Wurm Online, the free-to-play Java-based sandbox from OneTwoFree AB, has undergone a good-sized game update according to a news posting on the official website. The client has been tweaked to feature new graphics, sound, and code, all with the aim of polishing the game experience. In an email message sent out to players, the Wurm team also dropped hints about the forthcoming Epic server project. "It may be a good idea to return and wipe some rust off your RL skills before we open the Epic server since we expect something of a land rush and a mass return of old players. The release date is still to be announced, but make sure not to miss that event," says the message. Be sure to check out the full list of updates on the official Wurm website.

Not content to sit idle after their last update, Nexon has announced another major content update for Dungeon Fighter Online, entitled Threshold of Power. The game is still in open beta but doesn't lack for content, and players that have been enjoying Dungeon Fighter Online for a while will appreciate this update when it arrives. The level cap will increase to 50, and the update will add hundreds of new items as well as lots of new quests and skills. Seven new dungeons will be added, offering up variety in the form of everything from a huge walking tree invading Frostfield to hordes of skeletons and the Death Dragon Spirazzi in The Catacombs. If players find the content a little daunting, they'll like the addition of Advanced Avatar Items, the other major feature being added with the update: "these rare Avatar items offer a boost for Dungeon Fighters and when collecting a set of eight pieces, players gain additional boosts. " The update will arrive on January 27th, so gear up and be prepared for the new challenges!

  • The Daily Grind: Would you check back in on Age of Conan for free?

A lot of updates and additional content have been coming down the pipe for Age of Conan in the last several months, and that pace doesn't look to be slowing down anytime soon. It's one thing to slap another fifteen bucks on the table in order to give an MMO the second go-round. That's why we're wondering how many previously subscribed players would be interested in re-installing and patching (a courageous task indeed) the game to see how things have changed. All things considered, we'll probably see a "come back for free" deal out of Funcom sometime this year. And it's possible that new and intriguing content updates will have manifested on the live servers by that time. Our curiosity will of course mean a revisit to Hyperborea for us, but what about for you, our dear readers?

  • Guild Wars update revamps achievement titles

Before there was the Lorebook in Lord of the Rings Online, there were titles in Guild Wars. Before there was the Tome of Knowledge in Warhammer Online, there were titles in Guild Wars. Before there were Achievements in World of Warcraft, there were titles in Guild Wars. This title system has been in place for a few years now, and has been steadily growing to incorporate achievement recognition for many of the game's favorite activities. In yesterday's game update though, the entire title system got a revamp. One of the biggest problems many players saw with some of the more difficult titles is it felt like pure grind. To remedy that, ArenaNet has adjusted the difficulty of a few higher-end titles, and changed the way titles affected things like Favor of the Gods, Vanquishing bonuses, etc. Check out the complete patch notes at the developer wiki page for more information.

There's nothing like waking up, experimenting with a little magic and unleashing a portal that connects to another world all before lunch. You quickly find out your new transit route is to a planet filled with vicious insect-like species that proceed to invade the world and annihilate civilization. Dereth, the world in Asheron's Call has never been the same since, and you can thank Asheron Realaidain for that genius. The adventures continue as Asheron's Call nears a milestone, the 100th content update is due out soon and the July event is scheduled to deploy Wednesday, July 23rd from 7am-2pm EDT. Big things are expected, details on the society systems emerged several days ago, and other details regarding loot and landscape hunting are also planned. There aren't 10 million people playing Asheron's Call, hell maybe the playerbase is in the mere hundreds. The fact that Turbine honors their commitment by continuing to release new content every month, and expand an ongoing storyline for almost a decade attests to their dedication and stalwartness to the Asheron's Call playerbase. No matter how many people are playing that's an amazing accomplishment. [Via Warcry]

Those of you who've been waiting for Stonehenge Chronicles -- the first major content update for Hellgate: London -- to finally be released can stop as of yesterday. The content went live for players yesterday morning after being delayed a day over some technical bugs. Aside from all of the new content featured in and around Stonehenge, all players get to taste some brand new features, game tweaks and the newly redesigned Evoker class. Among the new features are scaling interface elements -- something everyone appreciates, a streamlining of the crafting system and the addition of account-based buddy lists. We're glad to see that Flagship Studios is also addressing bugs as well as improving some player texturing. However what would really help in the future are instability updates for the game engine and maybe an improved chat window. More content is a good start, but while you're busy working on new stuff for those subscribers it would be a good idea to make sure new players have reason to pick the game up as well.
