In addition to officially revealing next week's XBLA offerings, Major Nelson has also laid out Xbox Live Marketplace schedule for the rest of June, including the Deal of the Week, Games on Demand and Avatar Marketplace. The Deal of the Week -- or Deals of the Week, rather -- takes the spotlight, with several decent titles on sale. Darwinia+ will be marked down to 800 points ($10), while Defense Grid, PB Winterbottom, Rocket Riot and Poker Smash will all be marked down to 400 points ($5). Also, the OneBigGame charity project, Chime, will be reduced to a puny 240 points ($3). Meanwhile, both Tomb Raider Underworld and Command & Conquer 3 will hit Games on Demand on June 29, and some Crackdown 2 Avatar items will be released on July 1.

If Xbox Live were a used car lot, it would be positively festooned with colorful flags and packed to the brim with giant, inflatable animals this week. Six XBLA games have reduced prices this week and, what's more, each one is actually worth your attention. Worms 2: Armageddon, Peggle and Duke Nukem 3D have all seen their prices knocked from 800 ($10) to a pittance: 400 ($5). Meanwhile, Serious Sam HD, Battlefield 1943 and Call of Duty Classic have dropped from 1200 ($15) to 800 ($10). Add all those up and you've got six nutritious, filling games for $45 (through Sunday). Seriously though, Peggle? For $5? And Worms 2? You'd have to have heart of stone (or a wallet filled with moths) to turn that down. You can just proceed directly to the bottom of this post and follow the Xbox Live Marketplace link to Prince of Persia Classic. ... Okay fine, if you really want to know what the other deals are, here we go. First, you can pick up some Transformers 2 DLC for 400 ($5). Second, Watchmen: The End is Nigh is available for 800 ($10) instead of the usual, ridiculous 1600 ($20). There. Happy? Now go buy Prince of Persia Classic. The Xbox Marketplace Live Deal of the Week is usually reserved for a single piece of DLC or the occasional Xbox Live Arcade game, but this week there are four titles on sale. Three different XBLA games -- puzzle platformer Lazy Raiders, turn-based strategy RPG Band of Bugs and ... spheroid murder sim Madballs in Babo: Invasion -- have all seen their prices reduced from 800 ($10) to 400 ($5) for the next seven days. Additionally, the Xbox Live Indie Game Avatar Wave: Snowball Fight has dropped from 240 ($3) to 80 ($1). As usual, the deals are valid Monday through Sunday and only available to Xbox Live Gold members. You must be signed into Xbox Live to see the sale price. If you've been waiting for an excuse to sink your felonious teeth into the Grand Theft Auto IV expansion The Ballad of Gay Tony, listen up. This week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week, you see, knocks the usual 1600 ($20) price of Gay Tony down to a more palatable 1200 ($15). Not bad for a night of virtual clubbing in Liberty City. That said, if you haven't picked up The Lost and Damned (the other GTA IV expansion) either, you can grab the full Episodes from Liberty City package for $30 from GameStop or Amazon. As Xbox Live Deals of the Week go, this week's is pretty darn good. This week only, Xbox Live Gold members can enjoy the violent, bloody fun of The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai for only five bucks -- fully half off the title's standard price of $10. Not a bad deal for one of the better action games on XBLA, and the perfect excuse to get acquainted with the titular character before the (still undated) release of the game's sequel, The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile. Remember, you'll have to be signed into Xbox Live Gold to see the discount. Xbox.com: Add The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai to your Xbox 360 download queue ($5)

Some say the ideal vacation whisks you away from the daily grind to some lush, tropical paradise. However, we'd like you to know that you have a choice in these matters. You don't have to settle for sandy beaches and warm nights: you could take a vacation to the Zombie Island of Dr. Ned instead -- and grind up your Borderlands stats while you're at it. This week, Microsoft is offering the first DLC pack for Borderlands for half-off -- 400 ($5), to be exact. The deal is only applicable to Gold members and expires after Sunday. Happy headhunting! Though the Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 leaderboards have all rocketed to unsurpassable heights since its release in summer 2008, Xbox Live Gold subscribers shouldn't be afraid of picking it up this week for the temporarily reduced price of 400 ($5). We mean, you should be afraid of its propensity for stealing your evenings away from you as you desperately attempt to unlock that pesky "Wax Off" Achievement. 03.23.2010

Major Nelson has dropped a new Xbox Live Marketplace schedule for the remainder of March and beginning of April and, while we knew about most of the major releases already, there's still some surprises to be found. First, the next two weeks will see some nice Deal of the Week promotions, with Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram falling to 800 ($10) and Geometry Wars 2 dropping to a paltry 400 ($5). Beyond that, Xbox Live Silver members will also be able to enjoy free Xbox Live Gold -- including online multiplayer, Netflix, last.fm, Facebook and Twitter -- from noon ET on April 1 through noon ET on April 5. And, as if all that wasn't enough, Major announced that ten Xbox Live Arcade games will go on sale from April 1 through April 7. The full list of games hasn't been announced, though it will include Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, South Park and Defense Grid. Check out the full Xbox Live schedule after the break.

    03.09.2010

Though we already know the bulk of the March release schedule for new content on the Xbox Live Marketplace, Major Nelson's blog recently laid out how the rest of the month will play out. Tomorrow, we'll get our hands on Scrap Metal for 1200 ($15), next Wednesday will see the release of Perfect Dark for 800 ($10), and on March 24, we'll get our hands on the (somewhat) free Game Room hub. Oh, and the Games on Demand service got a bit crazier today with the release of Condemned: Criminal Origins for $19.99. If you're an insatiable value-hound, you should turn your attention to the upcoming Deals of the Weeks: The original Fable will have its price reduced to 800 ($10) from 1200 ($15) during the week of March 15. All of Fallout 3's add-on packs, including Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta, will be offered at half price (400, or $5) during the week of March 22. For the rest of the schedule, including Avatar outfits and add-on packs, check out the list after the jump.

Looking to represent the Serans during the ongoing conflict with the Locust in Gears of War 2? Well, you've probably been playing the game, but if you insist on enlisting your Avatar in the ranks of the willing and able, Major Nelson reveals the COG armor (steroids not included) will only set you back 240 ($3) this week, while the helmet is a far more manageable 80 ($1). That's a savings of 25 and 50 percent off the normal price, respectively -- a sale that is valid until March 8. According to a recent tweet from 3D Realms' George Broussard, Duke Nukem 3D will be next week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week. Already pretty cheap at 800 ($10), Broussard says the game will be reduced to a mere 400 ($5). That's 39 levels, online multiplayer and the nifty rewind feature, which lets you rewind to a safe point in the level upon death, for just $5. Not bad. Oh, as an added bonus, if you can manage to snag all the Achievements, you can even unlock some images of the "upcoming" Duke Nukem Forever. That's pretty exciting, right?

This week's Xbox Live deal is none other than DICE's downloadable destruction sim, Battlefield 1943. Major Nelson reports that, for this week only, you can snag the game for $5 off the usual asking price. For one lone Hamilton ($10), you can experience all of the mayhem of the Frostbite engine across several islands in the Pacific, where vicious World War II battles were waged. That is, unless you fancy yourself a pilot, in which case we hope you like standing around a whole bunch.

    02.09.2010

Update: Microsoft has issued a correction on this schedule. The Misadventures of P. B. Winterbottom will be priced at 800 ($10), not 1200 ($15). Major Nelson has a dropped a partial February schedule for Xbox Live Marketplace content, including a particularly nice Deal of the Week. Specifically, next week's deal, beginning February 15, will be Battlefield 1943 for only 800 ($10). If you've yet to pick up the game, $10 is definitely a good price. Also starting next week, both Resident Evil 5 and Beautiful Katamari will hit the Games on Demand service. The post also notes that this week marks the end of the second season of 1 vs 100. Tonight's episode (9:00pm ET/6:00 pm PT) will feature Magda Apanowicz from SyFy's series Caprica. For the season finale this Friday (10:00pm ET/7:00 pm PT), the game will feature 343 Industries' Frank O'Connor and Bungie's Marty O'Donnell. See the full XBLM schedule after the break.

  • Xbox Live deals of the week: Turtles, Tiger and Marvel vs. Capcom

    02.08.2010

We're guessing that the person at Microsoft whose job it is to choose the discounted XBLA games of the week is a huge New Orleans Saints fan. Filled with the overwhelming spirit of victory from last night's engagement, this person couldn't stop him or herself from repeatedly hitting the price reduction button. We're afraid of what might have happened if they were a diehard Colts fan. Can XBLA prices be increased? Fortunately, things panned out in our favor. During the discounting spree, three titles got their prices reduced: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is now 800 ($10, down from 1200), TMNT: Turtles in Time Reshelled is 400 ($5, down from 800) and Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao is available for 800 ($10, down from 1200). Basically, if you've got an itch to watch ninjas or superheroes beat the snot out of things, Xbox Live has you covered for the next seven days.

We told you last week, but with a certain something likely taking up every ounce of delicious brain juice you've got right now, we felt it prudent to put out a reminder. 'Splosion Man, Twisted Pixel's game of splodey splendor, is 50 percent off this week on Xbox Live, bringing it down to a very reasonable 400 price tag. If you haven't bothered to check it out yet -- it is one of 2009's best games, y'know -- then there's really no excuse now. Shortcut: Add Splosion Man to your download queue [Xbox.com]

Twisted Pixel's highly combustible Xbox Live Arcade platformer and object of Joystiq adoration, 'Splosion Man, will headline the upcoming Marketplace schedule (as relayed by Major Nelson) with a temporary 50-percent price reduction. After dropping to 400 ($5) for the week of February 1, 'Splosion Man should prove more challenging to blow off than up. Other highlights include Chime, February 3's non-profit Xbox Live Arcade release from Zoe Mode and OneBigGame, the Halo 3 Mythic 2 Map Pack, and the first part of Assassin's Creed 2 downloadable content, "Battle of Forli." Expect a Joystiq review on that closer to its January 28 launch.

  • PSA: Portal: Still Alive is $10 on Xbox Live this week

    01.25.2010

Xbox Live Arcade's Portal: Still Alive stepped through an inter-spacial tear of savings and popped out the other side $5 cheaper. Valve's fantastic puzzle game, which was also Joystiq's game of the year for 2007, will be 800 ($10) on XBLA this week. Considering The Orange Box, which includes Portal (minus the 14 "exclusive" levels in Still Alive), is only $20, it may be worth it to splurge on the full package. Especially if you've never played Portal, Half-Life 2 or Team Fortress 2. Also, if you haven't played those games, we hope your decade-long excursion in the Amazon was amazing. We know the wait until Jan. 26 and Mass Effect 2 seems insurmountable at this point, but the Xbox Deal of the Week may serve as a soothing poultice to provide a smidgen of relief. If you act this week, you can pass the next eight days playing Mass Effect DLC "Bring Down The Sky" and "Pinnacle Station" for just 240 points ($3) each. Oops, we forgot about Battleship being lowered to 400 points, but we're assuming you will too, so no harm done, right?
