If you were thinking of hunting down a very expensive gift for that special someone this holiday season, the Guitar Hero: World Tour full band kit might not be the best option. During a conference call yesterday, Activision CEO Robert Kotick commented that the full kit has been "virtually sold out across the channel." He also admitted that his company might not be able to meet demand this holiday season. So, if you're a mom that had exceptional children throughout this year, you might want to phone Santa and have him snatch one up as soon as possible. There's a good chance you won't see them on store shelves for a little while.%Gallery-23491%[Via Joystiq]

  • Guitar Hero World Tour bundle 'virtually' sold out, holiday demand may not be met

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick revealed in a conference call yesterday, following the company's Q2 results, that he's "been surprised" by Guitar Hero World Tour's sales. The company's publishing boss, Mike Griffith, says that GHWT's band kit is "virtually sold out across the channel" and the company is "not likely" to meet holiday demand.Activision revealed over 24 million units have been sold in the Guitar Hero franchise to date, with the series rockin' the sales charts in '08. The company states it is outselling Rock Band 2 by a "very wide margin," but for actual data regarding the claim's validity, it appears we'll have to wait until the NPD sales numbers are released in a couple weeks.

  • Activision: Subscription-based GH Tunes a possibility in Guitar Hero games

Claiming that GH Tunes – the make-your-own-song tool in Guitar Hero World Tour – has "greatly exceeded" its expectations, Activision's Bobby Kotick mentioned the potential to sell subscriptions to that content during a conference call earlier today: "In just 10 days, our GH Tunes has attracted over 25,000 user-generated songs which means we'll likely have up to 100,000 songs by the year end. These songs are easily downloaded by consumers and the ability to offer these songs on a subscription basis may very well result in the newest subscription opportunities in our portfolio."After just one quarter of raking in that World of Warcraft money and Activision's already hooked on subscription fees, eying up its entire portfolio the way a hungry cartoon wolf sees the world in shades of ham bones. But (the currently unlimited) GH Tunes songs? Really? Why not a subscription to the regular DLC tracks (which Activision has sold over 25m units of, for both Xbox 360 and PS3 to date)? Because, really, what we want to blow our hard-earned blogging money on is poor facsimiles of classic rock hits and not the real things. Really.

  • Activision targeting real musicians with fake instruments

Activision has revealed the next stage in its plan to take over the world with plastic instruments: selling Guitar Hero: World Tour to real musicians. From November 14th, World Tour will start appearing in a number of musical instrument outlets. Now that we think about it, this could be a winner for everybody concerned, really. Guitar Hero players who want to progress to the real thing might have their head turned, musical instrument stores get a small slice of Activision's money-filled pie, and seeing fake instruments next to the real thing should further irritate the anti-fun types who sniffily ask why people "can't just learn a real instrument" whenever the subject of music games is raised. And hurray for that.%Gallery-23491%[Via MCV]

Here's your sexually explicit video of the day. It's Heidi Klum, undressing, and dancing around the living room in her undergarments to promote Activision's Guitar Hero World Tour. Best part, there's no Tony Hawk or Kobe to be found. We think talking about Heidi Klum nearly naked pretty much sells this video and pretty much secures your click towards the break. Go ahead, click towards the break to witness Heidi Klum undressed and shaking her "goods" to sell World Tour.

When we were flipping around the channels and caught our first glimpse at the above Guitar Hero: World Tour commercial, we cringed at just how bad the whole thing was. With Kobe's terrible lip-syncing and A-Rod's inability to look like he has any rhythm, the whole thing came off as very forced to us. Kobe has probably never even heard of Bob Seger. Past the break, you'll find the newest Guitar Hero: World Tour ad, which features Heidi Klum. What do supermodels do when playing Guitar Hero: World Tour? Apparently, they strip then have an epileptic seizure on the couch.%Gallery-23491%

Inspired by everyone doing their civic duty this Election Day, we'd like to announce a bold new initiative called "Share-A-Hit." Here's how it works: We'll be collecting all the traffic we get from the utterly ridiculous video after the break and donating it to less fortunate web pages. Because honestly, we feel too guilty about it to keep the thousands and thousands of hits we'll be getting. ... And we will. So please, share this post with a friend. Because every time you send someone after the break to watch Heidi Klum dancing in her underwear to support Guitar Hero World Tour, you're helping to bring another set of eyeballs to some deserving Small Wonder fanfic site or black Neil Diamond impersonator that truly needs them.Thank you and God bless.[Via GameDaily]

The solution announced last week that proposes to fix the problems occurring with your brand-new plastic drum set from Guitar Hero: World Tour is now available for download. Officially named the Drum Controller Standard Tuning Kit, this Windows program (sorry Apple and Linux users!) should solve your sensitivity troubles. Too bad though, cause you'll also need an midi-USB cable, which you are unlikely to already possess. Luckily, you can get one for free from Red Octane. Of course, you'll still need to wait for the cable to get to you ... and who knows how long that will take. You can download the tuning kit here and request for a midi-USB cable here.[Via Joystiq]

As someone who writes on the Internets, I do a lot of reading as well. As just about any successful author will advise, if I want to be a better writer then I should be reading as much as possible. Thus, I tend to spend a good amount of time scouring the gaming websites and reading commentary from just about anyone. I wouldn't insult anyone by pointing out flaws in their work (as I'm host to many of my own), but it is sufficient to say that there is great diversity in the quality and other general attributes of gaming commentary. One source that I do consistently enjoy comes from GoNintendo's head honcho, known as RawmeatCowboy. Equal parts Nintendo fan and beard enthusiast, RMC has a passion for gaming unmatched by nearly anyone else in the entire industry. Whereas some journalists and commentators may give off an impression of jaded cynicism, this particular blogger is a bundle of video game-loving joy. Though he's not quite the wordsmith of a Jerry Holkins, his joy and optimism transcend any potential criticism. And after all, that should be the reason we play video games: for happiness. Stepping away from worshipping his shrine, I'll get back on target. In a recent post, RMC discusses offline multiplayer via a get-together involving several friends of his trying out Guitar Hero: World Tour. He states that multiplayer is more enjoyable in person than online, and I find it difficult to disagree. That is not to say that online multiplayer is garbage; quite the opposite is true. Aside from the obvious pragmatics of not always being able to round up a few friends to play a game you enjoy, there's the global aspect behind online gaming. Though I've been battling people online via chess years before any major console had such capabilities, the enormous power of the technology didn't register with me until very recently. As I was connecting to an online race in Mario Kart Wii, the identification of racers on the globe really hit home. Realizing that I was simultaneously connecting with individuals from Japan, China, Germany, and England was strangely beautiful. Despite the fascinating global implications of such connections, I remain a bit of a luddite in that I don't think there's anything better than having your friends in the same room with you while fighting with or against each other. Here's the Top 5 ways we recommend that you enjoy such opportunities. • GHWT drum tuning app now available, Red Octane shipping midi-USB cables for free

Well, dear readers, we've got good news and we've got bad news ... and then we've got good news again. The (first) good news -- the promised Guitar Hero: World Tour drum tuning application is now available for download on Red Octane's customer support site. The bad news is that the application requires you to connect your drum kit to your computer using a midi-USB cable, which we imagine few of you actually possess. The (second) good news -- Red Octane is shipping these cables, free of charge, to anyone who requests one on their support site.We suppose it's bad news that we'll be waiting for these cables to ship before we can give our drum kits some much-needed sensitivity training -- on the other hand, the fact that we won't be dealing with any suggestive, RealDoll-sized replacement boxes (or the resulting judgment from nosy neighbors) is good news indeed.[Thanks, Eric G.]

Some Guitar Hero: World Tour players are reporting sensitivity issues with the drums -- basically, that they have to pound the hell out of them to register a hit. If you're tired of having to go all Keith Moon all the time, Activision and Neversoft have a solution for you, and it's kind of an unexpected one: drum sensitivity tuning software.Activision has released Windows-based tuning software which will allow players to connect their drum kits to their PCs and manually alter the sensitivity of each input. If that doesn't help, provided your overworked (but totally buff) arms can deal with the searing pain of motion long enough to lift the phone, you can report your sensitivity issues to Activision online or by phone at (310)255-2050.%Gallery-23491%[Via Joystiq]

In addition to announcing new track packs, Neversoft has issued a trio of updates concerning the Guitar Hero World Tour drumset. First off, those who have been experiencing sensitivity issues with the set will be happy to know that the developer will be releasing a drum controller tuning kit for Windows "very soon," so users can self-tune their skins at home. Neversoft also recommends that if you're currently having issues, you should contact Activision customer support. For Xbox 360 owners, the ION Drum Rocker compatibility patch should now be available for download. As for PlayStation 3 owners still waiting on the promised GHWT drum compatibility with Rock Band 2, Neversoft said it's all up to Harmonix to release an update for the game. We'll poke them again to see if we can get an ETA on that patch.

We know we said that unlocking every Rock Band 2 song using a cheat code wasn't, in fact, cheating at all but rather a singular act of rock and roll rebellion; a quick 10-button eff you to the establishment. Well, if you followed our logic there, then what can we say about Guitar Hero World Tour's unlock code, first distributed to the responsible folks who preordered the game through GameStop?Well, one of 'em did manage to share the code with The Internet, so that's pretty rock and roll. And also, since when is repackaging the allure of real rock and roll into a more palatable, mainstream package any less rock and roll? For every Beatles there's a Monkees; for every Monkees, there's a New Monkees. And with that in mind, we present you the cheat code to unlock every Guitar Hero World Tour song. Just plug this string of buttons into the "Cheats" section under the "Options" menu: Blue, Blue, Red, Green, Green, Blue, Blue, Yellow.

If, for some reason, you suddenly find yourself both in need of an extra Wii Guitar Hero controller and a little light on cash -- no idea what could put so many people in such a state at this particular time -- you may be interested in today's Amazon Deal of the Day.For $25.98 (just enough to qualify for free shipping!), the retailer is offering the Nyko Frontman guitar controller in either white or yellow. Both include interchangeable pickguards for a bit of customization. Of course, this guitar was originally designed for Guitar Hero III, and consequently does not feature the freaky touch pad business that the newer World Tour guitars do. But as a second guitar (or a bass) it should be fine.

No, it's not just your imagination, Guitar Hero fans: Activision has now admitted that (as several fans reported over the weekend) there is a problem with some of the World Tour drum kits. "We have learned that certain drum kit controllers manufactured for Guitar Hero World Tour have sensitivity issues," the company said in a written statement. "We believe that these controllers are limited to ones in the earlier manufacturing stages."Though Activision plans on releasing a drum tuning kit to help with the issue, those affected should be able to get some more immediate help by calling customer support at 310-255-2050 or hitting them up on the web. Oh, and Activision? There will be a special place in corporate hell for you if you charge for this "tuning kit." Just saying.[Via X3F]
