  • Third 'Badman' game coming to Europe as 'No Heroes Allowed'

The Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida series has undergone a number of name changes in localization. NIS America originally released the PSP's evil overlord hideout design game under the hilariously unwieldy title "Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This!?" Shortly before the release of the sequel, a trademark complaint forced NIS to change the series title to "What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!?" Now, a trailer released during Gamescom has revealed Sony Europe's plans to localize the third game, called Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida 3D in Japan, under yet another completely different title, the much pithier "No Heroes Allowed." This third game adds the ability to flood your dungeon with water in order to destroy any invading heroes, and also allows for competitive or cooperative multiplayer. Check out the trailer after the break, My Lord!

reddit_url='http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/08/17/first-video-of-guild-wars-2-gameplay-released/' Tweet var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/pc_games/First_video_of_Guild_Wars_2_gameplay_released_Massively'; It's what every Guild Wars fan has been waiting to see for what feels like forever: gameplay. We've seen the videos of in-game footage, and while they are beautiful, the first live demo is a completely different story for most fans. It's a chance to see Guild Wars 2 in action, and Italian gaming site Multiplayer.it won the race with an uploaded video of the public demo. The video is of the charr territory, presumably near the Dragonbrand given the corrupted charr below, and we get our first look at map travel as well as a few other things. With no further delay, let's get to the good stuff: follow along after the jump to see the Guild Wars 2 live demo. [Editor's Note: The Multiplayer.it stream is being hammered right now. If your video has trouble loading, please be patient, or perhaps try again later!] [Editor's Note 2: Flipped the video over to the YouTube version, as the prior stream was failing to launch.] [via Multiplayer.it]

  • New MAG beta downloadable for existing players August 24

Move support isn't the only sweeping change (and change in sweeping arm movements) coming to the world of MAG. Several new gameplay additions are on the way, and Zipper is recruiting current players to make sure those changes don't ruin the game forever. The beta, downloadable from the PlayStation Store starting August 24, includes the "Clan Deploy" feature, allowing leaders to choose gametypes and clan members; a new skill tree (with new skills!); a system that allows players to earn and spend "Credit Points," and even, yes, multiple character slots. Players will also get early access to the upcoming "Escalation" gametype, which will be released for real in future DLC. That mode has 96 players, representing all three factions, facing off in the same maps. Smells like the kind of thing you'd want to beta-test before releasing.

  • Medal of Honor's Tier 1 consultants stress gravity of gameplay

Medal of Honor is going to treat war seriously. No, really! EA doesn't want there to be any doubt in your mind that the game will respectfully display the kind of battles that actual Tier 1 operators experience on a regular basis. In fact, EA and DICE went as far as to get the actual Tier 1 operators that consulted on the game to explain as much in their latest trailer. As secretive and stealthy as these guys are, their faces aren't actually made of blurred pixels -- that's just EA concealing identities for security purposes, silly! Anyway, if these very serious gentleman speaking about their consulting positions very seriously doesn't convince you of MOH's seriousness, we're not sure what will. Perhaps this Linkin Park single?

We've got to hand it to Lionhead -- those guys sure know how to put together a compelling cross-section of their game using just a handful of still images. Take, for instance, the Fable 3 screenshots posted in the gallery below. Therein, you'll witness: A dude with a giant hammer A bunch of skeletons who are about to be shot with a pretty, pretty gun A Napoleonic lookalike who's wielding offensive magic What appears to be an exploding train engine So, so many fancy articles of clothing Check out the ten new screens below as you try to decide exactly what type of frock coat your royal protagonist will sport. We're thinking of going with a high-waisted, double-breasted robin's egg blue frock coat with white trim and gold buttons. Something subtle yet elegant, you know? %Gallery-99612%

  • Killzone 3 multiplayer trailer power-armors up

Sony couldn't possibly stage its Gamescom 2010 press conference without spotlighting its FPS mega-sequel, Killzone 3. So we've gotten a new trailer for the game -- the same one screened for attendees -- that provides a first glimpse at the new game's multiplayer component in action. Big, metal, stomping action. In addition to the usual running around in squads shooting the bad guys, this footage shows something we wished Killzone 2's multiplayer featured but never did: the ability to use giant powered exoskeletons to smash your opponents. (The single-player mode's jetpacks are in there, too.) Sadly, the exoskeleton doesn't appear to transform into a jeep or other vehicle -- that's for Killzone 4, obviously. For now, we'll just have to make do with what you can see in the video after the break.

Set to the tune of "House of the Rising Sun," the InFamous 2 Gamescom trailer (embedded past the break) gives us the lowdown on the current state of turmoil that has befallen the town of New Marais. Fret not: though the majority of the trailer shows "slice of life" panoramic stills of the city, we do get a sampling of MacGrath's power at the conclusion. It would seem the dude's battery hasn't lost its charge since 2009.

We know you just got that Passion Pit song from LittleBigPlanet 2's debut trailer out of your head, so we apologize for the video posted just after the break. Sony's Gamescom 2010 press conference offered its crowded attendees a look at even more of the customizable sequel's creation tools, such as the music editor and cutscene direction process. It also shows off more of the main campaign's multitude of colorful backdrops -- all set to the infinitely brain-adhering "Sleepyhead." Check out the new video after the jump -- and keep your fingers crossed for a chance to get in the upcoming LittleBigPlanet 2 closed beta test.

Insomniac has announced a new Ratchet & Clank game for the PlayStation 3. Yeah, we know you've heard that one before, but this time it's a four-player, online co-op platformer. Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One features drop-in / drop-out play between four characters -- Ratchet, Clank, Qwark and Dr. Nefarious -- and blatantly discourages space diplomacy by equipping everyone with absurd weaponry. Thankfully, that part of the franchise hasn't changed. Look for Ratchet and Clank and those two other guys in stores during Fall 2011. (Dibs on Qwark!) %Gallery-99656%

Reakktor Media and Gamigo have just released a heart-pounding new Black Prophecy gameplay trailer at Gamescom 2010. The teaser, which clocks in at just under two minutes, is full of fast and furious space combat footage from the upcoming free-to-play MMORPG. Black Prophecy aims to fill the void in the MMO space-shooter market, and you can learn more about the upcoming title, as well as register for beta, at the official website. Be sure and view the trailer after the cut or via our YouTube portal.

Insomniac Games has announced not one, but two games at Gamescom. Resistance 3 is described as the company's "Worst. Secret. Ever." The Burbank studio is working on the "cruel and brutal" PS3-exclusive sequel. Based on the logo, it appears that the Chimera are taking the fight to NYC. (Aliens seem to love the place!) A live action teaser trailer was shown at the PlayStation press conference at Gamescom. We hope to have the video available on the site shortly. Update: Now embedded after the break!

You won't have to wait until SOCOM 4 to see PlayStation Move owners duke it out with standard DualShock players. During Sony's Gamescom press conference, Zipper showed off an enhanced version of MAG that adds support for Sony's motion controller. Hopefully, someone will coordinate a 64v64 battle of the controllers to see exactly which control scheme reigns supreme once this update goes live. In addition to MAG, another surprise announcement during the conference was Virtua Tennis 4. Sega's tennis franchise will be back next year to explore the sorely underrepresented motion-controlled tennis genre. The game will also support 3D.%Gallery-99650%

The Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Gamescom keynote is about to get underway in Cologne – last year it brought us the PlayStation 3 Slim, so who knows what this year has in store. We should be getting underway soon ... just so long as the WiFi holds up. What we're hoping for: Some more HD remasters ... like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. There was a rumor about BBC4 being available on demand on PS3, perhaps we'll get a confirmation of that. So head on after the break and join us.

The third announcement of a 160GB PS3 is the most meaningful one yet, because this time it's officially from Sony. The company announced the new hardware configuration at its Gamescom presentation, along with a new 320GB configuration! The 160GB model will arrive in Europe in October, for 299 Euros, according to our man on the ground at Gamescom. It will replace the 120GB model as the standard. The 320GB version will be available September 15, as part of a Move bundle, for 349 Euros. Update: Sony announced a North American release for both of these systems on the PlayStation Blog. The 160GB is shipping to retail now for $300, and the 320GB Move bundle, with Sports Champions, a Move controller, a PlayStation Eye, and a demo disc, will be out September 19 for $400. %Gallery-99655%

    08.17.2010

EA has announced that, for a limited time at launch, a Limited Edition of Crysis 2 will be available for the same price as the standard edition. In other words, "buy the game immediately." The "Limited Edition" includes bonus experience points in multiplayer, a "SCAR Hologram Decoy" that allows players to project an image of themselves, a "SCAR Weapon Skin" in digital camouflage, and an in-game Platinum Dog Tag. Not extravagant enough? EA also announced the Crysis 2 Nano Edition, which despite its name is quite a bit larger. It'll include the Limited Edition of the game, a steel case, an 11" statue of the protagonist atop an NYC taxi, and an art book. And all of that's inside a backpack (designed to resemble the Nanosuit). This outrageous special edition will only be available via pre-order from EA, for $149.99, £119.99, or EUR 129.99. In addition, EA announced that a closed beta will be held for Xbox 360 players "later this year." Enjoy some new gameplay footage after the break, and learn about the announced multiplayer modes here.%Gallery-99640%

We are now less in the dark about the Dark Ages version of The Sims. During its Gamescom 2010 presentation, EA announced a March 2011 release date for The Sims Medieval. This iteration of the mega-popular life adds more than the poor plumbing and widespread illiteracy of the age: it also adds quest-based gameplay that allows you to gradually expand your kingdom with the help of a user-created "hero."%Gallery-99636%

  • David Beckham joins the EA Sports Active 2 'team'

    08.17.2010

A torn Achilles tendon might have kept David Beckham out of the World Cup, but he's still fit enough to start playing for the EA Sports Active 2 team. Peter Moore announced the soccer superstar's signing during EA's Gamescom press conference today, as the first of what should be several promotional spots of an active Beckham aired on a big screen behind the executive. Beckham will be on loan to EA in a "brand ambassador" capacity, which is to say his handsome mug will be plastered all over EA Sports Active 2 marketing materials across Europe and Australia; though it seems he will not appear in the US advertising campaign, despite being a "part time player" for the Los Angeles Galaxy. It also seems that he won't appear in the actual game -- too bad, since we've always wanted to learn how to bend like Beckham from the man himself.
