Capcom has dropped a veritable swarm of Lost Planet 2 Avatar goodies onto Xbox live. Most of the gear is comprised of clothing from the various factions in the game -- but we all know that the stars of the show in Lost Planet 2 are the creepy, crawly Akrid. Unfortunately, you can only snag one of the giant bugs via the Avatar Marketplace: Gordiant, otherwise known as "that giant salamander thing." As you can see, it's not quite as threatening in Avatar pet form. In fact, it's kind of adorable. You can see Gordiant and the rest of the Lost Planet 2 Avatar collection here.

Cosplay enthusiasts will tell you: making costumes based on your favorite fictional characters can be expensive. Depending on how accurate a recreation you're going for, you can drop some serious duckets on materials. Not to mention the trouble of explaining to your parents who Marcus Phoenix is and why you would want to dress up like him. That's why we'd like to inform you of the latest Avatar Marketplace update, a cheaper alternative for your fixation with dress-up. Two new game styles are available: A World of Keflings and Army of Two. You can find a plethora of branded hats and shirts from each title, as well as some full body costumes -- you can see the Ninja Bee outfit above. Diesel now has an "apparel collection" available for Avatars through the Xbox Live Marketplace. The designs are based on the company's spring/summer 2010 collection, with t-shirts costing 80 ($1) and a pair of jeans for 160 ($2). Diesel plans to update the collection every season so that, in the company's words, "now, more than ever, you have the ability to dress your Avatars according to your personal style and taste." Now, let's play a game: The Avatar in the back, second from the left is wearing "Viker 8A7" jeans. If you think paying $2 for some pre-cut jeans on your Avatar is silly, take a guess how much those jeans cost in real life? (See the answer after the break.) There's going to be some solid content on Xbox Live Marketplace this month. In the mood for XBLA games? How does Rocket Knight or Zeno Clash tickle your fancy? Oh, so you want some DLC -- Dragon Age: Origins will have more to offer the tireless adventurer later this month. Want to learn the Secret of Monkey Island? On a crusade for some fresh Avatar gear? A couple of new Dante's Inferno items just popped up in the Avatar Marketplace, including the cuddly little Phlegyas Pet you see above. Look at the 'lil guy, ain't he cute? On top of that, there's also a branded tee and hat, as well as the full outfit Dante sports in the game. Hey, it's gotta be better than watching your Avatar sew some thread through its flesh, right?

Look, we can sit here and tell you about the flashy pimp duds and other Saints Row 2 Avatar items available on Xbox Live Marketplace right now, but we just can't get beyond the inclusion of the pictured hot dog suit. Even at 400 ($5), we're tempted. Not only is it a great way to support one of the delicious staples of the American diet, but it also means you don't have to play Saints Row 2, go the Mall area and pick one up from the "Let's Pretend" store just to satiate your hot dog dress wear needs. Hooray for cutting corners with cash!

  • After Burner Climax comes with Avatar Awards

It's a proven fact that absolutely everyone likes Avatar Awards. Unlike the goodies in the Avatar Marketplace, Avatar Awards are free and, in many cases, provide a highly visible way to show off your gaming prowess. Several titles have offered Avatar Awards thus far -- including Left 4 Dead 2, 'Splosion Man, Halo Waypoint -- and now we have one more to add to the list: After Burner Climax. The game packs two Avatar Awards. The first is a T-shirt, awarded simply for unlocking all the game's EX options, which Sega notes "anybody" should be able to do with continued play. The second, the sweet pilot's helmet you see above, is a little trickier to unlock and requires players to complete their medal collections in the score attack mode, which "takes some serious skill," according to Sega. Unfortunately, it looks like Sega missed a golden opportunity here. Where's our remote control jet?

Attention Gears heads: the promised Gears of War 3 Avatar items are now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. So far there are eight items in the collection, including T-shirts, sleeveless COG armor, a hat, and, sweetest of all, a Ticker Avatar pet. The items range in price from 80 ($1) to 320 ($4). Granted, it's not the same as actually playing Gears of War 3 -- which you won't be doing until next year -- but at least you can pretend, right?

Download in HD from Big DownloadCapcom's been pretty vocal about the changes made to Super Street Fighter IV compared to last year's edition. We've seen a plethora of new characters, read about tweaks to existing characters and have been given a small taste of what's to come from the revamped online system. In the case of that last item, the above video goes into a lot more detail than we've been privy to before -- including Tournament mode, a free DLC extra that will let players throw down "with the top players from around the world" on June 15, 2010. In addition, Xbox Live users will be able to dress up their Avatars in slick Street Fighter outfits. Doing so in the privacy of your own dashboard is just one of the acceptable ways in which to show your love for Chun-Li's kick-ass clothing. %Gallery-91174%

Do you have any idea how hard it is for your Xbox Live Avatar to see when your 360 is turned off? It gets so dark in there without the console power button's emerald (or, sometimes, ruby) luminescence. Why not lend your tiny homunculus a hand by picking up the Modern Warfare 2 Avatar Night Vision Goggles, which Microsoft and Infinity Ward are handing out for free until Sunday, 11:59 pm PT? It's a lot cheaper than constantly leaving your system turned on, and it makes it look like you're wearing Johnny 5's head as a sort of trophy, which is ... totally sweet, right? If you like rare Avatar gear, then this post is for you! As it did during PAX 2009, Microsoft is readying a special Avatar item for the very first PAX East. Initially revealed by Microsoft's Eric "e" Neustadt via Twitpic, Microsoft has provided us some higher fidelity images for you to enjoy. The front of the hoodie features the PAX East logo and the back sports the word "Boston" with Crackdown orbs for Os. Very spiffy. Microsoft hasn't announced how to get your digital hands on one of these babies. Assuming it works the same way as the PAX 2009 Avatar shirt, the PAX East hoodie will be given out exclusively at the event itself. Rest assured, if we come across any, we'll share the love and give them away.

  • BioShock 2 Avatar items come to Xbox Live

    by
    Justin McElroy
    Justin McElroy
    02.09.2010

The following comes to us from the BioShock Wiki: "Big Daddies are genetically-enhanced human beings who have had their skin and organs grafted into an enormous diving suit. The candidates also go through voice box modification and pheromone application. They are then placed in large vats with a substance that effectively turns them into mindless drones. With gene splicing, the humans inside the suits were given enhanced strength and agility." ... Or they could have just paid 320 points ($4) on Xbox Live. Jeez, we guess Andrew Ryan wasn't so smart after all. (Related note: If you spend $4 on a Big Daddy costume for your Avatar, you are, legally speaking, no longer entitled to the sweat of your own brow. Sorry.)
