Why spend hours trolling dozens of different forum threads to find complaints about the PS3 to refute? Gaming Horizon has done the work for you, responding to ten of the most common PS3 issues discussed on forums around the web. It's one-stop shopping for all your pro- and anti-PS3 arguments! The pro-PS3 responses from three GH editors range from sympathetic to antagonistic to self-deprecating without descending into the sort of fanboy hyperbole that is common on forums. In fact, now that this document exists, we predict that all future forum threads on the topic will be closed and redirected to this calmer, more rational take on the issues. Also, temperatures in hell tomorrow will reach into the single digits and the first annual flying pig competition is predicting a record turnout.

You may have taken notice of a war in the land of handhelds recently. It turns out the conflict has spilled into next-gen streets (GASP!) as well. In the first, of what we assume will be many more, blows against Sony, You Tube user luigirulesnintendo has put together a video highlighting what he believes to be are the console's stellar attributes and superior capabilities above its more expensive competition. Thought I forgot about your beloved Video Sandwich? Of course not! For those of you that are new to the Sandwich, here's an overview: you get two videos as the "bread" and some commentary in the middle as the meat in the middle (or hummus, for you vegans). This time around, we have one awesome music video from the upcoming Lumines II. Entitled "Heavenly Star," the video was co-written by gaming guru Mizuguchi himself! It should put you in the right mood for some Lumines. Read up on the creation of this song and more at 1UP and expect some a lot more coverage of Lumines II soon. The bottom video is what I declare the end of the bickering between DS fanboys and PSP fanboys. You guys have waged a video war for too long. At last, we have a real winner in this console war, and it's not what you might expect...

  • Why fanboys make for poor marketers

There are plenty of signs that indicate when a letter has been thoughtlessly composed by a fanboy and the latest one to violate our inboxes boasts nearly all of them. Punctuation and grammar are horrifying and alien concepts, logic is tossed away like an explosive javelin and any semblance of coherence is dangerously teetering on the edge of a dark abyss. In other words, it usually elicits a few good laughs. We present to you the unedited letter we received from a fanboy urging us to purchase a PS3 (hint: it's a very powerful super computer). Sony PS3 is not a games console its actually a very powerful super computer because you can't have a games console which costs £425 people wouldn't buy it my PS3 magazine said that almost 50 percent of us say its better priced and some of us agreed that it was to expensive or cheap the main problem with PS3 is not the price at all its how many you are getting in the UK for last I heard they said there were going to be 4 million consoles shipped next year in March 2007 but you people have really got to respect Sony you can't say buy a 360 or Nintendo just because you can't afford the price on it its not Sony's fault and it isn't Kutaragi's either there is no point sitting on a sofa all day and night waiting for the PS3 to come out on launch day November 17th here is a list what you can do to wait for PS31. Enjoy what's on your PS2 collection at the moment2. Just don't buy anymore games for PS2 wait until the new PS3 comes out3. Get a Job earn money you need £425 so you can work hard for it but save it for PS3.4. Watch your DVDs more and enjoy your collection and get all the new releases on DVD complete all PS1 and PS2 games5. Don't waste money on 360 and Wii get a PS3 on launch day to get one you might have to pre - order it but you need to do that otherwise you won't get one you can get a good offer from GAME.

  • Podcasting PSP-style

One of my favorite things about the 2.80 firmware is its ability to download video podcasts. While visiting podOmatic, a sudden realization came into my mind: we can make our own podcast! (And so can you at podOmatic-- check it out, awesome site.) People have told us to make a PSP-compatible version of PSP Fanboy, but isn't a podcast so much better? Here's my proposal. The podcast will feature: A weekly audio show featuring Chris and myself, reviewing the best of PSP news. Why read when we can READ FOR YOU!!! Downloadable videos highlighting the best video content of the week. Maybe some more content/collaboration from Joystiq & the other Fanboy sites. (DS Fanboy VS. PSP Fanboy podcast? Bring it on!) And of course, it's all compatible with your PSP. So, vote in the poll above and then give us your comments below. With enough enthusiasm and support from you guys, it might be a reality! PSP Fanboy podcast? Hellz yeah! My 133t 1.5 PSP can't podcast, noobs! What's a podcast? You guys hate the PSP so much, it would be like listening to DS Fanboy.

  • 9 year old girl hates Loco Roco, flaming ensues

Through our comments section, I've learned that Joystiq (and this site as well) hates the PSP, Sony, you, and your mother. They recently posted a news story about a Loco Roco review posted by a nine year old girl (daughter of the author of The Xbox 360 Uncloaked). Here's an excerpt:"This game is for younger kids such as five- or six-year-olds. Older kids might not like it. The music is for two- or three-year-olds. It gets annoying with the baby singing. If you beat the level, you get a prize. I haven't beaten the whole level yet so I don't know what the prize is. I'd give this game a one out of four star rating."What I find absolutely hilarious is how this "kiddie" game seems to appeal to us adults more than this little kid. Even more hilarious are the fanboys flaming the girl on the site:Wow, that "review" was mediocre. The game is for all ages, just because some people are too shallow to look past certain things like music or graphics doesn't mean it's "for" any certain age range. - EdwardYou know what really deserved 1 out of 4 stars? This review... Why do you have a 9 year old review video games? Is it because it (Loco Roco) looks kiddy? Or does everybody think video games in general are kiddy? Well, they're not. - Slamming If it's such a baby game, why couldn't she beat the first level? - Captin Shmit Remember folks, it's always really cool to pick on a little girl on the internet.

At the risk of prompting the masses to shout, "Slow news day, huh?", I couldn't help but post this article from Aeropause. From the article:"Ever since man made the very first console there has existed a seedy under-culture of gamers. These gamers have chosen something to stand by forever, and no it's not graphics or the great games; it's the company they stand behind, and why would someone base every decision regarding their gaming future based on a company's past success? The simple answer is fanboyism, a disease that has affected millions! They separate themselves from the good fanboys because they believe that they possess the greatest console on the planet without consideration for the others out there."Of course, none of you fall into that category. We're talking about other fanboys. Seriously, it's just a fun little article that's worth a read. The Nintendo fanboy picture on the bottom left of the article is worth the price of admission* alone.*This is the internet, silly. It's free![Thanks, Dic k]

Hell hath no fury like a fanboy scorned. Lately, Sony's fan base has taken nuclear bomb-like hits to the gut for the PlayStation 3, so it's no surprise that some are ready to snap. Immortalized in YTMND form, a GameSpot caller who goes by the name of Jason16888 pretty much sums up every frustration each Sony sheep has been feeling lately. In his own high-pitched girl-like screams, our friend Jason goes into rants on such annoyances as PS3 game prices and bad marketing. He even mentions that he may do the worst thing ever for a Sony fanboy: buy an Xbox 360. Has it really come to this people?[via Kotaku]

  • Top five tips we turned down this week

Every day, Joystiq receives innumerable tips from people eager to guide our way through the world of video game news and culture. Most of the time, everything goes swimmingly: an interesting link pops up, you let us know, and we write it up. Sometimes, it doesn't go so smoothly. When we reject a tip, it may be because we've already reported on the story, or because the content of the tip isn't right for Joystiq. Other times, the rejected tip is dead wrong. Usually this is the fault of the source, not the tipster. Very often, rejected tips are also ones that, for whatever reason, make us laugh. This post is dedicated to the tipsters behind the tips that we didn't use this week.

So, I was chatting with my new taskmaster and fellow Uno addict, Chris Grant, on Friday. I was informing him that I had experienced a power outage that zapped one of my posts. The outage effectively obliterated the first rendition of this post, if you must know. That's really a shame, as the first draft exuded a perfection that cannot be retold. Had you seen it, there's a good chance you would never have known sadness again. Anywho, in response to my story, Chris -- bastion of wisdom that he is -- told me I should get a UPS for my computer (no, not PSU, a power supply, silly). This would protect both my valuable computer and my posts. Now, it just so happens that I do own a UPS. It's just not connected to my computer. Read on to sneak a peek at my inner fanboy.

So, an upcoming issue of Game Informer is going to drop the bomb that the Wii will ship with a built-in camera so you can slap your mug on in-game characters? Oh, so I guess pigs are also flying now? Honestly, how easy is it to write up a random prediction about news that will be located in a magazine, which since the internet have become pretty obsolete, and call is a scoop? Well, we here at Nintendo Wii Fanboy have a bit more integrity than that and are happy to report we've come across the scoop of a life time that we're ready to reveal, courtesy of a leaked issue of Nintendo Power, set to release in two months, in which Shigeru Miyamoto confirms that he enjoys muffins.Blueberry, to be exact. Now that's journalism, baby!

"Free" offers on the internet often come with annoying trials and lengthy cancellation procedures, but this one here's legit -- it's actually running from the subscription web site of the publisher of EGM, Ziff Davis Media. You may have seen this offer for 12 free issues of Electronic Gaming Monthly on Joystiq or other game sites out there. Basically, what's happening is the Ziff Davis Game Group is running a subscription drive for the mag, sponsored by the World Cyber Games. Free subs are only on offer through today, however, so get a move on if you want a piece of the printed action.Of course, EGM may be no OPM, but it's helpful for even the healthiest fanboy to get a balanced diet of multiplatform news and information on a regular basis. Also, please note that you're under no obligation to sign up for the World Cyber Games page which follows the EGM subscription one, so you can absolutely get your free mag without registering with the WCG.[Via Joystiq]

  • Joystiq: How the star system works

    by
    David Hinkle

    05.18.2006

Have you been a long-time poster at Joystiq or one of its awesome network-affiliated sites, only to see others have stars placed next to their name (or negatives) and wonder what exactly dictates that rewarding or stripping of star(s)?  Well, Joystiq's Vlad Cole has broken down the star system to show you exactly how it works. These guidelines apply to all the Joystiq network sites: Value: Does the comment enhance the topic at hand and add new perspective to the discussion? Is it a good question or interesting insight? Impartiality: This is hard, especially for Fanboy sites such as this, but as much as we loudly proclaim this system to be the superior, it detracts from the discussion at hand. It's OK to be touched with Fanboyitis, however try to curb it as best as you can as to not damage the topic at hand whilst commenting. Civility: This is just common sense. We all have opinions and want to share them, however as human beings we have the ability to exercise civility, even during the most heated debate. Other: Humor, wit, and bribes of cold, fresh chocolate milk. We like chocolate milk. As such, these are the guidelines followed when hiring Bloggers for the network (you have no idea how much chocolate milk it took for me to get the job), so keep that in mind should you one day wish to kill me and take my place. Vlad is answering as many questions as he can over at Joystiq, but if you post any questions here, we'll try the best we can to answer.

  • HD-DVD reviews: They like, not like, LOVE it

    by
    Richard Lawler

    04.27.2006

That's what Reuters is saying and if the poll Ken pointed out in AVS Forums is any indication, they are correct. Toshiba's HD-XA1 has, despite limited content, poor demos, massive size and little public awareness, found acceptance with initial buyers and reviewers. I know many of our readers will be shocked to hear this, but apparently there is a considerable audience waiting for high definition content free from nasty compression artifacts and limited television broadcast schedules. More interesting to note is that some buyers are expressing hesitance towards Blu-ray, with its players starting at $1000 and going up from there. Did they just interview some HD-DVD fanboys (Odds are high they did, with only 10,000 units in stores.), or is there a possibility even the early adopting home theater community won't spend that much on movies? Whatever the case may be, we know two things for sure. HD-DVD is currently the absolute best format with <7 titles available on the planet; and Blu-ray, the clock is ticking, better get in the game.[Updated (working) link]

  • European Nintendo fans: air your grievances

    by
    Jennie Lees

    03.29.2006

The European release of Animal Crossing: Wild World later this week heralds joy for many DS owners this side of the pond. Europeans have patiently waited for the game for months, since its release in other countries; however, a long delay on European Nintendo titles is the norm, rather than the exception.A disgruntled European Nintendo fan has set up a site called "NoE Watch" to highlight some of these problems, including a Hall of Fame and Hall of Shame for particularly good and bad release schedules. Looking at these lists, it's not all bad--titles like Another Code (Trace Memory) actually arrived in Europe before they made it to America. Perhaps European customers are too willing to focus on the bad side of these delays. The problem isn't Nintendo-specific; from delays of days to months, European customers have come to expect games later than their American friends, but the advent of online friends lists and the like mean that the difference is all too apparent.

The Joystiq Network of blogs continues to expand in number and breadth. The latest bundle of joy to get a slap on the ass, swaddled and sent out into the cruel, cruel Internet was born at precisely midnight EST this morning. As the proud parents, we here at Joystiq are looking forward to watching our baby make lots of new friends with fanboys and fangirls brimming with love and enthusiasm for Sony's PlayStation 3 console. At the same time, we'd like to remind readers that this doesn't spell the end of PS3 coverage on Joystiq. Instead, it signals a whole new level of obsession as the writers over at PS3fanboy catch wind of the latest and greatest PS3 items of interest and let us know about them.
