Tree of Savior's latest English dev blog features some interesting gameplay nuggets, chief among them the binding/trading mechanics and the game's map system. Lead developer Hakkyu Kim says that all in-game items are freely tradeable, which differentiates ToS from many of its bind-on-equip or bind-on-pickup contemporaries. There is a catch, though, and it is that an item's Potential stat will decrease by one whenever it's traded. The map system generally shows the location of your party members but not other players. However, Scouts can "select a spot on the map to find out which players or enemies are there and share this info with party members." There's more to this week's dev blog, so click through the links below to give it a full read.

  • Tree of Savior delays closed beta, talks classes

Classes are the hot topic for this week's Tree of Savior community Q&A, with many of the questions concerning the different roles that players will assume in the upcoming title. The Q&A was coy on a few specifics, such as which class only has five skills, but was more open on other topics. The Alchemist was singled out as a class that synergizes well with crafting, the Wugushi was noted as a class with a strong poison bent, the Pardoner was shown to be a scroll-producing Cleric, and the Peltasta was revealed as a sword-and-shield fighter. For those hoping to get some beta action in this summer, we have bad news: It's been delayed. "We focused on the development so that we can launch CBT within this year's summer, but more time was needed than we had expected on the overall balancing of the game so we think CBT will be delayed a bit," the devs wrote.

The latest Tree of Savior dev blog touches on a few of the game's 80-odd classes including the Linker, the Psychokino, the Sadhu, and the Necromancer. You can probably guess what's involved with that last one, but the previous three seem pretty unique. The Sadhu uses "out-of-body" skills while the Psychokino employes telekinesis. The Linker chains mobs together so that they'll "receive damages or debuffs simultaneously," according to blog author and developer Hakkyu Kim. There are bits and bobs about Tree of Savior's non-combat classes, too, as well as info about the game's music and a class-focused video. Click past the cut to give it a look!

MMO Culture has an illuminating post up regarding Tree of Savior's combat system, sharing details about how fights will go when this attractive title gets in our hot little hands. Combat won't be mere tab-target-and-hotkey drudgery. Melee fighters will need to get within range in order for their attacks to work, spells use targeted zones to be effective, and ranged attacks are always pointed at the nearest enemy by default. Tree of Savior will also have a robust chat system that will save and organize private messages, even when players are offline.

At this year's G* Game Expo, in addition to the earlier sexy Blade & Soul gameplay video, it seems that the original creator of Ragnarok Online is working on a new MMO project that he describes as "in the same vein" as Ragnarok. Gamasutra is reporting that Hakkyu Kim, RO's creator, is working on two new MMOs. One a more basic MMO that features the control of a single character, and another MMO that is done in the 2D sprites/3D backgrounds style of RO, except with a focus on action. While neither of these games will be a new Ragnarok, as Gravity Interactive holds the license to the Ragnarok series, it's good to see Kim returning to his roots after his work on Granado Espada, more commonly known as Sword of the New World in the US.
