[UPDATE: All winners have been selected and contacted. Thanks to everyone who entered!] On the seventh day of giveaways, NCsoft gave to me... seven years of memories! On the sixth day of giveaways, GamersFirst gave to me... six retail packs! On the fifth day of giveaways, Trion gave to me... five subscription codes! On the fourth day of giveaways, Nexon gave to me... four pet items! On the third day of giveaways, Wargaming.net gave to me... three premium years! On the second day of giveaways, BioWare gave to me... two warring factions! On the first day of giveaways, Turbine gave to me... a lifetime VIP! We're carrying on with the 12 Days of Giveaways! Day seven has arrived, bringing seven years of history, development, and memories. That's right: Lineage II. While free-to-play games are a dime a dozen these days, it's much more rare to be handed a free-to-play game that already has seven years of content, polish, and updates behind it. NCsoft has given us a great Lineage II item to celebrate those seven years and the transition to free-to-play: a Darkmane Pacer mount bracelet. We've got 12 of those to hand out to some lucky Lineage II fans. Even better, the Darkmane Pacer comes bundled with a sampling of awesome items from the rest of NCsoft's lineup: a digital copy of Guild Wars: Eye of the North, a Guild Wars mercenary hero, 30 days of City of Heroes VIP status, an Aion Collector's Edition upgrade, and a pack of five True White dyes for an Aion character. Enjoy the mount in Lineage 2 and treat your gamer friends to some holiday goodies or enjoy a sampling of the NCsoft lineup all for yourself! In either case, enter by telling us about your Lineage 2 gameplay: Are you a longtime adventurer, a returning player, or just now setting foot in Aden for the first time? Let us know before the entry deadline: tomorrow, December 20th, at 3:00 p.m. EST. Check out the contest rules for eligibility, and best of luck!

On the third day of giveaways, Wargaming.net gave to me... three premium years! On the second day of giveaways, BioWare gave to me... two warring factions! On the first day of giveaways, Turbine gave to me... a lifetime VIP! We're at the halfway point of our 12 Days of Giveaways thanks to GamersFirst and APB: Reloaded. Remember earlier this month when we told you about the new retail boxed edition of the game? Well, if you liked it, you're in luck. GamersFirst has put together six digital copies of that edition, wrapped them up in a big bow, and put them under our virtual tree. Six lucky Massively readers will win a bundle containing 30 days of premium access, 500 G1 credits, a faction-specific sports car, and a special secondary weapon. If you win, look very carefully because Santa Paro (/rimshot) has slipped one more extra special item into each pack. We'll save that one for a surprise! Want to get your hands on one of these codes? To enter, simply leave a comment answering the burning question: enforcer or criminal? The entry deadline is tomorrow, December 19th, at 2:00 p.m. EST. • MMObility: A first look at Conquer Online for the iPad and a giveaway

    by

    12.16.2011

Over the last few weeks, I've been checking out Conquer Online for the iPad. I don't really have anything to compare the game to because I never played the full PC version, but the mobile version I played felt a lot like a "real" full MMO. I logged in, made a character, and ran around the lands doing quests and leveling, just like in a normal client-based game. This should not be that surprising at this point in the world of mobile development. There have been several "real" MMOs made for the iPad and other devices. Celtic Heroes has been trying to achieve that classic look for a while now and has come pretty darn close. There's World of Midgard as well, made by the same developers who are releasing the cross-platform Lords at War very soon. I was told that Conquer Online should feel a bit like Ultima Online on the iPad, but I'm not sure about that. Yes, it features the isometric view that we are all so familiar with in UO, but I don't think the comparison holds up beyond that. Click past the cut and I'll break it down for you. Also, if you would like to receive a free super item pack for the game, you'll find it at the end of the article!

[UPDATE: All winners have been selected and contacted. Thanks for entering!] On the third day of giveaways, Wargaming.net gave to me... three premium years! On the second day of giveaways, BioWare gave to me... two warring factions! On the first day of giveaways, Turbine gave to me... a lifetime VIP! Day three of Massively's 12 Days of Giveaways has arrived, and World of Tanks joins our lineup with a bang (har har). The generous team at Wargaming.net has given us three codes, each worth a year of WoT premium account status. Premium account holders enjoy bonuses to XP and credits earned in battle, along with plenty of other perks in game. The World of Tanks crew has added one more present under our virtual tree, and it's an impressive one. This one is for new players only. If you don't have a World of Tanks account yet, visit our giveaway page and pick up a code for a gift package containing one day of premium access, 300 gold, and a T2 light tank. Create your new account using this link, and when you are asked "Have an invite code?" key in your new code. These codes are good on North American and European servers. Now, how about that year of premium? You can still enter even if you picked up a new player code. All you need to do to enter is be eligible according to our official contest rules, then hit the comment button and let us know what you like most about World of Tanks. The deadline to enter is tomorrow, December 16th, at 11:00 a.m. EST. Best of luck, and thanks to Wargaming.net for the prizes!

On the first day of giveaways, Turbine gave to me... a lifetime VIP! Welcome to day two! BioWare is joining the lineup today with... well, double-bladed sabers and dancing Twi'leks. It may not invoke the hilarity of the holiday machinima, but the Star Wars: The Old Republic crew is going to make one Massively reader very happy with a digital copy of SWTOR! Our winner will receive a retail code for the standard digital edition of the game, so if you're ready to jump into SWTOR for free, read on to see how to enter! Bigpoint's in the news again this week, and for once the company is steering clear of microtransaction controversies. It seems as if there's a giveaway afoot, and Battlestar Galactica Online fans will be pleased to note that they have a chance to win a life-size Cylon statue (settle down guys, it's a Centurion, not a Number Six). The browser-based sci-fi MMO also features 15 new paint jobs for Cylon and Colonial ships, each of which may be purchased with real money or in-game credits. Bigpoint says more color schemes are on the way, and oh yeah, if you want a chance at the statue, you'll need to log in at least five times during the month of December. Head to the official BSGO forums for the official contest rules.

  • The Daily Grind: Would a closed beta key giveaway convince you to try a new game?

    Rubi Bayer
    Rubi Bayer
    11.29.2011

If there's one thing we love at Massively, it's giving goodies away to our readers. We share real-world items, virtual game items, and beta keys galore. That last item is an interesting one because there are so many varying factors to a closed beta key giveaway. How many keys are there? How long is the testing period? How polished is the game so far? Is the game super hot or will this giveaway be the first time some of our readers have heard of the game? If it is, then a closed beta key giveaway is as much a promotional tool as it is a testing opportunity for the developer. There's nothing wrong with that, of course -- the more the merrier. But does it work for you? If you see a beta key up for grabs, will you take one and use the opportunity to see what this new game is like? Are there criteria besides "hey, free key"? Hit the comment button and let us know! Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

    11.25.2011

Black Friday sales started ridiculously early for Americans this year, with stores opening at midnight on Friday and even 10:00 p.m on Thursday in some cases. Thanks to that, you've probably done your shopping, hauled your loot home, and recovered from the insanity as you read this. Alternatively, you avoided the insanity entirely because really, a cheap Blu-Ray player isn't worth the risk of death by trampling. In either case, if you're in the U.S., you're hanging out at home enjoying your day off work or school, ready to indulge in some gaming. The developers at Spiral Knights are right there with you and have whipped up a cool little accessory for your Spiral Knights characters. The Regal Parrying Blade is a decorative sword that you can get only here at Massively. All you need to do is visit our giveaway page to pick up a code, then log into Spiral Knights. Click on the "gear" icon in the top corner of your game screen, select "redeem code" from the options menu, and enter your code. Voila, you're the proud owner of a brand-new Regal Parrying Blade. Join us in thanking the Spiral Knights team for this gift, and have fun!

    11.16.2011

EverQuest's 18th expansion launched yesterday, complete with a level cap raise and plenty of new content and tweaks. Veil of Alaris is an exciting addition to the game for both players and developers, and the EverQuest team has decided to mark the occasion with a little gift. The developers have sent us a copy of EverQuest: The 10th Anniversary Collector's Edition, a large hardcover book filled with interviews, art, the original storyline, and much more. There's also one more little detail: our copy is signed by the original development team from 1999. That's right, just inside the cover are the signatures of the 18 people who first created the world of EverQuest. Of course, we're not keeping it for ourselves; we're passing it on to one of you. So what do you need to do to get your hands on this book? Simply leave us a comment here telling us about your earliest experience with EverQuest. It can be anything you like -- people you met, your overall thoughts and impressions as you entered the world, even a particular quest or battle that made you say, "This is it -- I love this game." Leave your comment before this Friday, November 18th, at 11:59 p.m. EST. We'll choose and contact our favorite over the weekend and send the book to the winner Monday. Ready? Head down memory lane, and good luck! [UPDATE: Our winner has been chosen and contacted. Thanks to all who entered!]
