If you're among those buying Sony's brand new home console tomorrow and know you will buy-in on PlayStation Plus for a lengthy period of time, then Sony wants to give you more PSN credit. Those that pick up a brand new PS4 and a year-long subscription to PlayStation Plus tomorrow will receive a $10 PlayStation Store voucher. The $10 coupon is separate from the one packaged with the system, which accompanies a 30-day trial of PlayStation Plus. The deal is only good at physical GameStop and Best Buy locations as well as online through Newegg and is only valid tomorrow, the day the PlayStation 4 is no longer a hunk of hardware you can only read about, but one you get to hold. If you haven't done enough reading about it though, we have plenty of information to prepare you to be a PS4 owner, including our review of the hardware itself.

  • Best Buy to offer 20% off new games for two years with revamped Gamers Club Unlocked memberships

    11.09.2013

Best Buy will be changing their Gamers Club program soon. The new Gamers Club Unlocked membership will cost $119.99 and last for two years, during which the big blue retailer will allow customers to save 20 percent off new games, as well as a host of additional benefits. The change is slated to go live November 10. A Best Buy representative told Polygon that the cost of Gamers Club Unlocked is equivalent to the savings a customer would earn buying 10 games over the course of the membership's two-year length. This calculation assumes said games cost $59.99 each, thus saving the hypothetical customer $11.99 per game. Those who opt into the program will also receive double My Best Buy points for every dollar spent on games, accessories and DLC, as well as double points for every dollar received for trade-ins. Similar to GameStop's PowerUp Rewards card, the Gamers Club Unlocked membership will also save customers 10 percent on pre-owned games, and earn them 10 percent extra when they trade in. Gamers Club Unlocked memberships will also be part of an "Epic Gaming Package" deal for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Packages consist of one system, an extra controller, two new games, a two-year subscription to either PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live, a two-year Geek Squad protection plan, and a Gamers Club Unlocked Membership. The PS4 package will cost $800, for a total savings of $89.92, while an Xbox One package will run you $880, and save you $109.93. That's a lot of information to take in, but we expect you'll hear it again the next time you stop at your local Best Buy. In the meantime, if you've got questions about the packages, Best Buy has an FAQ page to help you out.

You can pick the G Pad 8.3 online now through Best Buy's site -- and, should you actually want to see that 1920 x 1200 display before dropping $350 on the thing, it will be arriving in Best Buy stores on November 3rd. More info -- including a quick spec refresher -- can be had in the press release after the break.

  • Sony: Try the PS4 at newly installed demo kiosks

Sony's got good news for those of you hoping to test out the PlayStation 4 prior to its launch: By visiting select retailers, players can try the PS4 right this very minute. According to Sony, these demo kiosks will be gradually rolled out over the coming weeks, leading up to the PS4 launch. Sony Stores, GameStop, Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy are most likely to receive kiosks first, though Sony claims that other retailers will also be participating. This means nothing to you if there's not a participating store in your area, but helpfully Sony has also issued a list of which stores now feature PS4 kiosks. If you visit Experience PlayStation and enter your zip code, you'll be presented with a map of all stores carrying PS4 demo stations within your area. The system seems to be a bit glitchy at the moment - according to Experience PlayStation, the PS4 kiosk nearest my apartment is supposedly inside "The Wood Doctor," a hardware store specializing in kitchen remodeling - but Sony has assured us that this is a temporary problem.

Best Buy has announced on its website that it is giving a $50 gift card to anyone who purchases an iPhone 5c with a two-year contract. The offer is good between now and close of business on Monday, October 7th and available only in-store or with in-store pickup. Both the 16 GB and 32 GB models in any color are valid for the $50 gift card offer. It's also important to note that the $50 gift card can not be used to pay for part of the iPhone, and is only valid towards future purchases. It's rare to see significant promos like this so early in an iPhone's release cycle, so if you're in the market for a 5c, now's the time to snap it up from Best Buy.

See that? It's an HTC One, programmed for use on Verizon's airwaves, and it's blue. Moreover, it's at Best Buy, and if you're lucky, you'll be able to pick one up yourself as early as tonight. If you'll recall, we had heard that Sprint was aiming to ship the aforesaid device on September 10th, but according to our tipster, these are hitting backrooms as we speak. Full retail is pegged at $699.99, but you can bet that a variety of contractual options will be available, too. Update: Another stellar tipster has provided us with a photo of the phone's front, which you'll find after the break. Additionally, we're told that the back of the blue HTC One is one full piece of metal, with painted accent stripes. Maybe you'll head to a Verizon store this weekend and check it out for yourself. • Best Buy offers $10 Xbox One upgrade on select games

    by
    Earnest Cavalli

    09.03.2013

Best Buy has rolled out a program offering $10 next-gen upgrades for a handful of coming games, similar to systems put in place at Gamestop and Amazon. Included in the list of eligible games are FIFA 14, Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and Watch Dogs. Exactly how you score your cheap upgrade is where things get complicated. According to Best Buy's official site, if you purchase one of the above games within a set period after its release (most can be picked up as much as a month after release day), you'll be given a $10 coupon to be put toward your game's Xbox One incarnation. When you want to upgrade, you must present this coupon as well as the Xbox 360 game. Best Buy will then give you $40 store credit in exchange for the game, reducing the final cost of your new Xbox One game to $10 (unless the Xbox One version has a retail price greater than $60; in that case you'll be paying the remainder as well). If this scheme sounds intriguing, you should also note that all such upgrades must occur by December 31. Full legal details and all the fine print you can digest can be found on Best Buy's official site.

  • iPhone 5's are 50% off with iPhone 4/4S trade-in at Best Buy this weekend

    by
    Michael Grothaus

    08.30.2013

Starting today and running through September 2, US big-box store Best Buy is offering 50 percent off an iPhone 5 when you trade in your old iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S. In order to qualify for the trade-in program, which was first noticed by AppleInsider, customers' iPhone 4's and 4S's need to be able to be powered on and free from water damage. By trading in their old working iPhones, customers can choose the 16 GB or 32 GB model of the iPhone 5, but they also need to sign up for a two-year contract. The deal is also contingent upon the customer being eligible for an upgrade. The Best Buy trade-in starts on the day Apple's iPhone "Reuse and Recycle" in-store trade-in program is supposed to begin in select Apple stores. Trade-in programs have many benefits for retailers as it gets customers buying the latest models and also gives those retailers used iPhones, which can then be shipped overseas and sold for higher prices in emerging markets, while still being at a lower cost point than what that latest iPhone 5 would cost. The trade-in program also doesn't hurt to help move existing iPhone 5 stock ahead of what is likely the release of a new model in just a few weeks' time.

If competition is good for consumers, then the phone trade-in market is looking up. Best Buy, Walmart, Gazelle and your mobile provider all accept trade-ins on old iPhones, giving you money to upgrade to a new phone. Now Apple is launching its own trade-in program at select Apple Stores starting on August 30, with a larger expansion of the program coming in September. Regardless of whether you're a business or standard customer, if you want to purchase a new iPhone, your trade-in is welcome at Apple. 9to5mac.com published the following details about the program. Apple decides the value of your iPhone based on information entered into the standard EasyPay system. The system takes into account the quality of your phone -- button quality, damage, if the display is scratched, if you engraved "I love Slayer" on the back, etc. -- and then calculates your trade-in amount. Apple Store employees will help you back up your iPhone before turning it in, and will hand over your old SIM card (the iPhone 5 uses the new nano-SIM card format). iPhones of all generations are eligible for trade-in, though obviously you'll receive less money for an iPhone 3G than an iPhone 5. As of now, the program is only available in the United States. You may want to shop around a bit before heading to the Apple Store, though. As 9to5mac.com has noted Gazelle offers significantly more for a iPhone 5 16 GB than Apple's own store. The online trade-in destination has been working hard to get as much iPhone business as possible before the September 10 announcement of new Apple products.

Select titles from the PS3's Greatest Hits library are also available for $15 apiece. Still, this pack is a nice way to save on a memory card and some on-the-go online gaming. If you'd prefer to sidestep some savings and spend more money later, the non-bundled version of the Wi-Fi Vita is also $200. A cut from the PS3's Greatest Hits library is also yours for cheap if you can beat others to the checkout. Playstation All Stars: Battle Royale, Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time, God of War: Origins Collection, Twisted Metal, Infamous 2, ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection, Killzone 3, LittleBigPlanet Karting, Gran Turismo 5: XL Edition, LittleBigPlanet 2: Special Edition and LittleBigPlanet: GOTY Edition are all available in limited quantities for $15. Playstation All-Stars and Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time are also crossplay compatible, meaning that you can pick up some cheap games for a cheap Vita.

  • New Nexus 7 to arrive today at Best Buy, ahead of schedule (update: confirmed)

A tipster has told us that the latest Nexus 7 from Asus and Google will hit Best Buy stores today, and a pre-order we placed earlier for the device seems to confirm that. We put our money down for one when the order page first went up, and while the confirmation originally said it would arrive on the original July 30th launch date, it's now telling us that we can expect our tablet later today. That jibes with info we were given by a source claiming to be the manager of a Best Buy store. He said that while pre-orders started yesterday, "there were few (of them) in my region," meaning that "if you are present at a (Best Buy) location today at opening, you have a good chance of buying the tablet." He added that some stores don't have stock yet due to agreements with Google, but pre-orders are still possible at those locations. Until we receive confirmation, however, you may not want to make a long journey to one of the outlets. Meanwhile, we've reached out to both Google and Best Buy. Update: Best Buy has touched base, telling us "we can confirm that the Nexus is available at all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores and BestBuy.com now." [Thanks, Anonymous]
