  • Curse of the Worgen #2 comic now on sale

    If you're like me and you enjoy both werewolves and comic books, then you'll be happy to hear that Curse of the Worgen #2 is now on sale. Published by DC Comics, Curse of the Worgen #2 continues the adventures of Detective Halford Ramsey as he investigates a string of grisly murders. It also looks into the history of this ferocious race, and the convoluted connections they hold with the night elf druids. I have the first issue myself, and I highly recommend this series. The script is by Micky Neilson and James Waugh, and art is by the famed Ludo Lullabi and Tony Washington. You can pick up Curse of the Worgen #2 online or at your local comic book retailer.

  • inFamous comic series to bridge gap between games

    Developer Sucker Punch and DC Comics are teaming up for an inFamous comic book that will bridge protagonist Cole McGrath's story from the first game to the sequel. The book will be written by William Harms, illustrated by Eric Nguyen, and will span six issues. Following Cole's revelation at the end of the first game, the comic will explore his move from "Empire City" (a.k.a. NYC) to "New Marais" (you know: New Orleans) to battle creepy, mutant things and prepare for ... well, you should go ahead and finish the first game before reading the comics. It's really good, we promise.

  • Assassin's Creed: The Fall comic book detailed in dev diary

    Outside of the comic's early 20th century Russia setting and the main character's name, little information has been released on the forthcoming Assassin's Creed comic, Assassin's Creed: The Fall; however, a developer diary released today details the comic's narrative, setting, main character, and how he fits into the franchise's overall timeline. Nikolai Orelov will be leaping from Russian rooftops and landing his (likely freezing cold) twin blades into the necks of important men like Tsar Alexander III. Perhaps most interesting about the dev diary is the comic team's tease at the end that their story could find its way into a future Assassin's Creed title. Though we stand by our desire for a post-Civil War, Reconstruction Era Assassin's Creed game, one set in the Russian revolution doesn't sound too shabby either.

  • Trion releases second issue of Rift: Planes of Telara comic book miniseries

    Trion Worlds' Rift: Planes of Telara publicity campaign is picking up a head of steam, and today marks an auspicious occasion for Rift fans who dig comic books as much as they do MMORPGs. In cooperation with noted comic publisher WildStorm, Trion has taken the wraps off another issue of the ongoing Telara Chronicles, a miniseries in four parts that tells the tale of a plane-touched warrior named Asha Catari. Today's second issue finds Asha leading a band of Ascended warriors deep behind enemy lines to retrieve a mysterious and ancient artifact that may play a large role in Telara's future. The series is authored by Ricardo Sanchez and inked by Pop Mhan, with covers by Drew Johnson and Lizzy John. You can find a copy of the Telara Chronicles at your local comic shop.

  • Parts 1 and 2 of Left 4 Dead 'The Sacrifice' comic now online

    Honestly, we would never have thought that [redacted] would be the character to bite the dust in "The Passing," but there it is. Sure, we could've pictured [redacted] dying, or [redacted] -- heck, even [redacted] -- but [redacted]? Life's a trip, qué no? Thing is, we never figured out how that particular survivor perished -- not until now. The first two parts of Valve's four-part, 150-page digital comic primer for "The Sacrifice," the upcoming DLC for Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, is now online. Give both issues a read by heading over to the Left 4 Dead Blog.

  • Rift: Planes of Telara introduces graphic novel and beta keys

    As development continues on Rift: Planes of Telara, Trion is moving beyond the confines of the computer screen and into comic retailers. Telara Chronicles is the game's graphic novel, and issue #1 introduces a four-part miniseries set in the world of Telara. Even better, that first issue comes with an exciting bonus. When you buy it at your local comic store, you can also get issue #0 and a Rift: Planes of Telara beta card. You can find more details on the miniseries story on the Planes of Telara Facebook page. There are a limited number of cards, and the graphic novels will arrive on retail shelves tomorrow, so check out your nearest comic shop!

  • Byron the Tauren Rogue: The cow, the legend, the gnome

    When I approached the editors of WoW.com to ask them if they'd be interested in letting me do some work, I was thrilled when they agreed and took me on. The creative freedom I got was incredible: "Write us an idea, and if it's all right, you can do it." Thus, Byron the Tauren Rogue was born. Now, the legend of the tauren rogue is just one of many jokes within the WoW universe, like the cow level, or skilled ret paladins. Even though I was told that this idea was "done to death," I really wanted to try out the lovable oaf sort of character. What I didn't expect is what it would turn into. The general synopsis of Byron is as such: Byron is a young, male tauren who dreams of becoming the first rogue of his kind. His friends -- skilled rogues themselves -- dare Byron to sneak into Stormwind and steal the Shield of Fordragon. If he can acquire it and safely escape the city, then he has more than proven himself.

  • Fallout: New Vegas comic previewed on iTunes

    A 12-page preview of the Fallout: New Vegas - All Roads comic is now available on iTunes, but if you end up liking what you read don't expect to buy the full thing off of Apple's virtual store shelf. The graphic novel is a prologue to events in the game and is "exclusive" to the Fallout: New Vegas Collector's Edition. The un-interactive text adventure is published by Dark Horse Comics and written by New Vegas' senior designer, Chris Avellone. The comic also apparently gives "clues to in-game missions for the sharp-eyed reader." Now we totally want Where's Waldo: Fallout Edition.

  • Ratchet & Clank comics coming September 8

    This will be the first year since the start of the Ratchet & Clank Future series that the franchise will be quiet on the PS3. Fans of Insomniac's space-venturing duo need not fret too much, though. DC Comics' WildStorm imprint is releasing a brand new Ratchet & Clank comic series this September, written by Insomniac's TJ Fixman. The new series will follow the events of the last game, A Crack in Time, and should satiate fans' appetites for the series' continuation. The comic will be available in retail stores and on the PSP Digital Comics service.

  • Team Fortress 2 comic, code hint at Engineer update

    If you think Team Fortress 2 is just a quality, team-based shooter, you'd be wrong. It's a quality, team-based shooter with a ton of lore building up behind it, and every update seems to bring a little more backstory and a little more meaning into the picture. Take, for example, this recently-released Engineer comic, which hints at two major updates to the Engineer class coming soon to the game. First, a metal called Australium, which has some special properties and a golden hue, and second, a life-extender machine which, you might guess, extends life. And sure enough, players have found code in the game's most recent update that shows a "golden wrench" is indeed coming to the Engineer. This video shows that the golden/Australium wrench will freeze opponents in their path, turning them into gold on the spot, and this teaser video shows some other possible goodies due for the update as well. Leave it to Valve to turn a simple class deathmatch into a wild scavenger hunt for secret items and histories.

  • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II comic hits Tosche Station newsstands Oct. 6

    Many of you likely remember the first Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a story penned by Haden Blackman which told the tale of Darth Vader's secret apprentice. Now the sequel has been announced and Blackman is not only returning to work on the sequel, but has also been tapped to be the scribe on this 88-page trade from Dark Horse. The first comic based on the first game managed to sell 88,000 copies -- not much compared to how many copies the game sold, but still a figure no Sith should scoff at. You'll be able to grab your own copy for $10.99 come October 6, three weeks before the game's launch. [Via Big Download]

  • New Planetside comic marks imminent countdown

    The clock is still ticking. In less than a week, something happens in the world of Planetside. Something what? We honestly have no idea, although the quickly-ticking countdown clock on Planetside's website teases the mind. We've been watching this clock for a little while now, and the only hint that SOE will give about it is that it is "anniversary related." Planetside recently posted a new comic as part of this countdown, where a mysterious figure cackles over obtaining nanites in preparation for converting them. Into what? We still have no idea! It won't stop players from speculating, of course. Stay tuned, as we'll find out when the countdown hits zero in about a week.

    Click to Barbarian-size Curious about the variety of artistic and thematic comic book styles you'll experience once you get your hot little hands on Twisted Pixel's action-platformer, Comic Jumper? The game's second overworld was recently revealed in screenshots and concept art, and ... well, we sure hope the estate of Robert E. Howard never sees this particular stage, as it clearly parodies his beefy, Cimmerian brainchild. Heck, the comic's named Nanoc: The Obliviator -- flip it around, and you get Conan. (Actually, you get Rotaivilbo Eht: Conan, but ... well, two of those words aren't words.)   • The Guild comic: There's an app for that

    If you like The Guild comic book and would like to read it on your Apple device, there is now an app for that. Dark Horse Comics has released an app on iTunes that allows you to read issue #1 electronically for less than a buck. If you prefer your comic books in paper form (or want both), issue #2 is available in stores now. You have your choice of two covers, one drawn by Kristin Donaldson and the other drawn by Matthew Stawicki. The comic chronicles the origins of The Knights of Good from The Guild web series and is written by Felicia Day herself. The artist is Jim Rugg, who was also one of the artists in the Dr. Horrible comic. Like The Guild? We do, too! We've got all the episodes of season 3 posted: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and the season finale. We've also chatted with all of the folks at BlizzCon, including Felicia Day, Sandeep Parikh, and Jeff Lewis and Michele Boyd.   • NCsoft trademarks City of Heroes 2

    A little over a year ago, Massively's Kyle Horner took a look at the possibility of City of Heroes 2 in The Digital Continuum. He investigated some of what NCsoft has done before and gave several reasons why it would make sense for them to move in that direction eventually. There was a fair amount of skepticism, but it looks like Kyle may have called it. Eurogamer reported today that NCsoft has trademarked the "City of Heroes 2" name. Now this is certainly not anything resembling a commitment to make the game, but it opens the door to the possibility. NCsoft could be planning to start working on the game soon, or they could just as easily be guarding against future shenanigans from those not affiliated with the game. NCsoft had this to say: "City of Heroes is a flourishing franchise and continues to be the world's most popular super-powered hero MMO. While we cannot comment on City of Heroes 2 at this time, NCsoft is proud of City of Heroes' success and is looking forward to future product launches associated with the franchise, including the City of Heroes Going Rogue expansion scheduled for release this July." For now, we'll try not too speculate too much, and look forward to Going Rogue.

  • Chiptune rock band Anamanaguchi providing soundtrack for Scott Pilgrim game

    If you're a fan of both the high-energy electro-rock stylings of Anamanaguchi and the illustrated adventures of Scott Pilgrim, you're in for a serendipitous treat -- the 'Guch announced during their PAX East concert last night that they would be providing the musical accompaniment for Ubisoft's recently announced video game adaptation of the Scott Pilgrim comic series. Given the comic's penchant for 8-bit gaming references, and the band's penchant for 8-bit gaming synthesizers, we think this partnership is a match made in heaven.

  • Comic Zeal 4 for the iPad previewed

    We've mentioned Comic Zeal on the site here before -- it's an iPhone app that allows you to read comic book .cbr files on your iPhone. Of course, it's exactly the kind of app that you'd hope to bring itself right on over to the iPad, and that's exactly what developer Bitolithic has done -- they're provided an excellent preview of the Comic Zeal iPad app over on their blog. It looks great -- there's a full-screen view, of course, but the navigation has been tweaked, and there's no real separation any more between selecting a book and seeing it. While the iPhone's smaller screen meant they had to compartmentalize those two functions, the bigger iPad screen means they can just put a pop-up in and do the whole thing all together. Also interesting to note is that they've placed controls at the top of the screen rather than at the bottom -- they say that when the iPad is sitting in your lap, it's awkward to hit buttons at the bottom as you usually do on the iPhone. And this version will be called Comic Zeal 4, not Comic Zeal iPad or HD, because eventually most of the features in this version will find their way back to the iPhone version as well. Comic Zeal looks like a great comic reading solution on the iPad, and it's awesome to finally see some apps.

  • Mass Effect getting an ongoing comic book series

    It looks like Dark Horse is chomping at the bit to squeeze a bit more commercial success out of BioWare's deep space opera franchise, following the impressive sales of the Mass Effect comic mini-series, "Redemption." During a Dark Horse Comics panel at the Seattle-based Emerald City Comic-Con, it was announced that Mass Effect writer Mac Walters and John Jackson Miller, writer of the original mini-series, would be teaming up to create a regular, monthly Mass Effect comic. According to Comic Book Resources, the plot of the series will "follow the second game." We don't know if that means it will actually cover the events of Mass Effect 2, or if it takes place shortly thereafter. What we do know is that the panel also brought the announcement that Patton Oswalt is working on a Firefly comic, which takes place shortly after the events of Serenity, and that's the best news we've ever heard in our whole lives.   • Doonesbury covers the tablet release

    Cartoonist Garry Trudeau is of course no stranger to the constant expectations and travails of being an Apple fan -- he famously skewered the Newton years and years ago in his comic strip Doonesbury. And with the Appleverse on high alert for what could finally be the "second coming" of a revolutionary handheld Apple computer, he's at it again. Today's strip lampoons Apple fans who are hoping for a religious experience tomorrow, and Trudeau will likely be posting Apple-related work all week long. The satire is biting as always -- while I'm as big an Apple fan as the next guy, it's very true that many people are expecting a life-changing revelation, and in reality, all we'll get at most is a brand new piece of technology. A piece of technology that might change the way we do a lot of different things, sure, but if you're hoping for "miracles" over and above, you know, a new way to read newspapers or watch TV, I wouldn't hold your breath.

  • Threat of Peace issue #23 goes beneath Dantooine

    In the newest entry of Threat of Peace -- the webcomic prequel to Star Wars: The Old Republic -- it seems like Jedi and Sith will fight just about anywhere. They'll even make battle under Dantooine, especially if there's some degree of revenge involved in the fight. To be fair, Sith Lords Baras and Master Dar'Nala aren't simply fighting in a cave, they're fighting in ancient crystal caves that make for a much more spectacular setting. Of course, none of this would even be happening if the Jedi didn't blame the Sith for upsetting the peace treaty. Ah, Jedi, always blaming the Sith for their problems. Well, at least it makes for great showdowns beneath Dantooine! If not for that, well... we're not really sure what these comics would be about. Jedi picnics?
