After confirming Kid Icarus for the Wii, Matt Cassassminasiissanisina from IGN has made a wee comment that's sure to disappoint gamers around the globe: "Uh-oh. Looks like we're going to have to wait a little longer than E3 to see the kid fly again. Not too long, though, hopefully." Well, at least we won't waste our time during the Nintendo press conference hoping and praying for a Kid Icarus showing. Instead, we can focus on filling up the remaining spaces on our lovely E3 Bingo cards.

There's a big game coming for the Wii this holiday -- we know this because Reggie said so -- and IGN's Matt Cassa Casamasi C. has virtually confirmed what most had anticipated: it's Kid Icarus. Speaking on IGN's most recent Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, Casamassina blurted: "Of course [Nintendo is] going to have some E3 surprises. You know, Kid Icarus, for crying out loud, how many times do we have to say Kid Icarus? Kid Icarus is coming for crying out loud."So there you go -- can't say we're hugely surprised to hear of Pit's return, but that doesn't mean we're looking forward to it any less. Casamassina refused to reveal who was behind it, but we hear the folks at Retro are currently kicking back and taking a break from the Metroid universe ... ** Wanton speculation.[Via Joystiq]

  • IGN's Casamassina says new Medal of Honor 'beats the pants off Metroid Prime 3' controls

With equal parts vindication and deep personal loss in his life, IGN's resident Nintendo fanboy Matt Casamassina seized the moment and spent a little time blogging. The big revelation is that he believes the upcoming Medal of Honor Heroes 2 is a new benchmark in Wii FPS controls. He says there is a video coming in the near future, but for now says, "[MoHH2] officially beats the pants off Metroid Prime 3 in the the FPS control department." Casamassina also says while speaking with Shingo Mukaitoge (Elebits, Dewy's Adventure) that the game producer "paused for a moment, smiled, and would only say, 'That's a secret.'" in regards to an Elebits sequel. Mukaitoge says his team is already working on a new Wii project and will announce it soon. We're kinda looking forward to another Elebits. It's no secret that the game was a rush job for the Wii release, but it'd be interesting to see what the team could do with a little more time.

  • Proof that Halo DS was real (and it's still dead) [update 1]

We don't know what's weirder about the ongoing Halo DS story: that somebody decided to cancel what would have been an obvious cash cow for everyone involved, or that IGN's Matt Casamassina has been sitting on screens and video, and only decided to post them when he found out that people were making fun of him on Wikipedia. That means that keeping his promise to show us stuff "after E3" wasn't enough of a motivator, but ire from anonymous Wikipedia jerks caused him to spring into action. Whatever the reason, we're now a little sad that Halo DS is both real and dead, because it looked like fun. Seriously, it looks like a real Halo game. Kudos to the developers for almost pulling this off.The one-level demo (Zanzibar) seemed to be pretty complete, with textures, and music, and sound effects, and everything. Unfortunately, Matt cannot reveal the reason that this game was cancelled, nor can he tell us who was working on this, because he has to not tell us something. Check after the break for another video, and hit the link for more vaporous Halo.

  • Casamassina teases Halo DS again

Remember when IGN's Matt Casamassina said he was going to reveal a DS Halo game? No, the other time. The time when he said we were all going to be owned. Well, it didn't happen-- we'd probably remember if it did, and if we didn't, our search feature would. We don't feel owned.According to a post on the IGN forums by Mr. Casamassina, the ownage has merely been delayed until after E3. He's already drained pretty much any goodwill Halo fans may have had toward him, so he can afford to take his time. After being jerked around so long, we doubt we can be owned by Halo DS news.

  • Rumorang: Halo DS exhumed by IGN

We still can't decide if this is an exhumation by IGN, or if it's more like they buried the Halo DS in the Pet Cemetery and now it's come back all evil to kill all those who didn't believe it existed. IGN's Matt Casamassina opens up Pandora's box again and brings up the game he swore existed earlier this year to say that he'll be vindicated in a couple weeks."It's a real game, I played it a little while ago," said Casamassina on the Wii-k in review podcast. "A lot of people just don't believe that but we're going to lay down some ownage next week or soon afterward by showing you guys that it is a real game. So, you guys are about to be owned, all you naysayers." Tastefully one of Matt's co-hosts immediately follows it up by telling the naysayers, "Suck it long, suck it hard."If this does end up being true, the whole Wii60 idea may not be such a joke anymore. It would show a clear shaking of hands at one point between Microsoft and Nintendo. What's next? The original Halo on Wii? Conservatively, we could say that Microsoft just doesn't have a portable console so it wants to penetrate the field with software (and they obviously can't have it go on the PSP). Whatever it means for the future, both players would fiercely protect their franchises, but this does show signs of cooperation.[Via GameStooge]

The clues are beginning to come together: there's a countdown on the official site of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and some rumblings of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption news coming around May 20th. In this month once reserved for the mighty E3, it's been quite some time since Nintendo has held a major press conference. Finally, good 'ol Matt has made it perfectly clear in a recent IGN Mailbag: he's on his way to Seattle next week for some mysterious reason, and it's not for Starbucks.About freakin' time, Nintendo. For a company still claiming that the big three will release in 2007, they've been awfully tight-lipped about the impending trio. We look forward to bringing you some surely awesome news coming next week ... uh, you know, assuming that this actually happens.

  • Halo DS ... never existed?

Put on your sleuthing caps, ladies and gents, we have a bonafide mystery on our hands. Surely you remember, with chagrin and unfulfilled longing, the news of the canceled Halo DS project, reported by IGN editor-in-chief Matt Casamassina. He even went so far as to say that he played the title, and love him or hate him, Matt tends to speak verily. Enter: last night's San Francisco Halo 3 beta event. The Bungie team, responsible for the development of all things Halo, were interviewed by numerous gaming outlets and media sources, including one Rumor Reporter. When asked about the ill-fated Halo DS, Bungie's Brian Gerrard, Director of Franchise and Community Affairs, commented, "Wow, I have never heard or seen such a project, nor do we have plans for any DS Halo title."We doubt either of these two respected news sources were lying or mistaken, which leaves the question: who made the mysterious Halo DS, the one Matt C. played? There's only one obvious answer, of course.Shiggy made it.[Thanks, Bruce!]

  • Soul Calibur ... Adventure?

In this week's IGN Wii-k In Review podcast, Mr. Casamassina unleashed a rumor that promptly sent eighty-nine fans into spontaneous combustion (including poor David, his skin is coal black): Soul Calbur might be coming to the Wii. He refuses to speak the title by name, fearing some sort of silly massive lawsuit, but he comments that a very popular third-party fighting franchise seen on the Gamecube is coming to the Wii. Unless you count the import Naruto 3, Soul Calibur from Namco is pretty much the end-all-be-all of third-party fighting games on the 'Cube. However, he also comments that the franchise will no longer be seen as a fighting game, but as an adventure game. The mythos behind Soul Calibur certainly has the potential to drive a fully-fledged adventure, but will the play mechanics remain similar? And are we just getting this as a runner-up prize because the 360 and PS3 might receive the long-awaited Soul Calibur 4? Only Miss Cleo time will tell.
