According to internet murmurings, those who complete the PlayStation 3 version of BioShock are not only awarded the satisfaction of having caught up with their Xbox 360 and PC peers, but a brief teaser trailer for the franchise's next installment. The game, dubbed "Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams," appears to take place sometime after the original -- and somewhere along the Atlantic coast. Check out the video (from N4G user, "TheWho") after the break! We've contacted 2K Games for confirmation and further information. [Image: N4G]

BioShock snuck onto shelves this week, despite being previously scheduled for an October 24th release in Europe. As a result, some people have now beat the game which, apparently, unlocks a teaser trailer for BioShock 2: Sea Of Dreams. One N4G user has taken a few snapshots and will be uploading a video of the 15-second teaser soon. The snap shots show what appears to be a Little Sister, all grown up, standing on the shore with a Big Daddy plushy dangling from her hand. This all seems true enough, but we've contacted 2K Games in order to get a statement, just in case. We'll let you know what they say. In the mean time, take a look at the screenshots and video listed on N4G. Look real to you?[UPDATE] Video embedded above. Thanks TheWho!

  • Ken Levine's role in BioShock 2 not 'material'

Besides working on "Super Secret Project That We're Dying to Find Out About X," Ken Levine also has an involvement of some sort with the follow-up to his hit BioShock, as well as the upcoming film based on the license. Heart-breakingly, he recently told OXM his work with BioShock 2 isn't really "material," that he's only "informally engaged in certain scenes."His involvement with the film is even harder to pin down. Levine said, "My job there is to be a friend to [director] Gore [Verbinski] and [writer] John [Logan], be a resource for them and kick ideas around with them. At the end of the day John's the writer and Gore's the director. I'm not the traffic cop."...Umm, if KennyL is hiring himself out as a friend, shouldn't we have been his first choice? Or at least been allowed to make an offer? We think he would have found our salary of numerous hugs and adoring stares very competitive.

  • Levine contract could include royalties from BioShock sequels

Ken Levine may be entering the upper echelon of game designers. According to a source from The New York Post, the BioShock creator is renegotiating his contract with Take-Two to allow more creative control over his projects and – this is the key – royalties (here called "points") "based on how much business the next installment of 'BioShock' and any other games that he develops produce." Given we don't know exactly to what extent Levine will be working on BioShock sequels, if at all, it's pretty interesting to hear that Levine could be given royalties for a creating a concept, even without working on a project directly. As noted by Variety, we'd only imagine a few notable game icons with this much weight (e.g. Sid Meier, Will Wright). This is all rumor at the moment, as neither Take Two's people or Levine's people are talking, but we're watching the re-negotiating (as are apparently the tabloids) closely.[Via The Cut Scene]

  • Bioshock 3 confirmed, likely coming with the movie

While it was assumed when there was an announcement of Bioshock 2, it's now been confirmed that the series is officially set to be a trilogy. In an investor conference call Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two CEO discussed the movie and the likelihood that it wouldn't be ready in time for the second game (duh) but that it could see release alongside the third in the series. Given the surprising sales of the first game and the potential of the IP at this point, Bioshock 3 is as sure of a thing now as Halo 3 was in 2003. That is to say financially guaranteed, but a long way off.

With just a handful of months to go before the annual Penny Arcade Expo opens its doors again, you may be wondering who will be taking to the stage to the deliver the August event's keynote address. Organizers have announced that the opening speech will be given by none other than 2K Boston president and creative director Ken Levine.Says Penny Arcade business mastermind, "Obviously, Ken is pimp supreme...We're super excited to have him open up the show." Given Levine's involvement with one of last year's biggest releases as well as a sequel that already ranks among our most anticipated in 2009, we're sure he'll have plenty to talk about -- and we expect to be left hanging on every word.

  • 2K Marin job listing states that "PS3 experience is required"

This one is a bit confusing. We know 2K Marin are working on Bioshock 2 which, we assumed, would be a 360 exclusive like its big daddy brother. The cognitive water begins to get muddy, however, when we look at 2K Marin's job listings. While the jobs aren't necessarily for Bioshock 2, the game isn't due out until next year and we would be surprised if Marin are working on two titles simultaneously -- especially when Bioshock 2 is such a high-profile game. The listing for a role as Level Designer states that "PlayStation 3 experience is required," while others don't mention specific platforms. 2K Boston was looking for PS3 programmers back before 2K Marin was formed. For all we know they might've snuck over to Marin to stay with the Bioshock license. Could this mean we could be seeing Bioshock 2 hit the PS3? It's a solid theory, given the evidence, but is far from proven. We played this "will it, won't it" game with Bioshock 1 last year, so until we hear confirmation we're letting the rumor lay out there for you guys to discuss. [Via GameGuru]

  • Bioshock 2: "Rube Goldberg machines of death"

Next Generation was able to catch up with 2K Marin Creative Director, Jordan Thomas, after a presentation on emergent gameplay he delivered at University of Teesside's Animex festival. Next Gen's interview is in the main concerned with gameplay theory, but towards the end shifts focus to Bioshock 2. As his presentation and interview had to do with emergent gameplay, Next Gen assumes that this will be a larger focus in Bioshock 2. Thomas comments that "I really like the idea of the player being able to create dynamic physical attachments – Rube Goldberg machines of death!" which gives us a pretty good idea of the creative direction that the sequel will be taking.Along with that choice quote was another one that was hopefully a bit more of a promise than a hyperbole: "in the future I'll want to generate much more of that – maybe give the player the ability to steal superpowers from characters that are wandering around the world, or alter their behavior in ways that amount to more than just getting them to fight each other. There's a lot of potential real estate there." So long as they make good on that potential, we'll be here to play it.

  • The Digital Continuum: Bioshock MMO

A torrent of happy thoughts burst forward from my brain at the rumor of a possible Bioshock MMO; Would it be good? When would it be set? Where would it even be set, Rapture, or some other previously unknown location? What kind of gameplay would it employ? These questions -- and many more like them -- are all great and also quite valid. This is why I couldn't help myself from exploring the possibilities of what such a game could deliver to us as players -- except with a particular twist. Being that Andrew Ryan was so very influential in both the world of Rapture as well as our own, this entire look into a Bioshock MMO has been written in the spirit of Mr. Ryan. With a fan-base as strong as the Big Daddies themselves, Bioshock could create quite the tsunami if it went massively multiplayer. We got this information from yesterday's Take Two earnings call, but we wanted to break it out just to make sure you BioShock fans out there could get some sleep tonight. Chairman Strauss Zelnick stated during the call that series creator Ken Levine "will be working on BioShock 2."Now, it remains to be seen whether he'll be working on the game or just sending encouraging email forwards about angels and pictures of cats hanging on branches to the 2K Marin team doing the bulk of the work. As gigantic, total, militant fans of BioShock, we certainly hope it's the former.

  • BioShock 2 announced, drops Q4 2009

After BioShock was met with critical and commercial success the prospect of a sequel seemed to be a foregone conclusion and today 2K Games finally admitted that the title is in the works. The surprising news is that 2K Boston, formally Irrational Games, will not be at the helm of BioShock 2's development, rather the job has been tasked to 2K Marin, who are reportedly staffed with former Irrational Games members. No involvement from Ken Levine was mentioned during the announcement. The info dropped from an investor relations report 2K released today. With talks of an impending buyout on the horizon for parent company Take Two, the timing of this announcement couldn't be better. While the average gamer doesn't care about the business side of the industry, it will be interesting to see how Take Two's stock spikes based on the announcement. Either way, gamers can expect to take-out another group of Big Daddies in the last months of 2009 - so start lining up. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in. Via, Joystiq]

  • BioShock 2 due in fiscal Q4 2009 from 2K Marin

After sales of brainy first-person shooter BioShock were so strong, a sequel seemed like all but a foregone conclusion. 2K Games put any remaining doubt to bed today, revealing that BioShock 2 is due to hit shelves in the fourth fiscal quarter of 2009, which would put it between August and October of 2009. The game is being developed not by Ken Levine's 2K Boston, but rather 2K Marin, which reportedly has some BioShock staffers on board. At this point, we don't know what (if any) involvement Levine will have, nor do we know what systems it will be on.The info came in an investor relations report released by the company today. Even though we figured the game was in the works, we have to admit we're a little surprised by the window, just two years after its predecessor. But you're not going to hear us complaining. If it means more Big Daddies and Little Sisters, we don't really care where we get it.

  • Gorgeous but totally unofficial BioShock 2 art

As a preemptive warning to those searching for any BioShock 2 news, details or leaked assets. This concept art isn't real. Well, actually, let us re-phrase that. This concept art is real, but is not tied to the yet to be announced BioShock 2 and is actually the work of a talented artist by the name of Ben Mauro. The reason the artwork looks very BioShock'esque is because Mr. Mauro actually took inspiration from BioShock to create the concept art and a BioShock 2 "pitch" for his college architecture course. We think everyone can agree that it's lovely art and it makes our head ponder what will be in the BioShock sequel ... what ideas we have.[Via CVG]
