  • Free for All: Charmed, Zentia, I'm sure

Charm is one of those words that, as a kid, I never really understood. I always pictured some southern gentleman, lemonade in hand, wooing powdered belles from his porch on a hot summer's day: that's how I defined it. But now I think I understand it so much more, and I often wonder why this industry seems to often ignore the word, or has no idea what it means. It's easiest to explain it this way: You cannot be charming by acting cool. If you act cool, it comes out cheesy. The movie The Matrix, for example: trying to act so incredibly cool, but comes off only cheesy. You must simply be cool to be charming. You can also be truly wide-eyed, which is charming. Or innocent, which is much rarer, but still charming. Be warned: Top Gun was considered very cool, and Tom Cruise very charming, in their time. Shirley Temple, mainly because of the time period her movies were made in, is still charming. A Christmas Story is very, very charming. Reese Witherspoon's work in Election? Oozes charm. Roy Orbison? Cool and charming, despite looking like a grandmother. The same applies to MMORPGs. Seriously. Some games are trying to be way too cool, and should just relax a bit. Be fun. I recently discovered one of the most charming games yet in Zentia.

You liked them, you grabbed them, and now we have more of them! Lands of Chaos Online has provided us with another 1,000 closed beta test keys to hand out to y'all, so grab them while they're still hot! Plus, if you missed our last giveaway, now's the time to strike! Lands of Chaos Online, or LOCO for short, is a Defense of the Ancients (DotA) styled game paired with traditional massively multiplayer mechanics, all wrapped up in a third-person shooter shell. It's a hybrid to the extreme, but it does provide for some fast-paced combat and hectic sessions of leveling. We took a look at the game during GDC 2010, so if you're interested in learning more about it, or seeing some trailers of the game in action, look no further than our coverage! So, need the details on how to get in on the ground floor? Jump after the break and we'll tell you all about it.

  • We're giving you closed beta keys to Kingdom Heroes, so you too can die to Lu Bu

Let's face it -- you can't defend that gate from Lu Bu. No matter how many times you try, he's just going to come in and clean the floor with your face. Your AI solders are nice to have along during your trek through the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, but they're not always bright enough to get out of the way of Lu Bu... or do anything useful for that matter. Just remember, Lu Bu is the Chinese Chuck Norris. Don't pursue him. So wouldn't it be nice to have some intelligent players around you while Lu Bu wipes the floor with your face? We think so. Then, at least, others can share in your pain. That's why today we have 5,000 keys for you, so you can access Aeria Games's latest MMO, Kingdom Heroes -- an MMO set in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. So, if you've gotten tired of playing Dynasty Warriors and wish to take on a character of your own, then look no further. Come for the ability to command a small army of your own, stay for the ability to own hundreds of people on the battlefield (except Lu Bu.) Plus take a leap after the break to check out a video of the game in action, so you can decide if this is a game you want to jump into.

If you're a fan of Perfect World Entertainment, or if you've enjoyed Battle of the Immortals, Jade Dynasty, Ether Saga Online, or Perfect World, then we've got something that will be right up your alley. It's called Forsaken World, and it's the next offering from the guys at PWE. Forsaken World is an interesting little title, as we've discussed on Massively before. Not only is a vampire-esque race counted amongst the game's races, but the game also features large scale plotlines and a varied group of classes. Forsaken World seems to be a very deep game, but none of us can say that for sure until we play it. And if you're looking to play the game, then just take a leap after the break to find out how to nab yourself a key!
