It's only been a few months since I started writing the Runes of Magic column, but it seems much longer than that. I love writing these guides, tips, and opinion pieces for fans of this awesome MMO, but I felt something was missing. Even after all the terrific comments and discussions from players, there seems to be many people who haven't tried RoM yet. Seeing comments -- almost weekly -- about people saying they are going to try RoM is really cool. I am a huge fan of the game, and it's my intention to bring the fun and excitement of it to you, through my articles. I'm not hoping that I stop hearing about new players, because those comments are a small sign I've succeeded in my writings, but I do want to take the opportunity to present a "call to arms". RoM is an amazing one-of-a-kind MMO that has captured my imagination and adventure for fun. It can be all too easy to lump this game into an already complicated world of free-to-play MMOs, and dismiss it as "more of the same". It really isn't more of the same. Let's take a look at how this MMO is different, fun, steadily growing, and branching out into the MMO community. This article should catch everyone up on the current status of the game, and how it has faired in the spotlight.

If you were planning that trip to Cologne next month just to play some Capcom games, we'd suggest hitting up your airline for a refund. The publisher "pulled a Sega" today, opting not to exhibit to the public during Germany's GamesCom expo. Capcom Europe explained its no-show at the event on its blog, suggesting that it would only have one title to showcase out of its confirmed second-half 2010 lineup: Sengoku Basara. But what about Dead Rising 2 -- it's set for September, right? "Since we are still awaiting a verdict from the USK for Dead Rising 2 it would be remiss of us to promote the sequel to consumers in Germany," Capcom explained. Good point -- the first Dead Rising was banned there, after all. Of Sengoku Basara, the one game it would have considered showing, Capcom said that, although it's "a great title," the company "cannot justify solely exhibiting this one game." Of course, the GamesCom show floor will still be loaded with major exhibitors, including Activision, Electronic Arts, Konami, Microsoft, Namco Bandai, Sony, Take-Two, THQ, Ubisoft, Warner Bros. and ZukunftsAgentur Brandenburg GmbH. What do you mean you haven't heard of the last one?

Looking for a new, slinky Xbox 360 but don't have 250GB worth of stuff to archive on there? Sprechen Sie deutsch? Sehr gut! Amazon Germany has posted up what appears to be solid details about the cousin of the new Xbox 360 revealed at E3. Where that model has a 250GB HDD stuffed up inside, this one appears to have 4GB of some sort of flash memory and a price listed as €148.99 -- about $190. It's also listed as being a "bundle," meaning it's likely there's a game, extra controller, or novelty hat included as well. And, the thing is said to be shipping on August 20, which just so happens to be when Gamescom 2010 takes over Cologne. Finally, Cologne just so happens to be in Germany. Another surprise unveiling and announcement of units shipping immediately? We wouldn't bet against it -- except for the "surprise" bit.

  • Sega skipping GamesCom 2010

Sega has decided it will not attend Europe's massively successful GamesCom in Cologne, Germany this year. The publisher told VG247 in a statement that the show "continues to be the most important European event in the calendar," but that it was a "commercial decision" not to attend in 2010. It would appear that Sega is trying to save some of the cash it made in its last fiscal year. That means Vanquish, Sonic 4 and Valkyria Chronicles 2 (which could really use all the promotion it can get) will not be working the goods when the convention takes place August 18-22.

With America's Game Developers Conference 2010 only a few short weeks away, it has now been announced that GDC Europe 2010 will be taking place in Cologne, Germany again this year. The conference will open its doors on Monday, August 16 and run until Wednesday, August 18. The event will include a new area, the GDC Europe Business Lounge, which will "host a VIP lounge area for GDC Europe Plus members to convene and conduct business." Once again, GDC Europe will be taking place alongside GamesCom, which runs August 18-22. In case you don't remember last year's coverage of the two events, GamesCom and GDC Europe constitute a positively massive gaming event. Expect them to generate lots of late summer gaming news in the lull between E3 and TGS.

Europe's ginormous GamesCom in Cologne, Germany looks like it's trying to eliminate whatever possible competition it may have from Games Convention Online in Leipzig this year. The first details about the 2010 convention reveal that organizers are planning an "area dedicated to online and browser games," which was kinda Leipzig's thing for its 43,000 visitors that attended GCO last year. Beyond that, GamesCom already has its website set up for companies to start registering for the show and for people to start booking their travel arrangements. Last year's inaugural edition of GamesCom welcomed an astounded 245,000 attendees and event organizers are planning on having even more people this year.
