that help isn't coming, such as in today's Lord of the Rings Online One Shots sent in to us by Andrew (also known as Pojoh on the Firefoot server). He writes in to tell us his tale of indignation: "My burglar was running through the early part of Mirkwood and heading back to an elven camp to cash in a quest, when he was set upon by a foul goblin. Well, I was close to the elven encampment so I thought, 'hey, I'll run right up to the legion of Elven Guards, no way will the goblin reach me there.' What I didn't realize was that apparently the elves were SO entrenched in a meeting, that they couldn't help out a hobbit. Needless to say, I dispatched the goblin fiend, but not without being a bit perturbed by the laziness of some elves." One Shots needs screenshots! If you'd like to contribute to the cause, send in your screenshots to us here at oneshots@massively.com along with your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing. Please make sure your image is at least 1024 pixels wide, and has as few visible UI elements as possible. It may wind up as the next one posted here on Massively! %Gallery-85937%

With the summer heating up, there are tons of MMO spaces you can retreat into from the comfort of your air-conditioned home. Of course, if you love danger with your resource harvesting, you could mine some frosty ice in EVE Online. There's some seriously good ISK to be made for pilots willing to spend the time hunting it down and fighting off anyone else trying to kick you out of your mining spot -- or out to snitch your cargo. Today's cool EVE Online One Shot comes to us from Andrew, who writes in to tell us a bit more about why ice is so nice in EVE: "[This is an image of] a Mackinaw class Exhumer mining ice, which will be refined into hydrogen isotopes, heavy water, and liquid ozone. Compounds like these are used to fuel the thousands of star bases across New Eden." You can imagine the demand. Have you captured an interesting slice-of-life screenshot from your favorite MMO? Why not send it in and tell us a bit about what things are like there. Email it in to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing. Your screenshot could be the next one we feature here on Massively! %Gallery-85937%

Here in the states we're celebrating Memorial Day -- a day to honor those who are serving in, or have served in the military. With that said, since we here at Massively deal in made-up worlds, we thought it might be nice to show off a few Starfleet officers enjoying some R&R in Star Trek Online! If given our choice, we'd probably pick a nice sandy beach as a great place for a party too -- but we'd ditch the heavy uniforms. Those have to be hot and itchy. Today's One Shots comes to us from Andrew, or Pojoh Findil Orthalle, as he's known in Star Trek Online, who writes in to give us the scoop on this fun scene: "I thought I'd send a picture of my Ferengi Captain, Pojoh, relaxing from a hard day of keeping the Federation safe. What better place to get one's ears rubbed, than on Risa. As you can tell, there were some other Captains 'gettin' down' in the background as well." What's your favorite place to relax in your MMO of choice? Why not grab a screenshot of your favorite downtime activity and send it to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com. Be sure to include your name, the name of the game, and a note telling us about the screenshot. Your image could be the next we showcase here on Massively! %Gallery-85937%

Every day in EVE Online is a struggle to survive -- unless you happen to spend all your time in space dock. Brave capsuleers know that New Eden holds wealth and power beyond imagining, but those cherry spots full of the best resources generally require an expansive force to either capture or protect them, such as the one we see today. This great EVE Online One Shots comes to us from Andrew, who captured this image while out on the front lines. He writes in to explain the mass of ships we see: "Over 200 battleships begin to align for warp. Specially fit battleships such as these can engage at ranges exceeding 150 kilometres. Their eventual target is an infrastructure hub operated by one of the Providence Holder alliances." We can't speak for you, but seeing that mass of ships drop out of warp near us would certainly get our hearts racing! Have you captured an amazingly huge fleet movement in EVE? Perhaps you play a different MMO and would like to show off your group taking down a boss, or participating in PvP? All MMOs are welcome! Just email a screen to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game and a brief description. We'll post it out here and give you the credit for sending it in. %Gallery-85937%

While the Spring Festival horse issue may be bumming some Lord of the Rings Online players out, there's always one way to deal with it -- get completely hammered in-game! (Out of game hammering is entirely optional, mind you.) Of course, if you do decide to go chasing pink elephants, this is the type of sight that will likely greet you, as captured by Andrew, also known as Pojoh on the Firefoot server. He writes in to explain this blurry Lord of the Rings Online image: "My burg was enjoying the Spring Festival near Bree. [The] objective was simple -- go into a maze, drink some ale, walk out of the maze. When your screen looks like this, well... it's easier said than done. Really loving the festival and the effort that Turbine puts into these things." Are you taking part in an in-game event in your MMO of choice? If so, why not grab a screenshot of the merriment and send it to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com. Be sure to include your name, the name of the game and a description of what we're seeing. Yours could be the next one featured here on One Shots! %Gallery-85937%

While most of the huge battles we hear about in low and null-sec space in EVE Online are player-versus-player, there are still skirmishes with NPCs in the game to be had. While they may not be the most epic battles, they aren't too bad when it comes to gathering up some ISK. Today's EVE Online One Shots from Andrew gives us a bit more information on it: "In an asteroid belt deep in the far reaches of null-sec space, a Heavy Assault Ship engages pirates belonging to the Angel Cartel. This kind of pirate hunting (called "ratting") is a major source of income for many residents of null-sec." From the large-scale battles to the everyday missions, we love to show off things players are doing -- but we need you to send your screenshots in! Just email them to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. Please make sure the image is at least 1024px across and has no visible UI. We'll post them out here and give you the credit. Couldn't be easier! %Gallery-85937%

While some are headed to space in Star Trek Online this weekend, the war for sov rages on in various parts of EVE Online. What it doesn't have in avatar combat (yet) it more than makes up for in sandbox play, putting players in total control over their own character's destiny. This gorgeous EVE Online screenshot comes to us today from Andrew, who writes in to explain what's going on for those who may not be familiar: The release of Dominion has seen a lot of freighter convoys hauling infrastructure to nullsec (player controlled space). In this shot we have a gaggle of freighters approaching a Titan, which will use it's Jump Portal Generator to send them to the far reaches of the galaxy. From large to small, we love to see MMOs of all styles and sizes. If you'd like to show off your favorite game and give others a glimpse into one of the things you think makes it cool, why not send in a One Shots image? All you have to do is email it to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing. We'll post it out here and give you the credit for sending it in. Couldn't be easier!%Gallery-9798%

  • Frozen iPod returns from the grave

Andrew sent us this great story -- he found an iPod classic in the melting snow of Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. It had apparently been there "since early winter," and was frozen solid... as is the case, we'd imagine, with most things left outside there between September and April.Incredibly, though, once taken home, cleaned up, and given a warm cup of tomato soup and a grilled cheese, it started right back up again. Everything was completely intact -- he says it even displayed the correct date. Pretty impressive for Apple's little music player (and mine's even stuffed in a Vaja case, so I know it'll always run for me -- assuming I don't drop it in a pile of snow somewhere). He says there is a name on the iPod, so if you've been around the Whitehorse area and have recently dropped your iPod near a place called Takhini School, leave him a note and he will probably be able to get it back to you. But do it quick -- he's giving things about a week, and then it's finder's keepers. We don't blame him: who wouldn't want an indestructible iPod?
