From now through December 31st, Activision is bribing enticing those in the market for a musical game this holiday by offering up free downloadable content with purchase of Guitar Hero World Tour. According to the official Guitar Hero website, those who purchase the World Tour bundle by December's end will be treated to five downloadable tracks. Exactly which tracks, we aren't sure. The promotion isn't yet live, but if you already own or are purchasing the World Tour bundle, keep this page bookmarked for future promo details. Can't complain about free music, right?[Via Shacknews]

We've not been excited for a track pack for either of this year's rhythm offerings for quite some time now, but a press release from Activision recently perked up our beret-covered ears. In addition to the Guitar Hero: World Tour Nirvana track pack that was promised to drop today, "European Track Pack 01" also crept onto the PSN/XBLM/Wii, bringing with it a track from one of the hottest musical sensations currently sweeping our homeland -- French rock outfit BB Brunes' hit song "Dis Moi".In addition to today's Euro-tracks, another three-song international sampler will be made available for World Tour-ers to download "later this month." The standard pricing of GH: WT track packs applies -- 440 (XBLM)/$5.49 (PSN) for the whole pack, or 160 (XBLM)/$1.99 (PSN)/200 Wii Points for just one song.European Track Pack 01 (Today): "'54, '74, '90, 2010" - Sportfreunde Stiller (Germany) "Mama Mae" - Negrita (Italy) "Dis Moi" - BB Brunes (France) European Track Pack 02 (Later this month): "Degenerated" - Backyard Babies (Sweden) "Por La Boca Vive El Pez" - Fito Y Fitipaldis (Spain) "Johnny" - Di-Rect (Netherlands)

We knew it was coming and it's finally available for download. The Nirvana track pack for Guitar Hero: World Tour features songs "Negative Creep," "Sliver" and "You Know You're Right," with each costing you a cool 200 Wii Points. As usual, if you want to hear the songs before you go spending, head past the break. Because Activision loves you all equally, it's decided to offer a bunch of downloadable Guitar Hero World Tour tracks from European bands. Our knowledge of non-UK European music extends to ABBA, Kraftwerk, and, embarrassingly, 2 Unlimited, so we're laughably out of our depth commenting on these (though Swedish group Backyard Babies already appeared in Guitar Hero III, so that name does ring a bell). Mind you, some of them sound pretty good (videos of all six follow the break), and we're certain our millions of Dutch readers are going wild over the inclusion of Di-Rect. 200 Wii points each, if you're interested. As part of the Guitar Her World Tour's plan for December DLC world domination, new Nirvana and European music has make its way to the Xbox Live Marketplace. In total, there are six new tracks available a la cart for 160 Microsoft points or as Nirvana or European three packs for 440 points. To be honest, we've never heard of the European bands (sorry, we're not that musically hip), but are well aware of the three Nirvana songs. A few we'd highly recommend. • Rock Band 2 welcomes Guitar Hero instruments [update]

[Update: IGN has pulled the post, at the request of one of the companies involved with the game. Yikes.]IGN added further confirmation of a December release date for the Wii version of Rock Band 2, which is no doubt a comfort to many holiday gift-givers who may otherwise have a big hole in their shopping lists. However, IGN's preview states that it's coming out December 22, while GameStop said December 18. At least we're zeroing in on a specific day!The most awesome news, however, is that IGN tried out the Wii Guitar Hero: World Tour instruments -- and they worked, as did Guitar Hero 3 guitars. They didn't have any Rock Band 2 instruments to test with Guitar Hero, unfortunately, but we're thrilled to hear about any interoperability at all. Oh, and if the new video at the top of the post didn't clue you in, there are some new videos.[Thanks, face!]

  • Nyko's Metal Pedal adds weight to your gaming drum kits

Dry your eyes, drummer. We feel your sense of loss at the news that Rock Band 2 may not be getting its promised second kick pedal after all, ruling out proper reenactments of Lars' two-foot prowess (without a little modding). Now at least you can improve the quality of that one kicker you do have, replacing it with something a little more weighty. Nyko's aptly-named Metal Pedal, a bargain at $20, works with both Rock Band games as well as Guitar Hero: World Tour on all platforms, and is made of real metal to give a more authentic heft. No, nothing will feel quite like the real thing, but it's surely better than that cracked hunk of plastic you've been meaning to send back to Harmonix for months.

click to enlarge Have you be cursed with the world's heaviest feet? Do you leave footprints in concrete? Do you go through Rock Band or Guitar Hero bass pedals like tissue paper? If you answered yes to the third question, Nyko has your solution, the Metal Pedal. The pedal is compatible with Guitar Hero: World Tour as well as both the original Rock Band and Rock Band 2 and is metal plated to stand up to your torturous kicking. Unfortunately, the Metal Pedal isn't hitting stores until January 2009, so you'll have to wait a bit before you can fork over the $20 price tag. Of course, as Joystiq notes, you could always try the DIY alternative, the Pedal Metal. Now, if you answered yes to the first two questions, well, you're on the wrong website. • Analyst: World Tour demand still high, supplies still down

    by

Cowen Group analyst Doug Creutz knows the public and, according to him, they want Guitar Hero: World Tour. Even though the guitar bundle for the game has been discounted like crazy over the last week (and selling just as crazy, we assume), he says that most folks are looking for the full band kit, which is difficult to find on store shelves."Supply of the full band kit version at all retail locations was very tight, with the title selling out quickly," Creutz said, even pointing to online resellers who continue to resell the full band kit SKU for ridiculous sums of money. "This picture of high demand and tight supply remains consistent with our previous channel checks."If these supplies were higher, Activision would be making a lot more money off the title. As it is, however, the company must mostly rely on sales of the game itself and the other guitar bundle SKU.%Gallery-23491%

Guitar Hero games have been going on sale a lot recently. It makes sense to mark down something so high-profile to attract holiday shoppers -- and we really don't mind getting a break on something as ridiculously expensive as the plastic-instrument games. The latest deal comes from Amazon, who has kicked off their "15 Days, 15 Deals" promotion with temporary price drops on Guitar Hero: World Tour guitar bundles. For $70, you get the game and one of those bizarre new guitars with the touch pad. It's a nice deal for people not interested in the complete band kit -- or for people trying to cobble the band kit together over time.%Gallery-23491%

  • How would you change Guitar Hero: World Tour?

Interestingly enough, a lot of the gripes you readers had with the original Rock Band were addressed by Activision in the rivaling Guitar Hero: World Tour (cymbals, anyone?), but we're pretty sure the picky ones out there still have something to complain about. And seriously, when dropping upwards of $180 to $190 for the full-on band kit, you absolutely have a right to nitpick. Now that you've hopefully rocked through a few set lists, how are you enjoying things? Are the revamped / new instruments to your liking? Are the sensors accurate enough? Do you wish there was a freestyle mode in order to give real drummers free reign over what beats they play? Is your equipment holding up under the intense pressure of rockin' it all night long? Grab a mic and spit your feelings (in rhyme or prose, whatever) below.

  • GameStop repeats itself: Wii shortages likely

Yes, we posted about this before, but as the giant boulder that is the holiday season ominously thunders towards us, we may as well say it again: GameStop will probably have some major Wii shortages in the near future.Chief financial officer David Carlson admitted in a conference call that the hardware "may be well out of stock by the holiday season," echoing another executive's recent claim that the 'Stop's inventory would be empty by the first week of December. He added that both Wii Fit and Guitar Hero: World Tour were "in very, very short supply" and "out of stock in many cases" respectively.Obviously, plenty of other places sell Wiis, but if a major name like GameStop is running out of the things, you can bet they won't be alone. Unless you want to end up like Johnny and Orlando up there, get your skates on.%Gallery-24459%
