Ever since Capcom made it official that Devil May Cry 4 was headed to the Xbox 360, everyone has been wondering exactly when that time will come. But now that release date guessing game is over (for the most part), because Capcom has made it official ... DMC4 will be landing on the Xbox 360 February 2008. No specific date has been pinned just yet, so we advise waiting to set your countdown clocks. And since February is still a ways out we think you should treat yourself to the latest DMC4 trailer which we embedded above. 2008 can't come soon enough.

Update: In last night's frenzied blast of news posts and inundation of press releases, we grabbed the wrong Devil May Cry 4 trailer and, on top of that, made some extremely noob-ish observations. Here is the correct one, embedded above, showing new gameplay footage.

For those of you that missed it the first time, the Devil May Cry 4 trailer that was released during the Leipzig Games Convention is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. The trailer is more or less an extended version of the Tokyo Game Show trailer from last year. It introduces players to both Dante and Nero, the game's protagonists. There are also some shots of what appear to be villains as well, including the requisite scantily-clad, large-breasted dominatrix. If you've yet to experience it in HD, you might as well go download it now. Frankly, we're waiting for Capcom to give us something new.

Capcom released a new trailer to the German masses, as if gamers around the world weren't excited quite enough. Watch it here, squeal, and then download it in HD for more fun.To see more mayhem and destruction, check out some new gameplay footage after the cut.

Fresh from the hallowed halls of the Leipzig Games Convention comes this brand new trailer for Devil May Cry 4. Having only dabbled in previous entries in the series, we have no idea what's going on. If you find yourself in a similar situation, fear not, for it does not matter a bit. The simple truth is that the trailer is nothing but action, so if you don't need any more than that (and really, who does?), you're in for a treat. Seriously, it's got everything: guns, swords, soldiers, fanatics, voluptuous women, macho dudes, demons, everything. The only thing we need now is a demo. Come on Capcom, you remember what a demo did for Dead Rising, right? Get to it.

According to Capcom (via 1UP), Devil May Cry 4 for the Xbox 360 will be making its first official appearance at the Leipzig Games Convention next week. A longtime Sony exclusive, Capcom made waves earlier this year when they announced that the fourth game in the series would be heading to the Xbox 360 as well as PS3. Given that the game is scheduled to drop by the end of the year, we're expecting the version on display at Leipzig to be near final. We're sure there will be tons of DMC4 coverage next week, and you can be sure we'll be keeping an eye out for it.[Thanks, homer34]

Capcom has released the first gameplay footage of Dante from Devil May Cry 4. If you don't know, the protagonist featured so far is in fact Nero, though he bears a striking resemblance to Dante. Among other things, Dante has duel-wielded pistols, which are so popular with the kids these days. The clip is very short, but it does showcase some pretty nifty maneuvers for Dante. We like the upside down, spiraling double guns in particular. Check out the video and a new gallery after the break.

  • DMC4 on 360 and PS3: identical

Speaking to IGN in a video interview, Devil May Cry 4 producer, Hiroyuki Kobayashi, dropped some interesting info. Firstly, he describes the game's lead character, Nero, and his weapons -- a big sword called the Red Queen and a revolver called the Blue Rose. That's all well and good, but the real sound bite concerns the game's multiplatform status. Regarding the disparities between the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Devil May Cry 4, Kobayashi says, "Our plan is to make them pretty much identical."In the unending flame war of console superiority, this is quite a statement. Kobayashi notes that there may be some functionality in the PS3 version not included in the 360 version. The statement is poorly translated though, so we're not exactly sure what that functionality will be (motion control, perhaps?). At any rate, the upshot is this: if you have to play Devil May Cry 4, you might as well do it for $200 less, because you won't be missing anything on the Xbox 360.[Via Joystiq]

  • Devil May Cry 4 to be identical on PS3 and Xbox 360

In a video interview with IGN, Devil May Cry 4 producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi gives the 411 on protagonist Nero (not to be confused with the also playable Dante). "His specialties are a big revolver called the Blue Rose, and a big sword called the Red Queen." Hey, that's cool, gamers are totally comfortable with alternative lifestyles. Then Kobayashi drops the bombshell: the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are going to be the same."Our plan is to make them pretty much identical," says the auburn-tressed developer. This is where armchair analysts point out that the PS3 costs $200 more than 360; shouldn't Sony's system blow the competition out of the photorealistic water? Kobayashi concedes, "You may be able to use some of the functionality in the PS3 as like a switch." We trust that makes more sense in the original Japanese than in IGN's shoddy on-the-fly English translation. Any bilingual readers care to take a crack at a better interpretation?

  • Devil May Cry 4 -- an inclusive hands-on preview

Well, we feel included by hearing about an exclusive hands-on of Devil May Cry 4. After the week long stint of DMC4 news, what else could be discussed other than some hands-on impressions? Well, they've got a lot to say, but we'll keep it as short as possible just because we know you've got a lot to do on a Sunday. The gameplay has gotten so finely tuned and sharp that it was instantly gripping while remaining challenging. Some things don't feel next-gen about the game (at least, this early demo): the whole "kill all the enemies in the room to magically unlock the seal on the door" is a little worn-out. The most important aspect of the game, at least with Nero, is the Devil Bringer. It completely changes the shoot/slice formula... being extremely responsive and refined doesn't hurt. And charging up your sword by throttling it like a motorcycle is neat, too. The artificial intelligence is supposed to be top-notch, but not in the demo they played, apparently. Although it was more of a tutorial level, making the enemies dumb, they didn't exhibit much advanced AI. Boss battles? Still intense and difficult. Failing only makes you want to defeat the monster more! Crossing levels swiftly via the Hell Bound teleport move may portend a more engrossing exploration element in the final build. Dante is ready to fight -- he's got his skills from Devil May Cry 3 as well as instant weapon-swapping. But only the developers got to show him off. But what makes the game fresh? "This is a game made by a man who cut his teeth on fighting games, and combat is the number one priority here. Throwing an enemy up into the air, slashing it with a sword, following that with a few quick shots and yanking and slamming it back into the ground is extremely addictive. The Devil Bringer is fully integrated - essential - to the combat, and is the key to what makes DMC4 feel fresh. The graphics, of course, are packed with detail and flash" That's it for the week of Devil May Cry 4. We stretched it out a little longer, but whatever. Now, we'd love to hear about the trophies they have planned for Home. Who wouldn't want a life-sized statue of Dante for beating the game with all S-ranks? I'd take that over some worthless line of text telling me I "achieved" something anyday.

As many of you are already familiar, PSM has scored a huge 16-page exclusive on Devil May Cry 4 in their latest issue (in newsstands today). Their preview of the multi-platform action game has us yearning for more: "It's safe to say that the generational leap in hardware has not caused the series to lose sight of what it is: pure, all-out, unforgiving action ... Many mainstays from the series, including colored orbs, air juggling, and the Euro-gothic aesthetic remain intact- only everything is rendered in eye-blistering high-definition at a locked 60 frames per second."While current subscribers are enjoying the dreamy pictures of Nero fighting demon hordes, the vigilant deal-watching group CAG has unearthed a fantastic deal for new subscriptions. 12 issues of PSM are now available for $5 at amazon.com, after instant rebate. While new subscribers are unlikely to receive the latest DMC4 blowout, one Lincoln is still a great deal for something to read when you absolutely have no access to PS3 Fanboy.

  • Loyalists cry over Devil May Cry on Xbox 360

The internet is not a safe place to be, especially when it comes to the gaming industry. Earth-shattering announcements are made, megatons are dropped and the entire gaming community explodes and reconstitutes itself so often that the rest of the internet views it as a sort of radioactive leper who's constantly chasing after a pair of misplaced thumbs. Perhaps that's why, every now and then, we're good for a laugh.Take this online petition, for instance. Whether it's made in jest or not doesn't really change the fact that it's absolutely hysterical. It seems a group of Devil May Cry fans are extremely upset about the game going to the Xbox 360 and PC in addition to the PS3 -- so much so that they're going to boycott Capcom and not buy either version. As the internets are fond of saying, "Oh noes!""We (The people that have signed this petition) feel very left out in your decision to make Devil May Cry 4 a Multi-Platform title and hereby agree to boycott your sale of Capcom affiliated games," it reads. "This is due to your decision to turn your back on your most faithful gaming company. For years we have enjoyed games, we have reaped the benefits of your committment to Sony. We find it absolutely demoralizing for not only the gamers, but also Sony itself. We want you to know that will not, and should not stand for your actions, and therefore withold our option of buying your product."Oh dear, Capcom. Not only have you gone and left people out by making your game available to more gamers (not to be confused with fans, apparently), but you've demoralized a huge corporation! Absolutely fiendish.[Via NeoGAF, of course]

  • Devil May Cry 4 trailer: slammin beat!

GameTrailers has posted a new, albeit very brief, trailer of Devil May Cry 4. It's basically just a mishmash of gameplay segments. One thing we have to point out is the game's combo system. Like many games, Devil May Cry 4 appears to employ a combat multiplier. The one shown in the video showcases different grades: D, C, B, A, and S. Under normal circumstances this wouldn't really even be worth mentioning, but each grade has a little phrase to go with it. Unfortunately, it looks like Capcom decided to pull these phrases off of a '90s era high school trapper keeper. Behold the horrifying list:D -- "Do it!"C -- "Come on!"B -- "Big up!"A -- "All that!"S -- "Slammin beat!"Call us critical, but these phrases seem to clash just a little with rapid fire demon slaying. At least the game looks fun, right?

  • After DMC4, MS Germany wants MGS and FF

    03.21.2007

Boris Schneider-Johne, Product Manager of Microsoft Germany, is pleased that Devil May Cry 4 is headed to the Xbox 360. On his personal blog he posted a very simple message. Titled, "One down, two to go," it reads: Devil May Cry Final Fantasy Metal Gear Solid As IGN reports, many sites quickly speculated that Schneider-Johne was implying that Microsoft had plans to acquire the remaining franchises in the list. Schneider-Johne clarified in an update to his post that the list merely represents a personal wish list and doesn't reflect Microsoft as a whole. Personal wish list or not, there have certainly been rumblings that these major franchises could go multiplatform. Considering the rising cost of development, the success of the 360, and the rocky start of the PS3, it's not too far-fetched to think other series might make the jump as well.Anyone have any other PS3 exclusives they'd like to see on Xbox 360?

So, Devil May Cry 4 is headed to the Xbox 360. We all know that. But just what is Devil May Cry 4? It occurred to us that dedicated 360 fanboys may not be familiar with the game. It looks like the same idea occurred to GameTrailers as well, because they've posted the Tokyo Game Show trailer of the game on the front page. As a service to our readers, we've embedded the trailer at the top of this post (you can grab it in HD here). Feast your eyes on the combo-tastic gameplay and tell us what you think. Now that you've seen what Devil May Cry 4 has to offer, are you looking forward to picking it up?

Is any PS3 title safe? In case you haven't picked up on the all the news just yet, you should know that Devil May Cry 4 is now officially coming to the Xbox 360. Announced in the dead of night (for us anyway) by Capcom, Devil May Cry 4 is now headed to the PS3, Xbox 360, and even PC. Are we surprised? No, not really. Capcom has been very open about expanding its properties, making a particular effort to develop titles on PCs, which makes quick console ports a snap. And of course, DMC4 has been rumored for a while, too (does this mean MS will be buying Capcom after all?).But seriously, what's next? Tekken? Kingdom Hearts? Who knows. Right now we're excited enough for the third person action promised by DMC4. Anyone glad to see this show up on the Xbox 360? For that matter, was anyone planning to buy a PS3 just for Devil May Cry 4?[Thanks, Machiavelli 420. Via Joystiq]
