Future Devil May Cry 4 Collector's Edition purchasers will be in for "golden ticket" hunt of their own come launch day. A video game hunt for autographed goodness.Capcom just revealed that they really want to make DMC4's Collector's Edition special, so special that they will be randomly distributing 100 CE tins autographed by non other than DMC4's (and Resident Evil 4's) producer Kobayashi-san. The super rare CE autographed tins will be distributed secretly and randomly among normal distribution channels making it one of the rarest video game CE goods to date. But even if you don't come across an autograph, know that the CE still packs some pretty "okay" goodies including volume one of the DMC anime, digital art book, making-of features and a soundtrack. Now get to finding those golden tickets, erm, autographed tins fanboys. Your DMC fanboy'ism is at stake!

  • Devil May Cry 4 demo "coming soon"

It looks like the promised Devil May Cry 4 demo is right around the corner. The news comes in the form of an advertisement found in the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly (right next to the decent review scores for Culdcept Saga). According to said advertisement, (get this) a demo is coming soon for Xbox Live Marketplace and its bastard cousin the Playstation Store. And that's about it really. Not terribly unexpected considering Capcom's success with demos on the 360 thus far. If demos can make best sellers out of untested franchises like Dead Rising and Lost Planet, we imagine it can do the same for a mainstay like Devil May Cry. The only question now is exactly how soon is "soon."[Thanks, Jason]

Devil May Cry 4 is only a month away from release and we were itching to sit down for a few hours and try out the final build. From what we've seen, the game has been polished so much we could almost see our faces in it. It's clear that DMC4 has benefited from being pushed back to early '08, if only because it now has the Q1 stage all to itself. The gameplay hasn't changed much since Devil May Cry 1, but fans of the series should see no problems with that. Having said that, numerous new features have been added, with Nero's crazy arm (used for grabbing, throwing and slamming, natch) reminding us of Evil Dead 2. That can only be a good thing, right? Its ability to cling onto nearby floating objects in order to reach higher places is ripped straight from Onimusha 3, though the timing based jump puzzles seen here make things a little different. One such puzzle requires you to hop across a spike-filled room by grabbing jump points that can disappear and reappear at random. Grab at the wrong time and the spikes will damage you, causing you to plummet into a room full of marionettes (those being the things trying to kill you most of the time) below. Did we fall? Maybe. Maybe we fell three times. So what if we did?%Gallery-2904%

  • Devil May Cry 4 for PS3 gets achievements, required installation [update]

The German version of GamePro (via NeoGAF) has published its review of Devil May Cry 4 and revealed some interesting features for the PlayStation 3 - namely, achievements. Similar to the Xbox Live counterpart, you'll be able to perform certain actions and earn recognition, which can then be seen by your friends. From what we gather, this is only for DMC4, however, and not a console-wide feature, so don't expect to start bragging about your PSN gamerscore anytime soon. The idea of PS3 achievements, rumored once to be called entitlements, were denied by Sony leading up to the console's launch. The review also confirmed Sixaxis functionality in the form of tilting to adjust the camera, and noted a 5GB required installation before you can play the game. The 1UP podcast this week also confirmed this, saying it took 25 minutes to complete the installation process, so don't expect to play the game as soon as you get home from the store.[Update: Upgraded emphasis on 5GB installation][Via PS3 Fanboy]

  • UK jumps on the Devil May Cry 4 SE bandwagon

We already know that the US will be enjoying a two-disc Special Edition of Devil May Cry 4 when it is released next month, but it would appear that a UK version will also be available. Unlike the US version, however, the UK version seems to do everything right. We suggested of the US Special Edition that perhaps a physical paper-and-glue artbook would be more attractive than a DVD full of images, intended for use on the PC. The UK version will feature no such disc, but will come with a signed artbook in a metal case. With GAME pre-ordering at only a fiver more than the vanilla version, this is too great a deal to pass up. Ready your wallets, Devil May Cry fans.[Thanks Shaf!]

  • Devil May Cry gets SIXAXIS support, achievements

Foreign reviewers have received copies of Devil May Cry 4 on PS3, and have revealed a few new details about the game. First is an annoyance that we're sure many will complain about: the 5GB install to remove the game's load times is not optional. When the game releases, you'll be forced to endure minutes upon minutes of waiting as the game copies gigabytes of data to your PS3 hard drive. There's good news, though. The game will use the PSN for ranking modes. You'll also be able to collect achievements in the game (like in the Xbox 360 version) and you'll be able to see what achievements your friends have collected (a la Xbox Live). Finally, SIXAXIS controls have been added to the game. By tilting the controller, you'll be able to control the camera. It's not a significant extra, but it is a nice, subtle way of using the PS3's tilt functionality.

  • Devil May Cry 4 opening cinematic is very cinematic indeed

We've been impressed by the footage we've seen of Capcom's newest demon slaughtering simulator, Devil May Cry 4. It has all the elements we've come to expect from the DMC series: acrobatics, dismemberment, and extreme cases of early-onset leukotrichia. However, after paying attention to the jaw-droppingly beautiful opening cinematic for the game, we are left with one major question: What is Nero listening to on those headphones? Sure, high octane techno-rock is a pretty safe bet, but we guess it's possible that our crimson clad protagonist can't juggle baddies unless he listens to ABBA. Guess we'll find out when the game hits U.S. store shelves in February '08.

Devil May Cry fanboys get pumped, excited and drooly. Microsoft just revealed a "special" Devil May Cry 4 Xbox 360 bundle featuring an Xbox 360, a copy of DMC4 ... er, artwork on the box ... uh, yeah. We guess it isn't all that "special" per say, but it is DMC4 themified so that should be good enough for DMC fanboys. But even if it isn't, know that this bundle will only be available in Japan for around $300 starting January 31st. So, if you're reading this, we highly doubt you'll be able to get in on the DMC4 Xbox 360 bundle action. Then again, we fully expect some of you to be hardcore enough to get your mitts on one.[Via Engadget]

Like a Nero to the PlayStation 3's Dante, the Xbox may be the new console to the Devil May Cry scene but it's not looking to play second fiddle. Just like the PS3, the Xbox 360 is getting a Devil May Cry 4 bundle in Japan when it's released this January. ¥37,800 (or about $330) nets you an HDMI-equipped console along with a copy of the game which, we're sure, is the one thing Japanese gamers have been waiting on before taking the Xbox plunge. You may not like Capcom for porting the former PS3-exclusive Devil May Cry 4 to the Xbox 360. But, can you take comfort in knowing that the PS3 version is still superior than its 360 counterpart? If you watched this episode of The 1UP Show, you would've heard the 1UP editors agree that the PS3 version looks and plays better than the 360 version. In addition, a new issue of Famitsu reveals some features that are sure to make PS3 owners quite happy. An optional hard drive install will supposedly remove all load times from the game. But, be warned -- it's quite a hefty install at nearly 5GB. Not only will load times be shortened on the PS3, but audiophiles will be glad to hear that the PS3 version also includes 5.1 LPCM audio. There's also support for the PSN, although how exactly it will work is still unclear. Regardless, it makes us glad to see the PS3 version of DMC4 get extra functionality.[Via NeoGAF]%Gallery-3194%

  • Capcom: 'ain't no difference' between Devil May Cry 4 versions

    12.21.2007

If you can't decide which version of Devil May Cry 4 - Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 - to purchase, the official Capcom blog has posted the above GameTrailers video to indicate that there is no difference between the versions. Glibs the poster, "Well, the corporate answer is 'You should buy both and give one to a friend. Perhaps a third to put under your pillow,'" later adding, "As I've been telling people for months, there ain't no difference between the two."One major deciding factor - load times - is not addressed in the footage. If one version takes 20 seconds to load a level and the other takes 2 minutes, then all else equal, we know which version we want to pick up.

Sony certainly knows when to take advantage of a game that Japan loves. They did it with Minna no Golf 5 and Bladestorm and now Devil May Cry 4 looks set to receive the same treatment. The game will be bundled with both white and black 40GB PS3s and will also come with an extra Blu-Ray of bonus content.Due out on the 31st of January, alongside the game, the bundle will retail for 47,800 yen. That's around 212 GBP, 294 Euros or 422 USD by today's standards. Not a bad deal at all. Since the price drop sales in Japan have been increasing nicely and, hopefully, this bundle will only improve the situation.

Nothing gets us in the mood for hacking and slashing than a new Devil May Cry 4 trailer. What can be said, they're like crack for hacking and slashing enthusiasts. Thankfully, Capcom released some new DMC4 video stimuli with what they're calling the "Final Japanese Trailer 2007" and it's a three minute doosy. Not only will you get a look at some in-game footage, but you'll get a chance to see some cut scenes and listen to the A+ voice acting complete with Japanese subtitles. Oh, there's also giant boss sized creatures too. And man crying. Just watch the trailer already.

With the announcement of a Devil May Cry 4 demo coming to the XBLM sometime early next year, Capcom decided to release a handful of new videos to show off the extreme awesomeness of DMC4. All the new video newness can be viewed after the break where we've carefully embedded them, and we think you'll agree DMC4 is one of the ultimate hack-n-slash games. Take the video embedded above for instance. First, you'll notice that Dante is one badass dude who is strong, witty and has a hint of cockiness. Second, you'll see that the gameplay is over the top slashing craziness that is sort of growing on us. Finally, after watching the video you'll see why we don't garden. We have a horrible fear of abusive, talking, female snake weeds. So much so, we sleep with a bottle of Roudup every night.

Click for high-resolution image. Wait a second -- that headline doesn't make any sense! Regardless, Capcom has announced that the PSN demo of Devil May Cry 4 will be available "early 2008." How early that will be is anyone's guess. According to the press release: "The demo introduces gamers to the gothic-inspired supernatural world of Devil May Cry 4, new protagonist Nero and the awesome power of his Devil Bringer. The demo consists of a sampling of sections from the full game, chosen to showcase Devil May Cry 4's varied locales and allows gamers to familiarize themselves with Nero's unique abilities."To get the hype machine rolling again for DMC, Capcom has also sent us a huge update of screenshots, which we've added to our gallery. They show off Dante's new weapon, "Lucifer," which fires mystical swords at enemies. The swords will also explode when Dante throws a red rose. Typical of an anime character, no? Also, you'll see Nero battling a new enemy dubbed the "One Winged Dark Knight."Devil May Cry 4 will also be on display at New York Anime Festival this weekend. %Gallery-3194%

A report making its way around the intertubes incorrectly states that the Blu-ray release of Resident Evil: Extinction will include playable demos for Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4. The original story has since been updated and Capcom has made a clear statement regarding the matter on their blog. The Blu-ray disc of RE: Extinction will include high-def trailers of both RE5 and DMC4. There's no word yet if these are trailers we've already seen or something brand new. It's probably going to be a good while before we get a public demo of either of these hot titles.

Today, Capcom released specifics surrounding the Devil May Cry 4: Collector's Edition and at first glance we deem the offerings to be "mmkay". Included in the Collector's Edition is your standard "Making of" features, metal packaging and digital artwork with other more exclusive offerings including some PC content (no themes or gamer pictures, wah?) and the first four episodes of the DMC animated series. So, no figures, dolls or hardbound goodness, but you'll still get quite the nice collection of additional content for the extra few bucks it costs. And just in case you like your details in bullet lists, we broke down and posted the Collector's Edition content after the break. We're kind and caring ... we know.
