  • Choose my Adventure: Flying through Aion

Join me as I brave my way through lands unknown in an adventure dictated entirely by you, the Massively readers! Vote for everything from game played to character creation to ultimate goal and watch it unfold in a series of journals and galleries here on the site. Then, as our two months is up, we'll do it all over again in a new game! With a brand new character chosen for me by you, I was ready to jump into the world of Aion for a timely double-XP weekend. After spending 45 minutes being reminded of how great the character creator is in this game, my male Asmodian mage was ready to set his (clawed) foot on the surface of Atreia for the first time. This edition of Choose my Adventure will focus on my impressions of the game as I progress, straying from the heavily-RP feel of the previous ones. After some careful thought, I realized that this might be a better way to do things, avoiding storyline spoilers along the way. So follow along after the jump for my adventures in Aion, as well as the polls to choose next week's journey.

It was a close race for a bit there, but NCsoft's Aion took the lead this week to become the fifth game we'll explore in the Choose my Adventure series. Now that the game is picked and we build our excitement towards the possibilities spent adventuring, we must focus on character creation. In this round of polls, you'll help me pick everything about my new character from gender to class to server and more. I think I can handle the hair and eyes bit.

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on US Zangarmarsh-H. So. What's with you people and orc warlocks? You voted that both Michael Sacco and Gregg Reece roll orc warlocks for their adventurers. Last week we had no WoW.com staff playing warlocks or orcs in our guild, and now we have two. When the polls go up on Friday for Christian Belt's character, you may want to be more creative. That's right -- Archmage Pants will be joining Choose My Adventure, because you demanded it. In other news, we'll be questing in Stonetalon Peak this week, when not crawling dungeons. And we have more polls today because Foxlight turned 10 on Friday and wants you to choose his talent tree and professions. But first, this week's schedule: Elizabeth Harper as Faience, the troll shaman, and Robin Torres as Robinemia, the undead mage: Monday and Wednesday, 11 p.m. to midnight EDT Michael Gray as Grayfields, the tauren hunter, will be making appearances as he can this week. Amy Schley as Patent, the troll rogue will also be making appearances as she can. Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, his new troll mage: some time Saturday. Adam Holisky as Adammentat, the tauren druid, will be making appearances as he can. Anne Stickney as Annephora, the troll warrior, will be on Tuesday at 1 a.m. EDT (which is Monday at 11 p.m. Zangarmarsh time). Fox Van Allen as Foxlight, the blood elf paladin: Friday, 8 p.m. EDT. • WoW Rookie: 10 ways to meet other new players

New around here? WoW Rookie points WoW's newest players to the basics of a good start in the World of Warcraft. See all our collected tips, tricks and how-to's at WoW.com's WoW Rookie Guide. Come out, come out, wherever you are ... We know you're out there leveling! The dungeon finder feature isn't the only way to meet new and leveling players – in fact, it's one of the worst, since you'll only occasionally be paired off with another player from your home realm. Today's WoW makes it possible to scuttle from the auction house to the dungeon finder without forming any lasting relationships to speak of at all. Here at WoW Rookie, we're all about enjoying the journey, rather than racing for the finish line. Let's go over the best ways, then, to join up with folks you can adventure with along the way. In ascending order: 10. Hit the dungeon finder. We know, we just said the dungeon finder is not a great way to make friends. It's not. That said, we've heard more than one tale of players who transferred realms to play with friends they met through the dungeon finder. You're more likely to find a compatible group for the length of a single evening than a permanent partnership that persists over the levels -- but hey, it could happen.

With our busy March and April behind us, we're ready to bring back the ever-popular Choose my Adventure series to our readers. As a small refresher, Choose my Adventure is where we head into a certain MMO with a brand new character to play out a six-week adventure, but the kicker is that YOU get to choose what that character does. From the game played, through character creation and beyond -- it's all up to you. This time though, we've decided to tweak the series a bit. Instead of asking for you to join us in these chosen adventures, they will mostly be done through PUGs or occasionally solo. The reason we're doing this is to focus our in-game time with readers on a whole slew of events we have planned, much like the highly successful Nights of Eberron for DDO. So let's start this back up by having you vote for which game we'll spend the next six weeks with. You'll have until next Wednesday to make your vote, at which time we'll starts the votes on character creation and get the journey started. Keep reading below for the game poll, now including more game choices than ever!

She would like readers to choose her talent tree and professions. Fox Van Allen will also be joining us and wants you to choose just about everything. Michael Gray as Grayfields would like his PvP pet chosen for him, and Matthew Rossi asks you to choose the talent tree for his mage. Otherwise, we will retain our marching orders from previous polls, as we have not yet leveled past them. Our remaining schedule for this week is: Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, his new troll mage: Saturday, 3-4 p.m. EDT Michael Gray as Grayfields, the tauren hunter, will be making appearances as he can this week. Adam Holisky as Adammentat, the tauren druid, will be making appearances as he can. The polls for next week are after the break.

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on US Zangarmarsh-H. Well there was no suspense about the vote for the last polls. Silverpine Forest and the Dungeon Finder were both ahead early and stayed that way the entire weekend. Robinemia has promised to stop whining, but keep in mind that she is Forsaken and therefore bad at both keeping promises and not being emo. Here is this week's schedule: Elizabeth Harper as Faience, the troll shaman, and Robin Torres as Robinemia, the undead mage: Monday and Thursday, 11 p.m. to midnight EDT Michael Gray as Grayfields, the tauren hunter, will be making appearances as he can this week. Amy Schley as Patent, the troll rogue: Thursday, 10-11 p.m. EDT Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, his new troll mage: Saturday, 3-4 p.m. EDT Adam Holisky as Adammentat, the tauren druid, will be making appearances as he can. Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on US Zangarmarsh-H. Robinemia speaks: I am tired of the Barrens. The constant orange glare is annoying. Also, I was promised something fun called "Barrens Chat" and was hoping to show off my wit and fashion sense to the locals while participating. Barrens Chat has been very quiet and most disappointing. I request that our questing grounds be changed to the cool environs of Silverpine Forest. Of course, I will abide by the majority vote. The polls for this week are about Robinemia's request and what dungeon to visit, if any. Also, don't forget that Gurubashi Beatdown II is this Sunday. You still have time to level up a DK to participate. The polls are after the break.

  • Choose My Adventure: To PvP or not to PvP?

    04.09.2010

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on US Zangarmarsh-H. We're on fire! Armaya sent in the above screenshot of Faience, Elizabeth Harper's shaman. But really, we're not so much on fire, leveling-wise. We are level 11 and above. This makes us just old enough to go into Warsong Gulch, but too young to think of Ragefire Chasm for the next week. You have already chosen The Barrens for our questing location during these next few levels, so this week's polls will be about adding PvP into the mix and choosing the professions for Amy Schley's rogue. Matthew Rossi is joining us next week and is giving you a chance to choose his class and race. We also have an extra-special, probably meaningless poll that you'll have to click through to see.

  • Choose My Adventure: Now we are 8

    by
    Robin Torres
    Robin Torres
    04.02.2010

In case you missed it, a few of the staff here at WoW.com are having you choose our adventures. We'll report next week on what we have done so far, but now it's time for you to choose where we will quest next. Many readers have suggested that we should stick to zones that will be changing when Cataclysm comes out. So after consulting what we know so far, I have only listed zones that we think will undergo at least a light change. If we don't think the zone will be touched, it isn't in the poll. This is rather limiting for the Horde, as that leaves out the easy-mode blood elf areas. Level 8 is an awkward age. It's high enough to want to change scenery but too low to quest efficiently in the next zone. So we have two polls for next week's adventuring: one for before level 10, and one for when we graduate to the next zone. Elizabeth Harper and I will also be choosing our talents according to what tree you pick. And Michael Gray wants you to choose his first pet. When voting, think about what fun adventures you would like to hear retold here, rather than how to have us level speedily. All polls are after the break.

  • Choose My Adventure: Who, when and where

    Robin Torres
    Robin Torres
    03.29.2010

You, the readers, have spoken and now our fates are sealed. Elizabeth Harper will be playing a troll shaman and I will be playing an undead mage. Because only blood elves can do their own first set of quests and because neither of us were chosen to be blood elves, we will all be starting in Mulgore, where the tauren begin their journeys. I have a question which I don't think anyone can really answer: why did such a huge percentage of you choose shaman for our Editor in Chief? I am just fascinated by how many of you chose that class without seeing the results first. Really, I can't wrap my brain around it. Also, I would like to thank you voters for keeping it exciting for me all weekend. Mage and rogue were neck and neck at all times, with mage only winning by a few votes by the time the polls closed. And then a technical error allowed votes to be tallied after the polls closed and rogue got more votes overnight. I'm too emotionally invested in Robinemia, the level 1 undead mage to change her to Robinasty the level 1 undead rogue due to some technical shenanigans. Besides, I think we're going to need a taxi later. Our schedule and how to join us is after the break.

We are very happy to announce that Choose My Adventure is returning to WoW.com. Previously, Alex Ziebart leveled Turpen according to the whims of readers. This time around, we have added even more reader participation and interaction: We will have many adventurers: Many of the staff will be having readers choose their adventures. We'll offer weekly polls and have you decide how we'll level that week. It came from the Blog will be our home: Our characters will all be Horde and are being created and played on Zangarmarsh (U.S.). We will post our play schedules: You will be able to join us on our adventures, as we will post the times we will be playing. You may have seen Shawn Schuster do this over on our sister site, Massively. More will be joining us, but we will begin with the following adventurers:

This being the last week in Fallen Earth for the Choose my Adventure group, we decided to have our own grand finale. Holding true to tradition, we had you vote on the location and type of party this was to be. You ultimately chose to do some zombie hunting in Sector 2's Newton, which really proved to be a good time! How much of a good time? How does a flaming totem pole made of GMs sound? A flaming GM-kabob, if you will? How about zombie boxing? Yeah, I'd say we had some fun. Check out the gallery below for some of my favorite screenshots taken through the last few weeks in the game and keep reading after the cut for more on our last day in Fallen Earth.%Gallery-87018%

Thanks to your votes last week, our Choose my Adventure Fallen Earth character has chosen his faction: Tech. I was sweating it a bit since I already have a CHOTA and Lightbearer character, but I would have gone however the vote chose. While not all of the clan has decided to go Tech (or decided at all), we opted to do our group nights in Sunshine Corners and leave the faction quests as an individual thing. But now that our last week is almost upon us, it's time to decide how to end this edition of Choose my Adventure the right way. Follow along for the in-character journal, more on what we did this week and the final poll.

I'm personally very excited about what's in store for us in this week's Choose my Adventure: Fallen Earth. With the last two months building up to this point, we're finally looking a faction decision right in the eye, and ready to leave Sector 1 behind us. Of course, before we do that, we have a tale to tell of the previous week's adventure in the Missile Silo and even the New Toro powerstation, just north of Trumbull. Sound like fun? Then follow along after the jump for the complete in-character journal, my impressions for the week and the long-awaited faction poll.
