  • Bad Company 2 getting updated BC1 maps (and more) in VIP Map Pack 7

It may have taken six map unlocks before DICE got to it, but the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 developer announced this morning that VIP Map Pack 7 will include four new(ish) multiplayer maps: Heavy Metal, Cold War, Oasis, and Harvest Day. If the latter two maps sound familiar, it's because they're updated versions of maps that appeared in the original Bad Company -- handpicked with the community in mind. "When we ask for your favorite maps from Battlefield: Bad Company, Oasis and Harvest Day always come out on top," the DLC's announcement reads. As with previous map packs, the DLC will be free for VIP members only (VIP access is free with new copies of BC2, $15 otherwise). Outside of a handful of (relatively minor) tweaks noted on the Battlefield blog, the biggest change to the maps will be the addition of Bad Company 2's "Destruction 2.0" system and enhanced graphics. Check out the first shots of the revamped maps in the gallery below and look for a more in-depth exploration of Heavy Metal this Wednesday. Hopefully Wednesday will bring news of a release date as well.%Gallery-106979%

EA's mobile offerings aren't the only games the publisher is marking down in honor of this most spooky holiday -- the EA Store currently has half-off deals on PC blockbusters like Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Dead Space. Peep all the temporarily low prices below.

A rather significant -- at least, in size -- 900MB patch is available now for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on PC. Although there are several changes that any Battlefield: BC2 veteran will welcome, our favorite is: "Reduced all weapon damage to the MCOM by 50%." It's not as progressive as "made head of anyone who drops C4 on MCOM explode," but we'll take it as a start. We're currently following up with EA on whether it plans to make these updates to the console versions of the game before Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam launches this winter. Check out the patch details after the break.

EA wants to makes sure you can play Battlefield no matter where you are -- provided you can access the App Store's version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. • NBA Elite 11 still coming this month ... to iPhone

EA might have stopped the presses of NBA Elite 11 console discs, but the iPhone version is still on track for release this month, according to EA Mobile. The division announced its fall lineup today, with FIFA 11 and EA Sports MMA rounding out the sports titles for iPhone (and iPod Touch) in October. Additionally, Heroes Lore, a popular mobile RPG in Korea (we're told), will be released this month in the App Store. An iPhone version of Battlefield Bad Company 2, "based on the best-selling console game," leads EA Mobile's November charge, which includes High Caliber Hunting, a Retina Display-enhanced critter capper, featuring a multitude of brand-name firearms and gear. For iPad? There's SimCity Deluxe. And for poor Android this fall? Just ... the Game of Life.

  • EA giving free game to disgruntled APB buyers [Updated]

reddit_url = "http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/27/ea-giving-free-game-to-disgruntled-apb-buyers/"; Tweet Ticked off about the recent closure of Realtime Worlds' All Points Bulletin? Well you're not alone, and surprisingly enough it seems like Electronic Arts has heard your cries for justice. According to reports from CVG and SavyGamer, the publishing giant is ponying up a free download from the EA Store for customers who purchased APB via Valve's Steam digital distribution platform. The list of possible freebies is nothing to sneeze at either, as it includes BioWare darlings Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins, as well as Spore, The Saboteur, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and several more. There's currently no word on refunds or compensation for those who purchased the ill-fated urban crime MMOFPS from retail outlets or other digital shops. [Editor's Note: Having just gone through this process myself, I can tell you that it's easy and virtually painless. Simply visit www.ea.com, choose your country of origin, visit the support link in the upper right hand corner, and log into your EA account. Once that's done, click the "contact us/email us" button to create a new question to ask the EA support representatives. Select APB as the game in question and tell them that you own the game, where you bought it, and that you'd like to take advantage of their refund offer. The representative will ask you to make a list of games you'd like (pre-order titles are excluded and only games in the EA store are being offered) and that's it! Once you send your list, they'll give you a game (most likely your first choice) and you can download it using their instructions. ~Seraphina]

  • Xbox Live subscribers can vote for upcoming Deal of the Week

Microsoft has put an interesting turn on its weekly rotation of discounted items on Xbox Live -- the Spotlight tab on the console's dashboard currently includes a poll which will let users choose which of a handful of items they'd like to have marked down for an undisclosed week in October. These discounts include 33 percent off DeathSpank, half off Perfect Dark, or similar markdowns on DLC for Dragon Age: Origins, Trials HD and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. It would be unethical for us to use our considerable internet power to get you to pick the thing that we'd like to pick up at a discounted price, so we'll refrain from doing so. Instead, we'll just have to rely on the same remote mind-control tactics we've been using to puppeteer your every action for the past four years now. That's right, Brandon, we're inside your mind.

  • Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam launching only as DLC

There was some confusion surrounding Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam, the first expansion to DICE's well-received shooter. Following the initial announcement at E3 2010, EA has resolved the question of distribution -- it'll only be available digitally as Bad Company 2 DLC -- and described more of the features included with the map pack (which has missed inclusion in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Ultimate Edition). Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam will add four new multiplayer maps, as well as 15 new weapons and six vehicles, all congruous with the new 1960s locale and Bad Company 2's universal experience point system. Among other era-specific items, you'll gain access to the M79 grenade launcher, the Navy SEAL XM22 machine gun, the American Huey helicopter and the Russian T54 tank. The DLC, which requires the Bad Company 2 game disc, will retain the game's universal experience points and add ten new Achievements and Trophies. Oh, and there's a "rocking 60s soundtrack" composed of 49 tracks (including "Fortunate Son" by CCR and "Ride of the Valkyries") spread over eight in-game radio channels. Like, just dig into a foxhole and listen to the tunes, dude. Why you gotta be so violent? Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam is on track for a Winter 2010 release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. EA has yet to budge on the issue of price, though we expect it to remain competitive with less elaborate map packs. Update: The video that originally accompanied this post has been disabled at the request of EA, who only got limited-use rights to one of the songs featured in it. D'oh! %Gallery-102269%

Amazon's deal of the day is Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Ultimate Edition at 33 percent off, for $40. ThriftyNerd noticed the discounted bundle -- which was just officially announced last week -- which includes the original game (w/ VIP access), Onslaught mode, Battlefield 1943 and items that were initially available through the "limited edition" back in March. For those who still haven't played Battlefield: Bad Company 2: the single-player campaign isn't anything special, but get some friends together in a squad and you've got some of the best multiplayer this year. %Gallery-93433%

EA officially announced this morning that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Ultimate Edition will be available at retail for $60 on Xbox 360 and PS3 ... um, today. Leaked by retail sites earlier this month, the package includes the main game, Onslaught mode, Battlefield 1943 and items originally included in the limited edition. The "ultimate edition" moniker gives this package a feeling of finality we aren't exactly comfortable with. Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam, the multiplayer expansion for the game, is still allegedly scheduled for Winter 2010. So, if that ever gets bundled in, what? It'll be Super Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Ultimate Edition Turbo HD Remix?

Anyone waiting for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 to get the "Game of the Year" treatment may hit pay dirt soon enough. The Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Ultimate Edition has been spotted on a couple of retail sites -- ShopTo.Net in the UK and Amazon in the US. The game appears to contain all the downloadable content released thus far, including all the VIP content, the limited edition unlocks and the four-player Onslaught Mode, as well as DICE's online-only XBLA and PSN game, Battlefield 1943. Amazon has PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions listed at $59.99 for August 31st. It's worth noting that Onslaught is actually the only pay-for DLC ($10) included on the Ultimate Edition. The VIP content normally comes free with new copies of the standard edition, and the Limited Edition bonuses -- apart from the two weapons from 1943 -- can be unlocked the old-fashioned way (by playing the game!). Since the older version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 retails for $40 or less, it becomes a question of whether you want the included Battlefield 1943 with an effective discount of $5 (its regular price is $15). We've contacted EA and will update this post if we receive any official details on the Ultimate Edition. [Thanks, Eric]

    07.13.2010

PC gamers, have you been hiding in your foxhole, waiting for communications from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 command regarding the new DLC mode, Onslaught? Well buck up, soldier -- we've got good news. It's headed your way. Confirmation comes courtesy of PC Gamer, who regrettably weren't able to secure intel regarding potential price point and date of availability for the co-op mode. Onslaught adds objective-based gameplay to four maps: Valparaiso, Atacama Desert, Isla Inocentes, and Nelson Bay. Here, up to a squad of four players must secure objective points and battle waves of CPU-controlled enemies. Onslaught mode is currently available on the Xbox 360 and PS3 for 800 Microsoft Points and $9.99, respectively. Update: Looks like PC Gamer slipped up, as DICE's community manager Daniel recently said on Twitter the article "is not accurate" and that DICE is "currently researching if Onslaught will be on PC. No release date." We'll keep you posted.

Two "new" maps have been added to Battlefield: Bad Company 2, free to Xbox 360 and PS3 players who bought the game new and registered their VIP codes. PC players will unlock the new maps through an in-game patch. Atacama Desert has been added to Rush Mode, while Conquest mode has seen Port Valdez added to the rotation. And when will new (no quotation marks) maps drop into the popular first-person shooter? It's looking more and more likely that the recently announced Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam expansion (coming "winter 2010") will be the first add-on to include new terrain. Check out a video featuring the latest map update after the break.
