Ellen Degeneres is leveling up with the launch of her own network, the Ellen Digital Network, which will create content for online platforms and television. YouTube powerhouse Tyler Oakley has signed on to help build original programming for the web and TV alike, while the two stars behind the viral "Damn, Daniel" videos are building an original series for Snapchat. This new venture is a partnership with Warner Bros. Television.

In case you hadn't heard, Samsung's newest phone is coming. At the Oscars, the Galaxy S5 just got a huge shot of publicity, both in a 30-second ad segment and the not-so-casual presence of its big bro, the Note 3, throughout the award ceremony. We hope you like Hollywood stars and selfies, because Ellen's going to be tweeting a whole lot of them. That's your sponsorship dollars at work, Samsung, even if DeGeneres apparently switched back to an iPhone backstage. Update: Oh, and that ensemble picture being taken in the shot above? The real thing is now the most-retweeted post, ever. [Picture via @Buzzfeed]

We know, you're all politics, sports, tech and other "serious" subjects when it comes to your HDTV programming schedule, it's just you have this...friend who watches daytime syndicated programming. Tell your "friend" that talk show hosts Ellen, Oprah (only a year after initially rumored) and Dr. Phil will all make the jump to glorious high definition. Later in the day, Entertainment Tonight and The Insider make the jump to 720p/1080i (depending on your local station and if they're ready to handle syndicated HD at all), complete with newly built sets and likely a few extra layers of makeup. Anything else your "friend" is still waiting to see get a resolution bump? Check after the break for a video tour of ET's new HDTV-ready digs.Read - Dr. PhilRead - Entertainment Tonight & The Insider

  • Ellen Degeneres Show going HD on September 8th

High fives all around, The Ellen Degeneres Show is finally making the leap to high-definition. We've been wondering when this mega-hit would ditch its SD ways and start showing up during our morning yoga classes in high-def, and it appears that Monday, September 8th is the day to circle in your date planner. The show will be moving to a new state-of-the-art production facility on the Warner Bros. Studios lot, where it will be produced and broadcast in glorious HD. The sixth season of the show (which has been renewed through 2010 - 2011) will be shot from the completely tapeless Stage 1 complex, and considering the 50-percent increase in seating capacity, quite a few more guests will be able to squeeze in and check things out live. But who needs that when you've got Ellen in high-def?[Image courtesy of Ecorazzi]

  • Female Spartan voiced by Ellen DeGeneres?

Bungie is throwing the option out there for Halo 3 multiplayer, as part of custom character design, to allow players the option of having a Spartan warrior with a female voice. They aren't promising this as an option, but are merely opening up the conversation for discussion on their boards. And they want to hear from the ladies, saying, "If you ARE a dude, we don't care what you think, because we're not asking you. Anyone who says anything stupid or sexist in the discussion forum will be megabanned."GayGamer.net has a running joke regarding Ellen DeGeneres playing the Master Chief and defying stereotypes. Bungie did cast Michelle Rodriguez (LOST, Resident Evil) as a soldiers voice in Halo 2. It's certainly interesting to see Bungie take the testosterone soaked genre of first-person shooters, amplified by 1000 when in multiplayer, and give it a twist. It's actually not that far of a stretch, anybody who played Metroid Prime looked at the world through a woman's eyes. Also, considering there is always a 12-year-old with a microphone in deathmatch, listening to those pre-pubescent cries means we listen to women's voices all the time anyway. Hey Bungie, go for it, most gamers prefer listening to the battle cries and death moans of a grown woman than a 12-year-old boy.[via GayGamer]

  • Ellen gives out first Wii during daytime TV

How would you like to be the first consumer in America to own a Wii? Too late as the embedded video shows a young gentleman has already received that honor by care of Ellen Degeneres. When she heard about this special young man who uses echolocation to see (think Marvel comics' Dare Devil), she decided to have him on the show and gift him with Nintendo's latest console. The video is embedded into the post after the break and comes in at a little over 8 minutes. The video lacks any gameplay or demonstration of the Wii, but this young man is just so interesting that we think it more than makes up for it.[Thanks student; via The Wiire]

  • Why haven't morning talk shows gone high-def yet?

Why have we yet to see any high-volume morning talk shows go high-def. It's not that we want to watch these shows but if a plasma really is more desired then a diamond, don't you think your wife/girlfriend would want to watch something she enjoys on your valentines gift. Live, The Martha Stewart Show, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show all seem like prime candidates for the high-def medium. They don't require many HD cams, all the sets are specular, and they garner huge followings. It would seem that shows like this would reach that un-touched women market. These three shows all take place in their own dedicated studio that features five to six different camera angles, max. All the backgrounds would be HD friendly plus, the sets being extra-wide already and these shows get such a large and dedicated audience. Plus, high-def will prove once and for all who colors their hair more -- Regis or Kelly.
